Up for auction is a pristine 2012 Toyota Camry SE Limited in a beautiful, high gloss black with a blue sparkle in it. This car is loaded with all the standard amenities too numerous to mention but also includes paddle shifters (used them once), dual level heated seats (used them all the time), HID headlamps, mirror mounted turn indicators, Navigation, back up camera, XM Radio, Entune system with bluetooth (never used it), keyless entry, keyless start button and tinted windows that we had installed. There is 37,200 absolute trouble free miles on the car and are only selling it because we just bought a 2013 Lexus ES350. We are non smokers in our early 60’s, never abused or altered the car in any way and no small children in the back seat making a mess. The car was always garaged and never wrecked; there was never any paint work and no scrapes or dents of any sort and is perfectly original. The car was driven mainly road miles from Ohio to our place in the Florida Keys and always averaged high 30’s for excellent gas mileage. There are a few minor stone chips but that’s it. The car was waxed and detailed twice a year, the oil (Mobil 1) and filter was changed every 5000 miles and the tires were also rotated at that time. The tires have at least 50% tread and are smooth with no cupping or noise from alignment issues. All 4 wheels are in perfect condition with no scars on the rims. A recent Toyota dealership maintenance update was done for a navigation update and some other dealer update stuff (?) and everything is up to snuff. This is a clean, lightly used automobile in very good condition and will give many more trouble free miles ahead. The NADA book lists the car retail for $22,900.00 but does not include many of the additional items listed above for the Limited, I think it just lists the standard SE, but...

Happy bidding!

Cheers

177k Toyota Camry Hybrids being recalled for brake issue

Mon, 11 Aug 2014

It looks like Consumer Reports might be getting part of what it wants regarding the Toyota Camry Hybrid and its braking system. Toyota is issuing what it calls a limited service campaign, rather than a full recall, covering about 177,500 of the hybrid sedans from the 2007 through 2011 model years because of an issue with the cars' brake fluid reservoirs.
The models have a filter separating two chambers of the brake fluid reservoir, and the part can get clogged over time. If this happens, the fluid level in one of the chambers can get too low and eventually cause the power assist to fail. There are multiple warning lights on the dashboard that illuminate over time if the filter gets obstructed, though. The company is replacing the entire reservoir with an improved unit, and the fix takes about two hours to perform.
Consumer Reports recently began asking for a recall on these models for the potentially clogged filters. The magazine also reported a second issue with the ABS brake actuator that could lead to a difficult to depress brake, but Toyota has increased the warranty on the part to 10 years or 150,000 miles.

Toyota FCV puts hydrogen fuel cell twist on ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

Fri, Aug 22 2014

You've probably seen your fair share of Ice Bucket Challenge videos online this week, which are meant to raise money to fight amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), often called "Lou Gehrig's Disease." Hopefully, you've seen ours. We've watched a lot of these videos, but haven't seen one that makes an alt-fuel point quite like a new video from Toyota. Julie Hamp, the CCO of Toyota North America, lost a sister-in-law to ALS last year, so for her the cause is personal. Instead of just dumping icy-cold water on her head, Hamp uses water from the FCV fuel cell vehicle parked next to her. Because, of course, a hydrogen fuel cell car emits nothing but water vapor. Toyota didn't run a lot of hydrogen through the car to collect water, it just got enough to top off the ice bucket. Using the water emissions from a hydrogen vehicle in a creative way is not a new trick. Two years ago, the California Fuel Cell Partnership made the point that you can drink the emissions (just like Mercedes-Benz did earlier this year), but admitted that "fuel cells produce about the same amount of water as gasoline vehicle – about 1/3 cup for a full day of driving." Still, for a good cause, we'll accept the mix of tap water and "emissions." Check out the video below, if you haven't had enough already. This content is hosted by a third party. Raising A White Flag To The Competition
We all benefit from highly competitive battles. In the automotive sector, few campaigns are so closely fought as the decades-long struggle for supremacy in the fullsize half-ton pickup truck segment. The Ford F-150 has dominated for ages, but Chevrolet, Ram and GMC have been closing the gap with freshly redesigned trucks that are rocking the industry.
Today's half-ton trucks are better than they've ever been, and we have fierce competition to thank for that.
