For Sale is a 1997 Toyota Avalon.  I am the third owner.  I purchased it in 2004 and bought it from a guy who had bought it from his sister.  It has more than 205,000 miles and counting (it is still a daily driver).  It starts with zero issue and has been frequently driven from Chicago to Indianapolis or St. Louis with no issues or reservations about the car making the trip.  I recently replaced the rear 2 tires and the front 2 have only 10,000 miles on them.  The car has been routinely taken in for service (i.e. oil change) and has 1 year old brakes and steering.  I put in a new stereo, which is nice.  It allows you to play music through a memory stick, android and/or iphone.  There are 2 usb connections (1 in dash and 1 in the glove box) and 1 aux jack for a 3.5mm input connection.

There is an issue with the exhaust.  A new "down pipe" is needed.  In layman's terms, at idle, the car is a little loud, on the interstate, you can't tell that there is any problem at all.  If I was going to keep the car, I would have it fixed, but I am not going to keep the car.
I am selling this car because I am old enough to have a nicer car.  As much as I love this vehicle, I drive too many people around for work to shuttle them around in a 15 year old car.  It just runs, and I love it for that, but it is time.  I have absolute confidence that you can drive this car wherever.  Everything works, air conditioning, power everything, heat, steering...  No warning lights are on.

I can provide more pictures if you would like.  I live in the Logan Square area of Chicago (California and Diversey).  Please let me know if you have any questions.  The car is sold as is and I will help you arrange shipping, but I do not have the resources or network to provide shipping.  I am a 15 minute L train ride from Chicago's O'Hare airport and a 45 minute train ride from Midway airport.  Andy 773.234.5265

2013 Toyota Tacoma TRD Sport

Tue, 16 Apr 2013

"Oh yeah, Toyota still makes the Tacoma." Admit it, that's what you just said to yourself. It's a perfectly natural reaction, but the Tacoma has been quietly anchoring its segment for years, outselling every other compact pickup without making too much of a fuss. Toyota hasn't neglected the Tacoma - it was updated in 2012 with a revised nose and interior as the most noteable changes.
In a world awash with high-value fullsize pickups all vying for your attention, the Tacoma still charms more than a few buyers out of their cash. I hooked a Tacoma for a week to see whether it still has enough to recommend it.

Toyota to buck engine downsizing trend, may go larger and turbo-free

Mon, 14 Oct 2013

Turbocharging isn't really Toyota's specialty, and the Japanese automaker isn't being shy about acknowledging it. Koei Saga, a senior managing officer in charge of drivetrain research and development, says that eschewing turbos and increasing displacement of engines using the Atkinson cycle can produce better power gains without sacrificing fuel economy, Automotive News reports.
Toyota is investing heavily in larger-displacement Atkinson-cycle engines in addition to turbocharged engines, but Saga doesn't think the automaker will use turbocharging across many product lines. He apparently remains unconvinced that the technology "makes the world better."
In Toyota's eyes then, Atkinson cycle engines do make the world better, and here's how. Their pistons complete four processes - intake, compression, power and exhaust - in one revolution of the crankshaft, and the power stroke is longer than the compression stroke. Traditional Otto cycle engines require two crankshaft revolutions to accomplish those same four operations and have equal-length compression and power strokes. Atkinson cycle engines are more efficient, but less power dense, though increasing displacement can offset that shortfall.

Toyota Prius + gets refresh in UK, is it coming here?

Fri, 10 Oct 2014

Toyota has unveiled a mid-cycle refresh of its seven-passenger, UK-market Prius +, known here in the US as the five-passenger Prius V. The revised hybrid MPV now boasts looks inspired by Toyota's more aggressive compact stylings as seen on its new Yaris and Aygo - particularly in the redone front fascia.
The new LED headlights are the most obvious change, sporting a sharper style, while the vertical slats that bookend front fascia are much larger and deeper, and are now home to LED running lights. The lower grille is also newly enlarged and trimmed in black plastic. Changes out back are far less noticeable, with the biggest tweak being a new diffuser that's been integrated into the rear bumper.
The interior gets a light freshening, too, with fresh trimmings around the switchgear, as well as a new 4.2-inch TFT display in the center mounted instrument cluster. The latter includes a new "Eco Judge" function designed to help owners drive more efficiently through a point-based reward system.
