Up for sale is my 1986 Toyota Corolla AE86 Levin.

VIN number is AE865073479. This is a standard VIN in Japan, but not in the United States. However, there will be no trouble titling her.

I had it imported into the States last year when I separated from the Navy, and now it's time for me to move to another country. Time to let my baby go.

The car is almost fully restored. The only part left to complete is the exterior. A new coat of paint is not necessary, but will complete the look, as there are a few minor scrapes and a dings.

Engine is completely revitalized. The engine itself is from an AE-92, and has higher compression. This means it requires super unleaded fuel (91 octane or above). There is an AFC fuel computer included, which is already installed.

Again, the engine is good to go. No leaks whatsoever. She also has a new water pump and new belts.

Other mechanicals: She has new Megan coil-overs. These are not very aggressive, and are in fact comfortable at their softest settings on the street. You can dial the dampening up to be more aggressive if you decide to track or autocross her. The main reason I installed these is because the originals were never replaced and were in bad shape, and I figured it best to just install some coil-overs.

There is no rust anywhere on this car, except for some surface rust on the windshield wipers. Easily fixed, just sand the rust off and put on some black paint and you're good to go.

The car also has a Nardi steering wheel, which is signed.

New Apexi exhaust. Low exhaust note, and is quite nice to hear in the high revs.

She has a Japanese cassette radio. Quite honestly, this is useless in the states since the FM station only goes up to about 89.9, but it just adds to the JDM factor if you're into that.

The interior is fully complete. Inside is very clean: You will be very hard pressed to find an interior this clean and complete on an '86 in the states. This includes the privacy cover in the hatch area. There is some minor scraping on the ash tray.

Comes with a spare tire.

Current tires are Potenzas. Lots of life left in them.

Current mileage is about 189,000 kilometers. That translates to about 117,000 miles. Keep in mind that mileage on the engine is lower, but I do not know actual mileage on the engine, only the body.

She's amazing to drive. Revs freely up to the redline and never quits. After the warm-up cycle, she idles steady at 8-900 RPM. Brakes are solid, but would need upgrading if you want to do anything besides cruise around with her.

Car is fully legal, both federally and by the state. If you have questions, I can direct you to the man who helped me import the Levin.

This is your chance to own a very rare car in the States. A clean, right hand drive, JDM Levin is hard to find here, and I personally only know of one other person in the Mountain states that owns a similar one.

DEFECTS:

Here are the following defects:

A few scratches and light dings. There is one noticeable ding on the driver's side front wheel well.  Paint is in good condition, just a couple minor scrapes. Rear spoiler is faded and is attached, but needs new bolts or a new spoiler altogether in order to make it like-new. When you open the trunk, you do not want to grab it by the spoiler; if you do, you may accidentally pull it off, though reattaching it is simple enough.

The hatch needs new air dampeners. The current ones are old and I never got around to replacing them; however, the dampeners are cheap and will be easy to install. Just keep in mind that you will need to hold the hatch open by hand until you do so.

Interior is nearly flawless. There is a bit of a water stain on the sunroof ceiling cloth cover. Sunroof does not leak anymore since it has a new seal.

No power-steering or AC. Lack of power-steering is negligible for this car, you can turn it easily when rolling and it is not hard at all to turn it from a stand-still. In my mind, these are not defects, but if you do live in a hot state you may want to install AC or keep the windows rolled down.

Wheels are old and has some scrapes, but should be able to be repaired.

Starting bid at $11,500. Buy it now for 15!

As for shipping, I can help you arrange that. Keep in mind that shipping costs vary. To give you an example, through a quick google search I found that shipping from Colorado to Florida would cost about a thousand dollars fully insured.

All of the Bond cars of 'No Time To Die' (caution for spoilers)

Thu, Sep 30 2021

Note: The following overview of the cars in No Time To Die contains spoilers. Read at your own risk, or come back after seeing the film to make sure you caught everything.   No Time To Die picks up right around where Spectre leaves us. James Bond (Daniel Craig) and Madeleine Swann (Lea Seydoux) are driving along in Bond’s restored and iconic DB5 in Matera, Italy. Things donÂ’t stay all that cheery for long in picturesque Matera, though. As is tradition in Bond films, the first car chase hits us with an explosion of action in what's a super-long opening scene. Fourth-gen Maserati Quattroporte: The baddies in the beginning are driving a Maserati and chasing after Bond in the DB5. Specifically, theyÂ’re in a fourth-gen Quattroporte, which feels right for a chase scene in Italy. Its squared-off looks are mean enough, and its Italian growl is a good background soundtrack to the DB5Â’s inline-six. In addition to the Quattroporte, the chase scene in Matera is home to a couple of the best stunts of the entire movie, including the arch jump done with a Triumph motorcycle seen in trailers — Matera is extremely hilly. Eventually, Bond and Swann find themselves in the DB5 again together, which is where the famous gatling gun scene from the trailer commences, but not before the bulletproof windows and body of the DB5 are thoroughly tested. RIP to the first-gen Range Rover Classics and Jaguar XFs that joined the Maserati in pursuit of Bond (here's a list of other Bond cars over the years). As the DB5 escape scene concludes, we catch a glimpse of what appears to be a Ferrari from the 1970s. However, the view was far enough away that weÂ’ll need a second look to be sure of the exact model. Land Rover Series III: Next time we see Bond, heÂ’s fishing in Jamaica and driving around a blue Land Rover Series III. ItÂ’s yet another of the many Land Rover products featured throughout the film, and unlike most of BondÂ’s Aston Martins, this one doesnÂ’t seem to have any unique features. The other intriguing vehicle out of Jamaica? An old Chevrolet Bel-Air expertly and effectively piloted by Bond newcomer, Ana de Armas. Next up, we get a few shots of the new and still-not-for-sale Aston Martin Valhalla mid-engine supercar (also seen in trailers). BondÂ’s old boss M is in the scene which appears to have been shot in some secret wind tunnel of sorts. Much to our dismay, nobody ends up driving the Valhalla in the film. Could it be a teaser for what the next 007Â’s car is?

Toyota Hilux successor spotted

Mon, 15 Sep 2014

The midsize truck segment is suddenly seemingly exploding with new vehicles worldwide, even here in North America. Not only will the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon be available very soon, Toyota is already testing a replacement for its aging Tacoma and Honda has promised a Ridgeline replacement within the next 18 months. Also, the recently shown Nissan Navara is said to portend the future of our Frontier. Here's some more fresh evidence from Europe of this pickup boom with the next generation of its venerable Hilux in testing.
Thanks to Top Gear and sometimes the evening news, the Hilux has built a reputation of being able to go just about anywhere. According to out spy shooter, this particular pickup was spotted during hot weather testing in southern Europe. Interestingly, a Volkswagen Amarok was along for the ride as a benchmark. Because the VW tends to offer a bit more comfort than the generally utilitarian Hilux, this could indicate Toyota is considering taking the new truck in a slightly comfier, more refined direction.
Compared to the current model, this camouflaged tester sports a narrower front grille and headlights. The hood scoop is also absent here. The lower air dam also receives a more horizontal look, but the more vertical fog light housings provide some contrast. The crazy camouflage pattern makes things hard to discern at the rear, but the taillights appear to be more slender than they on the current model. Unfortunately, mechanical details about the new truck remain a mystery at the moment, but enjoy these spy shots as a preview of one more upcoming pickup.

eBay find of the day: Ed Begley's Toyota RAV4 EV

Fri, Jun 6 2014

You might know Ed Begley, Jr. from his Emmy-nominated role on St. Elsewhere or as one of the dead drummers in This Is Spinal Tap, his appearances on Arrested Development, Six Feet Under, and Battlestar Galactica, his reality show Living With Ed or from his years as an environmental activist (or, better yet, from previous coverage of him on AutoblogGreen). Ed Begley, Jr. has been advocating on behalf of our planet for several decades now, and the man walks the walk, too. He has done loads of work with environmental organizations. He's got his own line of environmentally friendly cleaning products. Begley is even in a long-standing rivalry with his friend Bill Nye (yes, The Science Guy) to have the lowest carbon footprint. Since 2002, he's been driving the drive as well. That's when he purchased a Toyota RAV4 EV, which is now up for auction on eBay. This car has 119,000 miles on it, but it had its battery replaced in early 2011, and it should have another seven years or so left in it. It's white with a charcoal interior, and has a little bit of cosmetic wear and tear, the normal sort of stuff for a vehicle with over 100,000 miles on it. It was in one accident back in 2003, but doesn't show any other issues. All service history is available from the dealer that sold it in the first place and maintained it since. Additionally, this RAV4 EV comes with a White Clean Air Decal, which allows the driver use of the HOV lane in California. Mr. Begley will even autograph the inside of the hood if you want him to, but it's doubtful the car comes with a Cinco-Fone. The buyer will also get to meet Begley is person and get some photos. Back in 2002, the car sold for $42,000. The current bid is $4,650 with six days to go, and the reserve has not yet been met. Check out the auction for more details.
