1988 Suzuki Samurai, 23,582 Miles, Ja, Restored on 2040-cars

Year:1988 Mileage:23582
Location:

Portsmouth, Rhode Island, United States

Portsmouth, Rhode Island, United States

This vehicle has been a hobby car for the last 9 years. It had been mostly stored for the previous 17 or so years of its life. After buying it, when I discovered an issue it was corrected. At this time there is only one area that I feel needs attention (and I'm not sure why neither I or my body and fender guy missed it on our last annual inspection) is about a 3 inch section of the right rear that has evidently corroded (please see picture). I would have corrected this but have so many other things on my plate right now that I can not attend to it - if it is a "deal killer" ... so be it... probably ~$100 body and fender effort.

Good:

1. Few mechanical miles and no physical issues - 4WD works, can be a daily driver... recently drove it from storage facility at 55+ MPH on the highway amongst "semis" with no issues.

2. Tires have less than 8000 miles on them.

3. Complete body restoration and the interior is original with minimal wear issues, i.e. no rips, tears or holes. The passenger side seat had one minor (repaired) issue.

4. New Bestop SunPort top; recent Cal Mini performance exhaust system; regular physical maintenance.

5. Rhode Island inspection to 10/2015.

Bad:

1. Car was built in 1988... you can't get past the age... buy it and plan on maintaining it.

2. Car has been domiciled near the ocean with resulting undercarriage superficial corrosion (BUT NO MECHANICAL ISSUES).

3. Suspension is stiff (as all Samurai's)... don't expect your wife to like it.

Bottom line:

Pictures speak for themselves... I love this car and will keep it if I have to. I have been advised that these are now collectible vehicles.

Please don't bid on this car expecting to find a new, or dealer prepped vehicle... it is a hobby car and I, and my "professional team" have been as diligent as possible to keep it nice but depending on your state of sobriety... you may/or may not see "warts".

If you bid and win... please plan on closing the deal with cash. I have a limited amount of time to work this and, if issues arise in the process - I have NO patience with banking bureaucracy - I will just keep the car and ship it to my new location. If you want me to advise you on shipping, I will be happy to tell you who I and my people have found to be reliable.

All that being said... you will LOVE this car... as I have.

It's a hard knock life for a N"urburgring rental car

Wed, 12 Dec 2012

Rental cars get no respect. They're abused, misused and flogged mercilessly as athletes in Rental Car Olympics. And that's just at your everyday airport rental counter. The torture gets extreme for rental cars thrashed around Germany's infamous Nürburgring.
Rent4Ring expects its customers to drive its cars around the 'Ring with enthusiasm and, in some cases, less skill than the pros. Rent4Ring just recently retired its Suzuki Swift Sport from its fleet and shared the car's two-year-plus lifetime highlights.
The little hatchback made more than 2,800 laps of the 'Ring over three seasons amounting to more than 310,000 miles driven by 457 different drivers. "Some were fast, some were slow. Some were nice to the car, a few were frankly awful," says a Rent4Ring rep.

Next Suzuki SX4 spotted again

Wed, 05 Sep 2012

Thanks to a sketch of the Suzuki S-Cross concept, we can already see the styling direction that the next-generation SX4 will take, and Suzuki is still hard at work on the production version of the car as evidenced by this latest batch of spy shots. These photos look almost identical to those captured back in July, but we see a little more detail at the rear of the car and get a better idea of the next SX4's proportions.
With the baggy camouflage lifted up at the rear of this prototype, we can see that the SX4 replacement has a very Mazda-chic look to it with downward-angled taillights that stretch into the liftgate. Aside from this, the big news is that we're finally getting a sense of the new SX4's size. Suzuki's press release attached to the Paris-bound S-Cross sketch said that the SX4 replacement would be growing to the compact segment rather than being a subcompact like the current car. Recent reports indicate that the next version of this car will be sized closer to the Grand Vitara, and in these pictures, you can definitely see how much the car has grown.
Still unknown is when we can expect to see the production version of the new SX4, or what will be inside it (available turbo power?), but hopefully Suzuki will not delay things like it did with the Kizashi and its numerous concepts.

2013 Suzuki SX4 gets new generation to carry on without us [w/video]

Wed, 06 Mar 2013

Despite the fact that the coffin has been sealed on Suzuki's US automotive arm, the brand is carrying on elsewhere in the world. The first new product to spearhead the Japanese automaker's product offerings in Europe is this SX4 crossover, making its official debut here at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show. You may remember the little SX4 as the cheapest all-wheel-drive car on sale in the US, packing cute styling and efficient, affordable packaging. And it doesn't appear that the formula has changed too much for this new generation, despite what we think are less attractive new duds derived from Suzuki's 2012 S Cross Concept.
The new SX4 is powered by a choice of two 1.6-liter engines - one diesel, one petrol - the former mated to a six-speed manual transmission while the latter uses a CVT with a "seven-speed manual mode" operated by steering wheel-mounted paddles. All-wheel drive remains intact on the SX4, now with four driver-selectable modes and the Allgrip name.
Suzuki is touting the SX4 as having the world's first double sliding glass sunroof, offering "the largest opening areas" in the segment. Overall, the updated interior looks nicely designed and quite functional, though not exactly a shining beacon of refinement.
