This rare Toyota Trekker is one of 1500 built as collaboration between Winnebago and Toyota (I listed it under 4 Runner since eBay didn’t have a Trekker category and 1980 because eBay won’t take my VIN as a 1981). It was the forerunner to the Toyota 4Runner. From the cab back is all fiberglass, thus no rust. There is seating for two in the back.

I am the second owner of this vehicle. I bought it in 1984 with 16,961 miles on it. It now has 209,826 miles. I have babied it for the 30 years I have had it. I have always taken the approach that I would keep it forever when having work done on it.   Besides oil changes, I made a rule to have it worked on at dealers when possible. I have always used OME parts when they were available, including Toyota oil and air filters (and the new front fenders, which are now unavailable).  In 30 years it has only failed to start twice. For a 33 year vehicle with 200k miles it is in amazing shape.  It has many upgrades including a new radio (Retro Sound), driver’s seat (Recaro), back seat (Baja), new upholstery and headliner. I had the exhaust piping and muffler system replaced two summers ago. The engine was rebuilt in 2001 at 183,171 miles. The front seats have retractable shoulder and lap belts. The back seat has lap belts and headrests for two small people. It has good tires with plenty of tread left on them. BF Goodrich All Terrain T/A 30x9.50 R15LT. It has Smitty Built bumpers and rocker bars. It has a 2” receiver hitch and 7 pin plug socket for towing. It’s not much of a tow vehicle and I’ve only really used the hitch for a bike rack! It has a roof rack that comes with it.

In 2010 I had a cheap paint job which is not holding up very well. I did put new OME front fenders on at that time so there is very little rust on the vehicle. It has lived out west so it hasn’t seen any salt but has endured so amazing winters.

I have most of the original paperwork, owner’s manual, repair manual and some old flyers for the Trekker.

This has been my only vehicle for the past 30 years! I know it inside and out and have taken very good care of it. I’ve never done serious 4 wheeling with it, only dirt roads and Montana winters. It’s been all over the US so a lot of the miles are highway.  It is not perfect but it’s one of the nicer Trekkers still on the road. It is now in Bozeman Montana inside a storage facility but it has not been garaged its whole life. I highly recommend coming to Bozeman to pick it up and do some fishing or camping along the way. Summer will be here in a month or two!

I am the second owner of this vehicle and bought it in 1984 from the dealer in Townsend Montana. I would prefer a cash deal but am open to other possibilities. It is certainly drivable but I would trailer it because of the front axle seals. Remember it is in Bozeman Montana.

I used it as my daily driver until November 2013 when I garaged it. I thought I would do a show quality restoration and then my children turned into teenagers! I want them driving something with airbags! Thanks for looking and please contact me with any questions.

Solid-state batteries: Why Toyota's plans could be a game-changer for EVs

Tue, Jul 25 2017

Word out of Japan today is that Toyota is working on launching a new solid-state battery for electric vehicles that will put it solidly in the EV game by 2022. Which leads to a simple question: What is a solid-state battery, and why does it matter? Back in February, John Goodenough observed, "Cost, safety, energy density, rates of charge and discharge and cycle life are critical for battery-driven cars to be more widely adopted." And risking a bad pun on his surname, he seemed to be implying that all of those characteristics weren't currently good enough in autos using lithium-ion batteries. This comment is relevant because Goodenough, professor at the Cockrell School of Engineering at the University of Texas at Austin - it so happens, he turns 95 today - is the co-inventor of the lithium-ion battery, the type of battery that is pretty much the mainstay of current electric vehicles. And he and a research fellow at U of T were announcing they'd developed a solid-state battery, one that has improved energy density (which means a car so equipped can drive further) and can be recharged more quickly and more often (a.k.a., "long cycle life") than a lithium-ion battery. (Did you ever notice that with time your iPhone keeps less of a charge than it did back when it was shiny and new? That's because it has a limited cycle life. Which is one thing when you're talking about a phone. And something else entirely when it involves a whole car.) What's more, there is reduced mass for a solid-state battery. And there isn't the same safety concern that exists with li-ion batteries vis-a- vis conflagration (which is why at airplane boarding gates they say they'll check your carryon as long as you remove all lithium-ion batteries). Lithium-ion batteries may be far more advanced than the lead-acid batteries that are under the hood of essentially every car that wasn't built in Fremont, Calif., but as is the case with those heavy black rectangles, li-ion batteries contain a liquid. In the lithium-ion battery, the liquid, the electrolyte, moves the lithium ions from the negative to the positive side (anode to cathode) of the battery. In a solid-state design, there is no liquid sloshing around, which also means that there's no liquid that would freeze at low operating temperatures. What Toyota is using for its solid-state battery is still unknown, as is the case for the solid-state batteries that Hyundai is reportedly working on for its EVs.

Toyo Tires will bring another wild catalog of rides to SEMA

Sun, Oct 27 2019

Toyo Tires carts all kinds of toys to SEMA every year, the rubber company planning another 30 or so automotive exhibits this year in two locations. One of them, the Baja 911, comes with a pedigree not usually associated with the bewildering wares hawked at the Las Vegas show. TJ Russell was once lead fabricator for Singer Vehicle Design, now he's the head of Russell Built Fabrication in Sun Valley, CA. Sticking with the marque he knows well, Russell started with a 1991 Porsche Carrera 4 cabriolet, fitted the interior with a full roll cage, then built a hardtop around it to design a desert runner channeling the old Rothmans safari 911s. Underneath that bodywork lives a box-plate trailing arm suspension with 12 inches of travel, working 15-inch Fifteen52 FIA-approved Gravel wheels and 30-inch Toyo Open Country A/T II tires. Power comes from a purpose-built 3.8-liter air-cooled flat-six with about 350 horsepower — 100 hp more than stock — in a car that weighs 400 pounds less than the original. Oh, and as documented on Instagram with the tagline "All race outside, all business inside," the interior's full of quilted, cross-stitched leather, and Toyo says Russell's going to do a low-volume run of the Baja 911 starting early next year. ruffian-ford-mustang-sema-01 View 10 Photos Chris Ashton built a 1970 Ford Mustang Fastback called the Ruffian Mustang, inspired by the Trans Am Racing Series. The exterior changes are more subtle than one might think – the chin spoiler, hood scoop, and side mirrors are barely exaggerated versions of those on the original car, the intake vents astride the front lights and the steel bumpers teleported from 1970. Changes outside include de-chromed and flush-mounted glass, vented hood, front fenders that are dropped an inch, rear fender vents, dual side-exit pipes, and gargantuan fender flares over staggered Signature One wheels and Toyo Proxes 888 tires. The interior's fitted with a roll cage and race car workings. In spite of the Boss 427 badging, the engine's a 625-hp Chevrolet LS3 V8. button-built-ferrari-355-sema-01 View 13 Photos The Button Built Ferrari BB355TT picks up from last year's stanced BB328GTS widebody that gave many Internet denizens heart attacks. Laid up on a 1999 355 Berlinetta, the BB version appends a widebody kit designed Mitchell Button, rendered by Khyzyl Saleem and drenched in Azzuro la Plata, a color from Ferrari's Scagliette palette first used on a 1967 275GTB Le Mans racer.

2014 Toyota Corolla shows just enough to keep us interested

Tue, 21 May 2013

To date, the best idea we have of what the 2014 Toyota Corolla will look like is the shape and styling of the Furia Concept from this year's Detroit Auto Show. Obviously the compact car will turn down the wick a fair bit from that orange machine, and now we have one more scintilla of an idea of what the final product will look like.
Published today on Toyota's official Facebook page, the image above clearly shows the rear quarter of the 2014 Corolla S. Though the low angle is pretty wonky, we can make out that the shape of the taillight cluster is very similar to that of the Furia, albeit without the same LED treatment, A hint of a trunk-lid spoiler is also in evidence, and also follows the Furia's lead.
Toyota points out that the new Corolla will be shown in earnest on June 6. Expect to see the full version of the car by that date at the latest - online leaks have a tendancy to speed these things up.
