Priced to sell! 2005 Subaru Outback L.L. Bean Edition, Low Miles!
I am selling my 2005 Outback., L.L. Bean Edition. The Kelly Blue Book dealer retail for this car is $17,127, and good condition retail for a private sale is $13,949 The trade-in value is $11,584. I have a friend with an Infiniti for sale that I'd like to buy, but I need to sell this one first. It has very low miles for a 2005, 84,xxx miles. (I live 9 miles from my office.) The low mileage is part of the reason the car is valued the way it is on Kelly Blue Book, but in general, Subaru Outbacks hold their value, especially the L.L. Beaners. It's been well cared for and we've only used full synthetic oil in it. New tires less than one year ago, and brand new battery was installed right before winter. These cars are the very best in the snow, but of course if you are interested in a Subie, you already know this! This is the 3.0 L engine. Non-Smoker owned The LL Bean Edition is very nice with a 6 Disc Multi-CD Changer, Heated Seats, and Awesome Moonroof. I am the second owner, and bought this subaru in St. Louis. The original owner purchased this vehicle from Webster Groves Subaru and always maintained service there. I have always changed oil every 3-5,000 miles with full synthetic oil. There are three very minor barely visible dings on the driver side, and one rub on the front right bumber. Nothing serious, nor do these issues effect the overall very good appearance of the vehicle. There is a very slow oil leak, common among subaru, and I have added two quarts of oil over the past year. Please email if you have questions. |

Subaru axes WRX and STI in UK
Fri, 14 Dec 2012Auto Express reports Subaru will stop selling the Impreza, WRX and WRX STI in the UK starting next year. A spokesperson with the company said Subaru has been evaluating the Impreza and its performance in the UK for the past year and has finally decided to pull the plug. That means all of the model's performance iterations will also drop off of dealer lots, including the WRX and the STI. The unnamed spokesperson said Subaru UK currently has no plans to to bring more stock of either model once the current supply sells out. That means buyers in the UK have until around early summer 2013 to get their hands on an STI.
The move comes in response to slow demand, which has trickled off in the face of competition that best the machine in terms of refinement, performance and emissions. Moving forward, the automaker says it will focus its sales efforts on models like the XV Crosstrek, Forester and Outback, as well as the company's new BRZ sports coupe.

Mon, Aug 29 2016Back in the 1980s, Subaru decided that the futuristic-looking, gadget-packed Alcyone would go over well in North America, and so the XT became available for the 1985 through model years. They were reasonably popular in California, and I saw this discarded example awaiting its fate in a Los Angeles wrecking yard. Because the boxer engine in the XT was so low, the car could have an extreme wedge-shaped body and a very low coefficient of drag. Inside, an asymmetrical steering wheel, gearshift that looked like it had been torn from the cockpit of a Mitsubishi F2, and Mars Base-style controls made Toyotas and Hondas of the era look staid and sensible. Junkyard Gem: 1984 Subaru GL 4WD Wagon, Colorado Stereotypes Edition
Tue, Mar 21 2017I live in Denver, which means my local junkyards are well-stocked with used-up Subarus. These days, that means mostly Outbacks from the 1995-2005 period, but sufficient 1970s and 1980s Subarus remain in service that they show up from time to time. Here, in a Denver self-service yard, is a second-generation Leone wagon, from the era when this car was called just "the Subaru" in the American market. It appears that this car's final owner named it The Little D. Right next to the rag being used as a gas cap, a Yoda-ized Steal Your Face skull. This sticker from Incredible Extracts is easy to find in and on the cars in Denver-area wrecking yards. Someone made a pretty good Hunter S. Thompson stencil for the right-hand rear side glass. Neither of the two other members of the Male Hipster Holy Trinity (Kerouac and Bukowski) are to be found here, but then those two didn't live in Colorado. Anonymous is everywhere, even the junkyard. In 1984, the GL was the top trim level of the Subaru wagon, and the MSRP on this car was $8,168. That's about 19 grand in 2017 dollars. The going rate for a hooptie '84 GL wagon in 2017 is about $250. This car has manually-actuated four-wheel-drive, rather than the center-differential-equipped all-wheel-drive you'll get with your 21st-century Subaru. This meant that drivers were supposed to use front-wheel-drive on dry asphalt and four-wheel-drive on snow or dirt, but many didn't understand the concept and tore up their tires and/or powertrains by running 4WD at all times. These cars would get you to the slopes every time, and they'd do it cheaply enough for you to afford your preferred intoxicants once you got there.
