Subaru announces 2019 BRZ pricing, new Series.Gray limited edition

Subaru has announced the pricing of the 2019 model year BRZ coupe, along with a new limited edition version. A 250-unit Series.Gray edition will be offered as the top version. The cheapest BRZ trim level, yet called Premium, starts at $25,795 for 2019. That is a $200 bump from 2018, and changes include a standard rear-view camera, welcome lighting for approaching or exiting the vehicle, and dual USB ports. Otherwise the equipment list largely reads like the 2018 BRZ's the $28,645 Limited trim gets an updated seven-inch multimedia system which now gets over-the-air WiFi updates. As for the $30,140 Series.Gray edition, it can be recognized from the edition-specific Cool Gray Khaki hue, which is the same color as on a limited edition of the Japan-only BRZ STI Sport unveiled at last year's Tokyo Motor Show. Essentially, the Series.Gray is based on the Limited trim level, with the $1,195 Performance Package on top that adds improved Brembo brakes front and rear, along with Sachs sports shocks. 17-inch black wheels are included, as well as different interior stitching and an improved rear-view mirror; outside mirrors have a different, crystal black finish. Meanwhile in Japan, the BRZ has also been updated slightly for 2019. While the exterior hasn't changed much, the car has gained small rear wheel arch fins to control aerodynamics more efficiently, and the shock absorbers have been changed to improve the car's handling further. Subaru is America's third most off-roaded brand

When you think of iconic off-road brands, where does Subaru fall on your radar? Somewhere in the middle? Perhaps near the bottom? Don't worry, you're not alone. Until recently spending some time in Bend, OR, where we drove the all-new 2015 Subaru Outback, we never really pegged the Japanese automaker to be a highly lauded brand among off-road enthusiasts, despite many of the company's products actually being quite capable when the going gets rough.
But the data says we're wrong. According to a 2013 J.D. Power study, Subaru vehicles have some of the highest use off road compared to other brands - of course "off road" here just means anything not on a paved road, so even gravel trails and tame two-tracks count in these statistics. Nearly 29.5 percent of its cars are used on trails and dirt roads, with only the Ram and Jeep brands besting that statistic, at 30.2 and 31.0 percent, respectively. Said another way, Subaru sold 424,683 vehicles in the US in 2013, meaning that some 125,281 saw off-road use. Mainstream brands like GMC, Ford and Chevrolet all trail Subaru, and even Land Rover comes in at less than 20 percent.
Some 34.7 percent of Outbacks are taken off paved roads, according to J.D. Power data.

2020 Subaru Crosstrek gains more equipment and a slightly higher price tag

Subaru gave us a brand-new Crosstrek for the 2018 model year, and we liked it. Last year was the year of the plug-in hybrid Crosstrek, and in general, we liked that one too. Those players in the 2020 Subaru Crosstrek lineup remain the same as last year, but Subaru released some notable changes today. The base price goes up collectively by $285 due to a $250 increase in MSRP and $35 increase in the destination charge. That leaves the base Crosstrek with the six-speed manual at $23,155 this year. If you want the automatic it’ll cost you $1,350 more, running the total to $24,505. However, the price increase comes with more equipment added as standard. Automatic transmission models gain the most. If you opt for the CVT, Subaru tacks on its EyeSight driver assistance tech, automatic climate control, auto stop/start, the SI-Drive powertrain management system and door locks that automatically engage when put into drive. If you get the manual, though, everything but the automatic door locks go away. Lame. If you want a more luxurious experience with the three-pedal car, you have to opt for the slightly more expensive Premium trim starting at $24,205. We think itÂ’s worth the extra coin, though. Pricing for the Crosstrek Hybrid only goes up by $185, leaving that carÂ’s base price at $36,155 for 2020. Nothing new is coming to that model for the new year. However, there is one new feature coming to every trim of Crosstrek we havenÂ’t mentioned yet. A rear seat reminder will be standard on all 2020 models, a safety feature Subaru has been adding to some of its other models for the new year. Availability for the 2020 Crosstrek is somewhat vague, as Subaru says theyÂ’ll arrive in dealers “later this year.” WeÂ’ll suggest you watch out for them come late November or December if youÂ’re in the market for a new Crosstrek.
