Recharge Wrap-up: Saleen renames its Tesla, Nissan announces "No Charge To Charge" in Atlanta

Tue, Nov 25 2014

Saleen has renamed its Tesla Model S the Saleen ST and has added a version the P85D to its modified lineup. Formerly called the Saleen FourSixteen, referencing the car's 416 horsepower, the ST stands for "Saleen Tesla." While the ST receives no increase in output, modifications include aerodynamic, suspension and brake tuning, as well as some aggressive looks to go along with it. Customers can also opt for Saleen drive ratios, making the 691-horsepower, dual-motor version accelerate from 0-60 in less than three seconds. The Saleen ST380 starts at $132,000, with the ST691 starting at $164,600. Read more at Motor Authority or in the press release below. Tesla Model S gets minor interior comfort upgrades

Wed, Feb 4 2015

The saying goes that moss doesn't grow on a rolling stone, and if that's the case, then the Tesla Model S must be one of the cleanest rocks around. Tesla continually releases little improvements for its luxury sedan, like just a few days ago with the announcement of an over-the-air update to make the P85D (pictured above) even quicker. This time the electric car company has more tweaks coming to make the ride a bit more luxurious. According to an email from Tesla, the automaker is now offering plusher, executive rear seats for the Model S for a dose of extra comfort. The softer chairs also give taller occupants in the back a little more headroom by sitting passengers between 0.4 inches and 0.6 inches lower. To keep warm, the option comes with two-zone heating, and for additional storage there's a center console with a leather-covered armrest and cup holders. In small adjustment for cold-climate drivers, Tesla is adding a heated steering wheel to its Subzero Weather Package on the Model S. The optional bundle already includes useful goodies for the winter like heated rear seats, wiper blade defrosters and heated washer nozzles.

Consumer Reports weighs in with its first Tesla Model S review

Wed, 14 Nov 2012

Everyone has been chiming in with their thoughts on the Tesla Model S lately, and with the car taking home awards like the prestigious Motor Trend Car of the Year, this probably won't change anytime soon. Not wanting to be left in the dark, Consumer Reports has managed to get its hands on a Model S to give its own impressions of the luxurious electric hatchback.
Like many other outlets (including our own first drive), CR praised the Model S for its styling (which it compares to an Audi A7) and performance (which it says "can put serious hurt on a Corvette"). With limited time with the car, the video doesn't touch on the specific range the institute attained, but it appears most of the car's time was spent on the track anyway.
On the flip side of things, CR dinged the Model S for its retractable door handles which the reviewer refers to as "fussy," and as much as CR has blasted Ford and its MyFord Touch for being distracting and largely button-less in the past, we were surprised at how much it seemed to adore the lack of buttons on Model S. They even glossed over the fact that drivers can surf the Web on the 17-inch touch screen while driving.
