1988 Suzuki Samurai 4x4 Hard top/Tintop. It was just inspected on 7/29/14. Clean title in hand. Just got out of the shop with a fresh motor from a 84 VW rabbit. New water pump, timing chain, tensioner, oil pressure sensor, coolant temp sensor, and new set of guages (oil, temp, and boost). Have receipt for $2500 spent this july to get this vehicle in tip top shape.
This is a rare machine and is in excellent condition for its age with a lot of custom modifications. Most notably is the swap to a 1.6L VW intercooled turbo diesel engine. Plenty of power and we have averaged over 30mpg on our mountain roads. Also has spring over axle conversion lift, alloy wheels, full size spare on matching alloy wheel, custom mossy oak interior, custom steel rock rails, Yakima Roof Rack system, nice (pioneer & alpine) stereo system, rear third jumpseat, custom front bumper with grill for intercooler and foglights, recent paintjob, recent clutch 10k ago, and probably more. Won't find too many like this one. We have owned it 2 years and it was our regular drive to town car. 30-35mpg on our mountain roads and the power to run 55 uphill. I have owned a stock motor samurai and it was painfully underpowered. We looked long and hard for this vehicle and have yet to see another one as nice. It turns heads and gets waves on a daily basis. Ok, so now that your drooling, here's the less great stuff. There are a few small spots where the paint is starting to bubble a bit. Mind you this is a 1988 and finding one without major rust damage is becoming very difficult. This sammy is sound with zero structural issues or frame rust problems. Drips a few drops of oil when parked for several days and smokes a bit on cold starts (it's an old school diesel). Lets see......The springs are stock and well, it's a SPOA sammy with 5 inches of lift. Get going 60+ on winding road and it can get squirrelly. It can drive anywhere but is more happy on backroads than the interstate. The full size spare is too large for the stock tire carrier. I made an adapter and had it on there for a few months but it rattled the rear door more than I like, so we removed it. Really will need a beefier tire carrier or smaller spare. Other than that, this thing is awesomesauce. Dont miss this one. Contact me with any questions. Thanks. |

Suzuki recalling 184k GM-built models for fire risk
Fri, 23 May 2014Suzuki is recalling 184,244 total units of the 2004-2008 Forenza (pictured above) and 2005-2008 Reno manufactured under contract by Daewoo, now General Motors Korea, between September 1, 2003, through July 30, 2008, for a risk of fire. The exact split in terms of number of each model isn't available yet.
In the vehicles, the heat generated in the headlight switch or daytime running light module could cause the parts to melt and cause a fire. If this sounds somewhat familiar, it's the same reason that 218,000 units of the 2004-2008 Chevrolet Aveo are being recalled. According to General Motors spokesperson Alan Adler: "It's the same issue."
Adler explained that as the contracted manufacturer, GM is responsible for finding a remedy to this problem and providing it to Suzuki. It's a similar situation as Toyota recalling the Matrix and giving the automaker the repair parts to fix the Pontiac Vibe, which shares the platform.
EU finds Jeep Grand Cherokee and Suzuki Vitara break emissions rules
Thu, Jan 23 2020AMSTERDAM — Fiat Chrysler's Jeep Grand Cherokee and Suzuki's Vitara diesel models both break emissions rules and must be fixed or face a ban on sales across Europe, the Dutch road authority ruled on Thursday. The RDW authority, acting as the reference regulator for across the European Union, said Jeep had developed a software fix and that the authority had ordered the company to recall the model across Europe to roll it out. It added Suzuki had yet to find a credible solution for the Vitara. "Suzuki must come with adequate improvement measures or the RDW will begin the process of revoking its European type approval," the RDW said in a statement, adding it had also started the process of revoking approval for the Jeep Grand Cherokee as a "precautionary measure." Regulators across the world have been testing diesel models since Volkswagen admitted in 2015 that it used illegal software to cheat U.S. emissions tests. The RDW said it had found both the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Vitara had used "prohibited emissions strategies" that led them to emit higher levels of harmful nitrogen oxide (NOx) on the road than under testing conditions. Dutch State Secretary for Infrastructure, Stientje van Veldhoven, said in a letter to parliament she would inform prosecutors of the RDW's findings. Fiat Chrysler and Suzuki could not immediately be reached for comment. Related Video: This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Manage Settings.
Suzuki latest to admit to falsifying fuel economy tests
Wed, May 18 2016Suzuki is the latest automaker to be snagged in the broadening scandal of fuel economy falsification. Reuters reports that the head of the Japanese industrial giant admitted that it did not use the proper standards when testing its cars for fuel consumption. "The company apologizes for the fact that we did not follow rules set by the country," said CEO Osamu Suzuki (pictured bowing to reporters), as reported by Reuters. Over 2 million Suzuki vehicles are estimated to be affected. However Suzuki maintains that the company did not intentionally lie or mislead the public or government regulators about its vehicles' economy figures. Japan's transport ministry has ordered domestic automakers to resubmit those figures this week. Though Suzuki withdrew from the North American automobile market nearly four years ago, it remains the fourth largest in Japan (following Toyota, Nissan, and Honda) with particular sales strength in the Kei car segment. Like Honda and Yamaha, the company makes a variety of motorized products, including motorcycles, ATVs, and marine engines. The revelation follows hot on the heels of Mitsubishi's falsification, which broadened in scope from a few Kei cars to every vehicle it has sold in Japan stretching as far back as 1991. The controversy lead to Nissan taking control of a third of Mitsubishi's stock. Prior to that, and on the other side of the world, Volkswagen admitted to engineering its diesel vehicles to cheat emissions tests. Government regulators around the world have launched investigations into numerous other automakers to see how much farther the growing epidemic of falsifying environmental credentials can spread.
