We have a 1988 Suzuki Samurai freshly restored and modified up for auction. We started with a clean rust free Colorado truck, then stripped the body and frame down. Starting with the chassis it was modified to accept a fuel injected GM 4.3 Votec engine and 200R4 transmission. The engine was pulled from a low mileage (under 60,000) 2002 Chevy Blazer. We cleaned and inspected the engine before replacing the camshaft to a mild upgrade from Comp Cams. We replaced the water pump and thermostat and replaced the pulleys with polished aluminum ones. The headers are custom built to fit the small chassis and clear the steering linkage. We built a custom cold air intake that pulls from the vents on the side of the hood, it is baffled to keep out hot engine bay air. The radiator is an aluminium unit from Griffin Radiators and runs an electric fan that runs off a thermostat. The transmission is a GM 200R4 that was completely rebuilt including a new torque converter. We used the factory Samurai transfer case after having it cleaned and inspected. The axles were reconditioned with all new bearings, seals, brakes and hardware. We lifted the truck using custom Alcan leaf springs and Rocky Road Outfitter heavy duty shackles. Bringing the total lift over 9 inches. The exhaust is custom built with bungs for O2 sensors and uses a high quality muffler to keep things quiet. We replaced the fuel tank with an extra capacity heavy duty unit from Low Range Off Road. It includes a high volume fuel injection pump and heavy skid plate for protection. We are running BFG Mud Terrain A/T 33/10.5R15 with Mickey Thompson Wheels. The Exterior of this Samurai has been completely restored as well with new white paint inside and out. The floor of the body was bed lined top and bottom for extra protection. The front bumper was replaced with a Warn winch bumper, including a Warn M8000 winch. The rear bumper is a custom unit from Rocky Road Outfitters ready for a spare tire and High Lift jack. The Top is a new from best top. The seats are custom order from Corbeau Seats and ready for your choice of restraints. Shifting is done through a Lokar shifter with led indicator. The transfer case shifter is original but modified and relocated in the body. All gauges are original clean and work accurately. The glass has all been replaced including the windshield and door glass. The door and quarter panel trim is custom from Low Range Off Road as well as window cranks and hardware. A new Kenwood Stereo and Speakers were installed that is blue tooth, I pod and satellite ready. Overall this is one of the cleanest updated Suzuki Samurai's you'll find.  This is a vehicle you can jump in, start right up and enjoy driving without worries. Its like driving a new vehicle. Suzuki Jimny displays Samurai spirit in Japanese snowstorm

Thu, 20 Feb 2014

Say what you will about its smallest SUVs, but you have to hand it to Suzuki: the likes of the Samurai, Sidekick and Vitara were doing the little-sport-ute-that-could thing long before most of the rest of the industry caught on. And the formula remains relevant enough that Suzuki is still selling the same basic Samurai overseas as the Jimny.
That could be why the Samurai still has something of a cult following. Well, that and the name - which, as it turns out, may not have been such a stretch after all. A Samurai warrior, after all, was just one man - but like any other knight, he was worth more than his headcount on the battlefield. Or in this case, a Japanese snowstorm. Just watch the half-minute video below to see what we mean.

Four seniors to drive around world in pair of Suzuki Jimny SUVs for charity

Fri, 29 Mar 2013

Plenty of us here at Autoblog have designs for epic drives. Whether it's bouncing around the country in an old International or heading from Alaska to Chile on a bike, we like to think we have big aspirations. Or at least we did until we heard about these four gentlemen. You see, Leslie George Carvall, Alan Butler, Glyn Maher and Charles Scott are all in their 70's, and they plan to pile into a pair of Suzuki Jimny SUVs and drive around the world. Sort of makes a hike across country seem like a trip down the block to the local corner store. They're calling it "The Ultimate Challenge," and they plan to undertake the journey for two reasons.
First, they want to prove that age shouldn't stand in the way of people doing what they want to do. Second, the group hopes to raise funds for the 'Heaven Can Wait I'm Busy' group, which aims to direct money toward worthy charities both in the UK and around the world. Save the Children and Oakhaven Hospice are the two currently designated charities.
The trip gets started in just three days, and you can head over to the effort's site to track their progress. The route should cover some 16,500 road miles and 10,375 sea miles. You can also catch up with the project on Facebook.

Suzuki Jimny gets confused by American guardrails

Wed, Dec 19 2018

The reborn Suzuki Jimny 4x4 has faced some crosswinds in the time it's been on the market: It earned only three stars in its Euro NCAP test due to a badly-inflating driver airbag and troubles with pedestrian protection. The automatic emergency braking function also had some issues in NCAP testing, but now the Jimny's AEB system is facing an another problem — it appears to be confused by guardrails. Two German-market Jimnys had been shipped to Los Angeles for the World Car of the Year testing, Australian journalists found that on some corners of the California test route, the AEB was seemingly triggered by a guardrail in a curve in the road. The problem was found with both Jimnys, and Suzuki's Jimny chief engineer was present to look into the matter; later, Suzuki engineers were able to replicate the glitch with these particular vehicles on the same road. While U.S. sales of the Jimny are extremely unlikely, test data acquired on American roads still seems to be highly valuable for Suzuki, as tests in Japan could not replicate the problem. It appears the road condition, tilt angle, curve aspects and vehicle speed all conspired to puzzle the AEB system, which is now being evaluated for a software or calibration change. The jerky correction by the electronic stability program, audible on the CarAdvice video, happened at 45-55 mph, which is not overly fast for even the narrow and tall Jimny — it is possible that the AEB mistook the guardrail for another car. Suzuki stated: "There is a possibility that the (stability control) is instantaneously switched on (by) reacting to the vehicle sway when departing the S-shaped curve — and then consecutively switches on because the vehicle is circling the curve at high speeds. [...] The intervention of the stability control may give a sense of discomfort to the driver but is not an event that would disturb the vehicle's direction of movement." The driver safety assists are a good addition to the Jimny, of course, given that the 1980s second-generation truck was the subject of a beef between Consumer Reports and Suzuki North America due to its reported tippiness in corners.
