The 2008 Toyota Corolla comes in three different models: the base CE, sporty S, and better equipped LE. Each can be equipped with either a five-speed manual transmission or four-speed automatic. The 126-horsepower, 1.8L four-cylinder engine that powers all Corollas has variable valve timing with intelligence, which helps give it good response through the rev range without hampering fuel efficiency. With the manual transmission, the Corolla can accelerate from zero to 60 mph in just under nine seconds, according to Toyota, yet it achieves EPA fuel economy ratings of 28 mpg city, 35 mpg highway. The Corolla has a roomy interior and comfortable ride, yet a stiff structure and variable-assist rack-and-pinion steering give it a nimble feel. The back seat is split 60/40 and folds forward to expand the 13.6-cubic-foot trunk.Side-bolster front-seat air bags and full-length curtain air bags are available as an option across the line, as are anti-lock brakes, while electronic stability control is available only on LE and S models with the optional automatic transmission. Models equipped with the stability control system and anti-lock brakes also get brake assist, which helps apply full brake force in emergency braking.Standard equipment on the base CE model includes air conditioning, tilt steering, a height-adjustable driver's seat, a trunk lamp, power mirrors, and a CD sound system with four speakers. The S model adds a sportier look, with smoked headlamp lenses, integrated front fog lamps, under-body spoilers, rocker panel extensions, and rear mudguards, and it also upgrades to power locks, map lights, and a six-speaker sound system. The LE doesn't get all the sporty appearance cues of the S but instead has remote keyless entry, power windows, and woodgrain trim. Other major options include a power moonroof, alloy wheels, and an eight-speaker JBL sound system with six-disc changer.

Toyota launches new Noah, Voxy minivans in Japan [w/videos]

Wed, 22 Jan 2014

We know the feeling: you've got what seems like your whole bloodline to transport, and maybe not quite two of every living kind, but a household pet or two. So you're going to need something big to fit them all. Something like a Toyota Sienna ought to do the trick. But if you live on an Asian island that, we're sorry to say, has been known to flood in what can only be referred to as an Act of God but whose vehicles fall short of such biblical proportions, at least you can get one with a suitably biblical name. (And an awesome one at that, if this writer may say so.)
That would be Noah, the name Toyota gives to its JDM minivan. It's also known as the Voxy, and Toyota has just revealed new versions of both. Previewed in concept form at the recent Tokyo Motor Show, the production Noah and Voxy have been completely redesigned. The boxy form allows for as many as eight seats and a low, flat-folding cargo floor to accommodate your whole clan and all the stuff you could buy from Uniqlo and Muji with the roomiest interior in its class.
Toyota is offering both with a variety of gasoline and hybrid powertrain configurations driving the front wheels or all four through a continuously variable transmission in a range of trim levels starting from 2.18 million yen (equivalent to $20,952 at today's rates) to 3.4 million yen ($32,694). The Voxy is sold through Toyota's network of Netz dealerships across Japan, and the Noah through its parallel Corolla dealers. Along with the pair of video clips and the high-res image galleries top and bottom, there are plenty of details in the press release below, where you can read more about the flexible seating arrangements and all the latest tech. Just don't expect to be reading dimensions measured in cubits and construction from gopher wood.

Toyota SEMA concepts promote active lifestyles, rallying [w/video]

Thu, 31 Oct 2013

Toyota has six vehicles that it's bringing to the Specialty
Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show next week, all of which were developed by and for people who live active lifstyles. Four of them are the result of the Toyota Dream Build Challenge, which tasked a team of athletes and vehicle customization shops to build Toyota sedans, pickup trucks and sport utility vehicles in seven weeks that would enhance performance in their respective sports.
We'll lead off with the CamRally Camry, developed by NASCAR driver Parker Kligerman, Kyle Busch Motorsports and Mooresville, NC shop Detroit Speed, Inc. for the Dream Build Challenge, because it appeals to us gearheads (sure, call us one-sided). It was totally transformed into a rally vehicle, and it has to be the most badass Camry we can remember seeing. The sedan is always a bit flaccid-looking in stock form, but the CamRally's wide body and other exterior upgrades and the turbocharger make us forget about that, as do its stripped, painted interior and Sparco race seat.

2013 Toyota Tacoma TRD Sport

Tue, 16 Apr 2013

"Oh yeah, Toyota still makes the Tacoma." Admit it, that's what you just said to yourself. It's a perfectly natural reaction, but the Tacoma has been quietly anchoring its segment for years, outselling every other compact pickup without making too much of a fuss. Toyota hasn't neglected the Tacoma - it was updated in 2012 with a revised nose and interior as the most noteable changes.
In a world awash with high-value fullsize pickups all vying for your attention, the Tacoma still charms more than a few buyers out of their cash. I hooked a Tacoma for a week to see whether it still has enough to recommend it.
