This is a 1988 and a half Suzuki Samurai.  It is in excellent condition.  This is my third Samurai and it is by far the nicest (not only the nicest I have ever owned but the nicest I have ever seen).  I bought this a couple of years ago off of a certified mechanic.  The Samurai runs fantastic, no noises, smoke, or leaks of any kind.  Everything functions as new.  It has been the perfect little vehicle and has never let me down (ever).  It is inspected and has no problem doing 65 to 70 mph.
Specs:
-Rebuilt Transmission.  This was rebuilt by the certified mechanic I purchased it from.  I have pictures of the rebuild if needed.
-31x10.5 all terrain tires (90% tread or better) on a 5 inch spring over axle lift (SPOA).  All of the work was done by After Market 4x4 who specializes in Samurais.
-Rocky Road outfitters front bumper (brush guard) with hitch.  And a triangle easy-tow-bar which is not pictured, but just makes it a dream to pull behind a motor home (which is what I used this vehicle for).
-Tuffy Box center console (nice lockable armrest with 2 cup holders).
-Rear tow hitch with rack.
-Diamond plate side panels (running boards), door panels (interior), panels above rear tires (interior), and tail gate panel (interior).

Body
-The certified mechanic that I purchased the vehicle from painted it and did a very good job.  The paint is thick and has orange peel texture to it but it looks fantastic and is practically scratch resistant.  There are not scratches on the vehicle at all.  There are a few small dings on the passenger side that are about penny side but they were too small to come out in photos and really are not noticeable at all.  The biggest imperfection on the vehicle is a small ding below the driver side head light (this is covered up by the front bumper and it is just a small ding, about 1 inch by 3 inches.  Sorry about all the details, I just want to be thorough.  The vehicle looks amazing, it is truly a beauty.

Engine
-Engine runs great, no noise, smoke, or leaks and has plenty of power.

THE BAD:
The seats do have a few rips but still function well.  I have seat covers on them that look great so I have never worried about getting them re-upholstered.

Hope this is enough to give you guys a good idea on how nice this Samurai really is but if you have any questions please feel free to call me at 540-Seven One Eight-0192.  Any time after 5 PM Monday-Friday and anytime on the weekend (East Coast Time).

I will ship the vehicle at the buyers expense or you can simply fly in and DRIVE IT HOME.  I drive the vehicle to a hunting lease about once a month (3 hour round trip).

Junkyard Gem: 1997 Geo Metro LSi

Mon, Apr 22 2024

General Motors created the Geo brand in order to sell cars built in partnership with Suzuki, Isuzu and Toyota in the United States, and Geo-badged machinery was sold from the 1989 through 1997 model years. Today's Junkyard Gem, found in a New Orleans self-service boneyard recently, is one of the very last Geos ever built. There was always a close relationship between Geo and Chevrolet, which GM demonstrated by sneaking the Chevrolet bowtie into the Geo logo. The first three Geo-branded models began their careers with Chevrolet badging before getting Geo-ized for 1989. The Spectrum, twin to the Isuzu I-Mark, was a Chevrolet from 1985 through 1988. The 1985-1988 Chevrolet Sprint was a badge-engineered first-generation Suzuki Cultus, with its second-generation successor becoming the Geo Metro. The Prizm was a NUMMI-built Toyota Corolla Sprinter, which replaced the Sprinter-based 1985-1987 Chevrolet Nova. The Daewoo-built Pontiac LeMans never became a Geo, presumably because its ancestry was South Korean rather than Japanese. In 1989, Geo added the Storm (Isuzu Impulse), followed by the Tracker (Suzuki Sidekick) as a 1990 model. In December 1996, GM announced that the Geo brand would get the axe in the fall of 1997, with the Prizm, Tracker and Metro becoming Chevrolets. This car was built at CAMI Automotive in Canada in May 1997, making it one of the final handful of Geos assembled. The Chevrolet Metro stuck around through 2001. For its final model year, the Geo Metro was available with one of two trim levels: base and LSi. This car is an LSi three-door hatchback, which had an MSRP of $9,180 ($17,906 in 2024 dollars). The base three-door hatchback for 1997 listed at $8,580, or $16,735 after inflation. The most important difference between the base and LSi versions was found under the hood. The base Metro got a 1.0-liter three-cylinder engine rated at 55 horsepower and 58 pound-feet, while the LSi got the 1.3-liter "big-block" four-cylinder with 70 horses and 74 pound-feet. I owned a '96 Metro with the four-banger for a brief period, and it wasn't quite intolerably slow. This car has the optional three-speed automatic, which added $595 ($1,161 today) to the price. It also has air conditioning and a Delco AM/FM radio, which were included as part of the $1,346 1SE option package ($2,625 in today's money). It was thus a boring but serviceable commuter car that sipped gas and got its job done for 27 years and 113,610 miles.

VW, Suzuki mulling rekindling relationship in face of legal battle

Sat, 27 Jul 2013

Volkswagen and Suzuki have been undergoing marriage counseling in a bid to avoid finalizing their nasty divorce. The blissful union has been troubled for some time, with Volkswagen claiming that it could affect operational decisions at Suzuki, and the Japanese brand's sniping and constant flirting with a certain Italian temptress causing rifts.
The matter first went to court in 2012, when Suzuki demanded VW get out, and leave its 19.9-percent stake in the Japanese brand in a box to the left. Now, Automotive News is reporting that the company will give the relationship one last shot, according to closed-door dealings between the two in London.
Still, it's understood that VW and Suzuki recognize the benefit of their alliance, and that it'd be in the best interests of the kids both parties to make things work. Spokespeople declined to comment to AN, but the newsmagazine spoke with Frank Biller, an analyst for LBBW in Stuttgart, who said, "Both companies stand to benefit if they can overcome the disagreements over leadership claims."

Junkyard Gem: 1987 Chevrolet Turbo Sprint

Sun, Feb 6 2022

Fifteen years ago, I wrote my first-ever automotive article under the name Murilee Martin, and it didn't take me long to start writing about one of my favorite automotive subjects: the junkyard. Before I'd refined my system for documenting discarded vehicles, however, I shot a lot of boneyard photos that never got used. For today's Junkyard Gem, I have four shots from early 2007 of one of the rarest turbocharged machines of the 1980s: the Chevrolet Turbo Sprint. The Chevrolet Sprint was really a rebadged Suzuki Cultus, from the pre-Geo era when General Motors sold the Isuzu Gemini as the Chevrolet Spectrum, the Daewoo LeMans as the Pontiac LeMans and the Toyota Corolla as the Chevrolet Nova (soon enough, the Spectrum became a Geo, and the Nova became the Prizm). The second-generation Cultus appeared in 1988, becoming the Geo Metro on our shores the following year. The Turbo Sprint was available for just the last two years of the Sprint's 1985-1988 American sales run, and it appears that just a couple of thousand were sold; if I'd known at the time just how rare they were, I'd have shot more photos of this one at the now-defunct Hayward Pick Your Part. The turbocharged 993cc three-cylinder produced 70 horsepower, 22 better than the naturally-aspirated version. Since the Turbo Sprint weighed just 1,620 pounds (that's about 500 pounds lighter than a barely more powerful '22 Mitsusbishi Mirage), it was plenty of fun to drive. For 1988, the regular Sprint hatchback cost $6,380 while the Turbo Sprint listed at $8,240 (that's about $15,375 and $19,855 today, respectively). Believe it or not, a Turbo Sprint actually raced in the 24 Hours of Lemons 10 years ago, though it didn't end well. This ad is for the regular Cultus, not the Cultus Turbo, but the screaming guitars sound reasonably turbocharged. For the most part, Chevy Sprint marketing was all about cheap purchase price and stingy fuel economy… at a time when gasoline prices were cratering. Related Video:
