2.2RE AUTOMATIC DRIVETRAIN 4X4 WITH SR5 OPTION PACKAGE
ONE FAMILY OWNERSHIP FROM DECEMBER 1985-DECEMBER 2010
SOLD NEW 12.17.1985 IN VANCOUVER BC CANADA TO MARIN COUNTY DOCTOR FOR BC VACATION HOME
100% ORIGINAL BODY, PAINT, INTERIOR, DRIVETRAIN A TRUE SURVIVOR
TRUELY AN EXCEPTIONAL ORIGINAL UNRESTORED UNMODIFIED EXAMPLE

BRIEF DETAIL OF CONDITION (please call or email with your questions or concerns):

Exterior: Overall paint and body are in superb original condition.  Original decals look perfect.  Body is 99% rustfree.
All body panels are original and accident-free.   Rear bumper shows a few flaws as does front bumper.
Interior: Also superb original condition.  The pictures should speak for themselves.  The removable rear fiberglass top has never been off the car.   The rear electric window has been acting up and working intermittently.  Carpets     look good but do show some wear.  Headliner and dash are excellent.   Driver seat has one small tear otherwise seats are excellent and original cushions feel like new.  The wife and daughter drove the 4Runner both small ladies thus the seats show little to no wear.
Mechanically: The 2.2RE drivetrain is quite sturdy and with 106K original miles is just breaking in.   The 4Runner has not been driven much over the last 5 years.   Recently (50 miles ago) I replaced the battery, changed Oil & filters and installed four new Yokohama Geolandar A/T-S 235/75-15".
The 4Runner's suspension is completely original from front to back and will need to be rebuilt over time.  I would also suggest full tune-up and all fluids flushed.   The brakes look fine and as mentioned tires are new.

IN 1984 I BOUGHT A 4RUNNER BRAND NEW AND RECENTLY SEARCHED FOR AN UNRESTORED UNMODIFIED PRISTINE EXAMPLE THAT I COULD KEEP AND UPDATE OVERTIME.   FINDING SUCH A CAR WAS A NEAR IMPOSSIBLE TASK AS I MUST HAVE LOOKED AT OVER 100 ON THE INTERNET AND 20 IN PERSON,   HOWEVER NONE MEASURED UP TO THE MEMORIES I HAD FROM 1984.   WHEN I FOUND THIS ONE I KNEW MY SEARCH WAS OVER.   I HAVE TAKEN IT THIS FAR THE NEW OWNER WILL NEED TO TAKE IT TO THE NEXT LEVEL.   VERY FEW 4RUNNERS CAN BE FOUND IN THIS CONDITION.  I AM SAD TO SELL IT BUT DUE TO RECENT LAND PURCHASE IN THE NAPA VALLEY I HAVE BEEN SLOWLY SELLING OFF SOME OF MY SPECIAL KEEPERS.  GOOD LUCK BIDDING.  PLEASE EMAIL WITH YOUR QUESTIONS, CONCERNS OR IF YOU ARE SERIOUS CONTACT ME FOR A POSSIBLE BUY IT NOW OPTION!

FYI This 4Runner Speedometer, being sold originally for Canadian Market, reads in Kilometer's.   The Speedo shows top speed of 180KM and presently reads 171,185KM (106,370 miles).

Please read the entire ad as this auction is being relisted due to NON PAYING bidder that did or could not read the listing clearly.

Most reliable cars and trucks of 2022

Tue, Nov 15 2022

Related: Least reliable cars and trucks of 2022   For years now, Consumer Reports has been one of the most prolific sources of vehicle reliability data around. The organization tests a number of vehicles each year and surveys its members on various automotive topics, including reliability. The results of its 2022 annual auto survey are in, and the list of most reliable vehicles has been revealed. Unsurprisingly, Toyota and Lexus dominated the list of most reliable vehicles, but BMW and Mini snuck into the top 10 as well. The list includes: Toyota Corolla Hybrid: 93 Lexus GX: 91 Mini Cooper: 89 Toyota Prius: 89 Mazda MX-5 Miata: 85 Lincoln Corsair: 82 Toyota Corolla: 81 Subaru Crosstrek: 80 BMW 3 Series: 80 Toyota Prius Prime: 77 In terms of the most reliable vehicle type, Consumer Reports says that sedans remain the best choice. Their average score is 58, which is notably better than SUVs’ average score of 51. Minivans and pickup trucks are lower, at 44 and 39, respectively. As Consumer Reports notes, many sedans are older models that have allowed their manufacturers to iron out the wrinkles, making them more reliable. Domestic automakers' SUVs and trucks performed better in the survey than their imported counterparts, with scores of 45 and 41, respectively. The study also showed that hybrids and plug-in hybrids are becoming more reliable, and have climbed the score ladder to the tops of their segments in many cases.  Consumer Reports says its study includes 17 trouble areas, including small stuff like creaks and rattles and much larger problems like drivetrain failures. The organization states that it weights each issue based on its severity to create its predicted reliability scores, with 100 being the best. A car must be in production for at least two model years to be considered for the list. Bibendum 2014: Former EU President says Toyota could lose 100,000 euros per hydrogen FCV sedan

Thu, Nov 13 2014

Pat Cox does not work for Toyota and we don't think he has any secret inside information. Still, he's the former President of the European Parliament and the current high level coordinator for TransEuropean Network, so when he says Toyota is likely going to lose between 50,000 and 100,000 euros ($66,000 and $133,000) on each of the hydrogen-powered FCV sedans it will sell next year, it's worth noting. That was just one highlight of Cox's presentation at the 2014 Michelin Challenge Bibendum in Chengdu, China today, which addressed the main problem of using more H2 in transportation: cost. The EU has a tremendous incentive to find an alternative to fossil fuels, since Europe today is 94 percent dependent on oil for its transportation sector and 84 percent of that 94 percent dependency is imported oil. The tab for that costs the EU a billion euros a day, Cox said, on top of the environmental costs. To encourage a shift away from petroleum, European Directive 2014/94 requires each member state to develop national policy frameworks for the market development of alternative fuels and their infrastructure. For the member states that choose to fulfill 2014/94 by developing a hydrogen market – and to be clear, Cox said, it's not an EU diktat that they do so, since a number of other alternatives are also allowed – the aim is to have things in place by the end of 2025. The plans don't even have to be submitted until the end of 2016. The long lead time is due to a quirk in a hydrogen economy. In hydrogen infrastructure, "the first-mover cost is not the first-mover advantage, but the firstmover disadvantage." – Pat Cox In deploying a hydrogen infrastructure, Cox said, "the first-mover cost is not the first-mover advantage, but the first-mover disadvantage, and high risk." That's why the EU and member states will financially support the early stages, but everyone agrees that "if this is to work, it will have to be ultimately and essentially a commercially viable and commercially driven infrastructure roll-out." Since 1986, European Union research programs have spent 550 million euros on hydrogen-related and fuel-cell-related research, including methods of hydrogen storage and distribution as well as improved fuel cells vehicles, Cox said. Expensive problems remain to be solved. At a conference in Berlin, Germany this past summer, Cox said, the unit cost of the refueling stations was identified as the main problem.

Toyota FCV puts hydrogen fuel cell twist on ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

Fri, Aug 22 2014

You've probably seen your fair share of Ice Bucket Challenge videos online this week, which are meant to raise money to fight amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), often called "Lou Gehrig's Disease." Hopefully, you've seen ours. We've watched a lot of these videos, but haven't seen one that makes an alt-fuel point quite like a new video from Toyota. Julie Hamp, the CCO of Toyota North America, lost a sister-in-law to ALS last year, so for her the cause is personal. Instead of just dumping icy-cold water on her head, Hamp uses water from the FCV fuel cell vehicle parked next to her. Because, of course, a hydrogen fuel cell car emits nothing but water vapor. Toyota didn't run a lot of hydrogen through the car to collect water, it just got enough to top off the ice bucket. Using the water emissions from a hydrogen vehicle in a creative way is not a new trick. Two years ago, the California Fuel Cell Partnership made the point that you can drink the emissions (just like Mercedes-Benz did earlier this year), but admitted that "fuel cells produce about the same amount of water as gasoline vehicle – about 1/3 cup for a full day of driving." Still, for a good cause, we'll accept the mix of tap water and "emissions." Check out the video below, if you haven't had enough already. This content is hosted by a third party.
