1993 4Runner. Runs fine.  I drive it every day back and forth to work (17 miles each way) and use it to go to town quite often, which is 20-40 miles each way depending on which town I go to.

I just had it serviced less than 2 weeks ago. Oil and filter, lube, etc.

Cold a/c, needs heater core. Heater is bypassed right now. Has rear a/c controls also.

It just hit 220,000 miles today on the way home from town. I drive it all the time. As I write this, it has 220,001 miles on it. With me continuing to drive it until sold, I would expect it to have an additional 500 or so miles on it soon. I just don't want someone to say I wasn't honest about the mileage. I do drive it. Why wouldn't I?
 Automatic trans
4wd works as it should. I engage it about once a week just to keep it all moving. I personally have never put it anywhere that actually needed 4 wheel drive, but it is nice to use when the roads freeze over.
 3.0 V6
SR5 V6, loaded for its day

Has cruise control but it won't engage.
 Power moonroof, works perfectly.
It has a tailgate with a power window that works just fine with the key and with the switch in the center console, just like normal.
Yakima Rack on top. Works great for kayaks, etc. Called a "Yak Rack" by many folks here.
Power windows and locks. All work fine except drivers door.
 Texas tag good until Feb.

I have the owners manual.
It has low compression in one cylinder. I cannot remember which one (I think #4) but I am confident it is the exhaust valve. Mechanic tested it at 50lbs on the bad one, but it is now a bit higher due to fogging the engine and cleaning most of the buildup on the valve. It is at roughly 75-80lbs on the low one now. Factory is 140. It does not smoke at all.
You can come see it and drive it. I have nothing to hide.

It is a 5 passenger, and I have 3 kids now and one coming in September, so wife is screaming for a mini-van. (goodbye man card...)

I have a video of it running. It took it with my iPhone, but I cannot figure out how to load it on here, and my email says it is too large to send. If someone can figure out how to send it, I will gladly do so. It runs well, and I would be very happy to show the video to anyone that wishes to see it. If you can come drive it, please do. I am confident you would be satisfied with it.

Some of the pictures look "wavy." I think that is due to the 100+ degree Texas heat and the fact that I took the pictures with an iPhone 3. The car is straight, not all wavy like a potato chip.

I have no way to ship it. Buyer is responsible for that part. It can be picked up as soon as funds are 100% free and clear. I have the clear title, of course.

Email with any questions. I will respond as soon as possible.

I will follow all of eBay's selling rules at all times. I would entertain a trade if eBay allows it. I just honestly do not know how that works.

If you look, you will notice I have a 100% positive feedback score, and I intend to keep it that way always. I will not lie nor hide anything about this 4Runner. If you ask, I will tell you the answer honestly. Period.

The most efficient gas or hybrid cars of 2024: Not the greenest, but still very green

Thu, Mar 14 2024

Not a single electric vehicle appears on the “greener choices” list assembled by the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE) in its annual compilation of the most environmentally friendly cars in the United States. But for potential car buyers seeking an efficient, fairly affordable gasoline or hybrid vehicle this year, the list of 12 cars, trucks and SUVs can help with decision making. Topping this yearÂ’s list was the gas/hybrid Honda Accord, priced at $33,990 with an estimated annual fuel cost of $982. Rank Make & Model Powertrain Vehicle Class Green Score MSRP Estimated Annual Fuel Cost* 1 Honda Accord Gas Hybrid Large Car 62 $33,990 $982 2 Kia Niro FE Gas Hybrid Compact SUV 61 $28,315 $885 3 Mitsubishi Mirage Gas Compact Car 59 $17,955 $1,189 4 Lexus ES 300h Gas Hybrid Midsize Car 59 $44,590 $1,073 5 Lexus NX 350h Gas Hybrid Midsize SUV 57 $43,465 $1,207 6 Ford Maverick Gas Hybrid Compact Pickup 55 $24,900 $1,297 7 Toyota Sienna Gas Hybrid Minivan 55 $39,080 $1,304 8 Mini Cooper Convertible Gas Subcompact Car 54 $35,700 $1,412 9 Toyota Highlander Gas Hybrid Large SUV 54 $40,720 $1,348 10 Kia Soul Gas Small Wagon 53 $21,565 $1,467 11 BMW Z4 sDrive30i Gas Two-Seater 50 $53,600 $1,626 12 Mercedes-Benz GLA250 Gas Hybrid Large Van 49 $43,000 $1,596 13 Volvo V90CC B6 Gas Hybrid Midsize Wagon 45 $59,800 $1,843 14 Ford Ranger Gas Standard Pickup 43 $32,670 $1,968 *ACEEE analysis using EIA data of the annual cost of driving 15,000 miles In making its evaluations, the ACEEE examines each 2024 model based on its cost to human health from air pollution associated with vehicle manufacturing and disposal, the production and distribution of fuel or electricity, and vehicle tailpipe emissions. The group also takes into account air pollution associated with EV battery manufacturing. The organization also ranks what it calls the “greenest” cars — it selected the Toyota Prius Prime SE plug-in hybrid is the greenest model of 2024. As well as the “Meanest.Â’Â’ or least efficient vehicle. At the top of that list this year was Mercedes-Benz AMG G63. The group says that the greener choices are those that are available nationwide “with among the lowest environmental impacts in each vehicle class but that didnÂ’t make the Greenest List.

Which car companies are creating new jobs in America?

Fri, Sep 22 2017

Since January, automakers have announced investments totaling $9.5 billion in U.S. plants, creating or retaining more than 12,000 jobs. Some of those companies have yet to announce just how many jobs will be created given their investments, with the location of many of those jobs still to be determined. Specifically, the 4,000-job Toyota-Mazda joint venture plant still hasn't announced its location, with numerous states jockeying for it. Hyundai has plans to invest $1 billion but has not announced a jobs number yet. And likewise Ford is investing $1.2 billion in Michigan without specifying a number of jobs. Volvo this week announced plans to add a second line to its factory under construction in South Carolina, spending another $500 million and adding 2,500 jobs to the 2,000 it was already trying to fill. Then Thursday, Daimler announced a $1 billion expansion to its facility in Tuscaloosa, Ala., to produce EV batteries and electric SUVs, a move that will add 600 jobs to its hiring this year. Above, we've created a handy pie chart showing you which companies have announced new jobs and how many there will be. How Toyota's 100-year textile history influenced FCV hydrogen fuel cell car

Thu, Sep 11 2014

Turns out, Toyota had a surprising ace in the hole when it came to building the new fuel tanks for the FCV hydrogen fuel cell car, which is coming next year. Well before Toyota became the Toyota Motor Company, it was the Toyota Industries Corporation and it made textile looms. This is important because the main structure of the hydrogen tank is wound carbon fiber. When Toyota set out to increase the strength of the tanks to hold hydrogen stored at 10,000 psi (up from 5,000 in the previous tanks), it was able to draw on its 100-year-old history as it designed its car of the future. "A lot of that textile experience came back when we did the tank wrapping." – Justin Ward "We have a lot of experience with textiles," Justin Ward told AutoblogGreen at the 21st World Congress on Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) in Detroit this week, "and a lot of that textile experience came back when we did the tank wrapping." On top of being able to hold the higher-pressure hydrogen, Toyota's first attempt to build its own hydrogen tank was six times faster than the industry standard, so it saved time and money as well as working better. The company will also be able to inspect its own tanks. Ward is the general manager of powertrain system control at the Toyota Technical Center and hydrogen vehicles are something he knows a lot about. The reason for the stronger, 10,000-psi tanks is because the 5,000-psi tanks only offered around 180-200 miles of range, even with four tanks in the early $129,000 FCHV Highlander hydrogen prototypes. The FCV only has two, but they will able to deliver the 300-mile range that customers told Toyota they wanted. Dropping the number of tanks not only obviously reduced the cost for the tanks themselves but also the number of valves and hoses and other components you need. Despite the benefits of higher compression, going much higher doesn't make sense. 10,000 psi is the "natural progression," Ward said, because "you start to bump up against compression inefficiencies." Think of an air compressor. When hydrogen is produced at a wastewater treatment plant or a reforming site, Ward said, is it at around ambient pressure (14 psi). That has to be raised, using compressors, all the way to 10,000 psi. "That takes energy," Ward said, "and every doubling of pressure adds another doubling of energy needed, so it starts to add up pretty fast if you go too high." Component specifications are also fine at 10,00 psi, but more difficult at higher levels.
