Bought this in 2008 when it had 106,000 miles.  Have driven it almost 100,000 miles.  Amount one month ago, it was sitting at the curb idling and I was at someone's door talking with them.  Engine made odd noise and stopped.  I went out to it and tried to start it.  Wouldn't start.  Made noise like when battery not strong enough to turn it over.  I knew this was not the case.  Had it towed to a Chrysler / Nissan dealer's garage.  They investigated and found that an idler pulley on the timing belt had froze.  That put much strain on the cam shaft pulley and it broke and the timing belt broke too.  We decided to replace those parts and see if it would run.  When those new parts were installed it started right up.  At that point we also put in a new water pump.  Have driven it several hundred miles since then and it has given no trouble at all.  When timing belt broke, mileage was 201,187 and now mileage is 201,429.  But in the meantime, we bought a new car.  So, we are selling this one.   We have enjoyed this car a bunch and hate to part w it.  But, new car has much fewer miles.  I have changed oil regularly and used Wix filters.  I usually use 20W50 oil in all my cars.  On the interstate I drive about 60 mph.  Radio and A/C work.  Ever since I have had it, it seems to shift w a little thump when going into a higher gear.  Has gotten very slightly worse over the yrs.  Have never thought till recently that I might just need to change the transmission fluid or clean out the filter there.  There is a trailer hitch on it, but all we have ever hauled is to put a bike rack on it and haul our bicycles.  New alternator about 2 yrs ago.  New radiator about 1 yr ago.  New left front axle about 2 yrs ago.  We have never had any wreck at all w it.  As far as we can tell by looking underneath, no one else has.  When I had this car to Lou Fusz Subaru in St Louis, he had it on his cptr system and noted that it had a new engine put in it at 60,000.  Lou Fuzs said that the factory engine began to knock a little at the end of the factory warranty and they honored it and put in a new engine.

A mighty Outback breaks ground at Subaru's new USA HQ

Fri, Dec 11 2015

Subaru is getting down to business at its new American headquarters. Announced just a year ago, the Japanese automaker just broke ground for construction of the new facility. And though it's moving from its existing location, the company is staying in New Jersey just as it has for nearly half a century now. The new facility is being built in Camden, opposite Campell's headquarters in a development spearheaded by the soup company. As part of the project, Subaru will relocate its current offices from Cherry Hill and Pennsauken to the new Camden headquarters, which will accommodate over 600 employees in one building with 250,000 square feet and another with 83,000 – more than double the size of its current headquarters. The distribution and training center, however, will stay put in Florence, NJ. The $118 million project is earmarked for completion by the end of 2017. The groundbreaking ceremony took place yesterday in front of an array of historic Subaru models. The earth itself was moved by a specially prepared yellow Outback wagon with a plow attached to the front. Subaru's decision to remain in Jersey comes in stark contrast to Mercedes' move out of the state and down south to Georgia. Other automakers with their North American headquarters in New Jersey include Volvo in Rockleigh, Mitsubishi (ironically) in Swedesboro, BMW in Woodcliff Lake, and Jaguar Land Rover in Mahwah. SUBARU OF AMERICA BREAKS GROUND ON NEW HEADQUARTERS IN CAMDEN, NJ Cherry Hill, N.J. - Subaru of America, Inc. today broke ground on its future home in Camden, NJ. The company plans to develop an all-new $118 million corporate headquarters in the city, and in doing so, maintain its corporate headquarters in New Jersey as it has for approaching 50 years. The automaker's new headquarters will be located adjacent to Campbell Soup Company's world headquarters. The Subaru of America campus will be the first new corporate headquarters in Knights Crossing, a master plan urban town center community, being developed by Brandywine Realty Trust. The ground-breaking ceremony featured a display of historic Subaru vehicles from the company's 50 years in the Delaware Valley, as well as a unique earth moving/groundbreaking ceremony conducted by a specially-produced Subaru Outback with an attached plow. 2020 Subaru Outback teased, will be all-new at the New York Auto Show

Wed, Apr 10 2019

The 2020 Subaru Outback is officially confirmed for a debut at the New York International Auto Show, and Subaru says it's going to be "all-new." That's all the official information we have to go on at this point, but Subaru released a teaser photo to give us a glimpse of the tall, rugged wagon before the reveal on April 17. We can tell a few differences just from the photo here. The lower bumper surround and foglight design is more compact than the big round lights that sit down there currently. Subaru has changed the side mirror design, adding a bit of flair with chrome on this model. It's tough to tell what the headlight design will look like, but it's certainly a different shape and size than the current units that stretch back further into the fenders. There's even more black plastic cladding on the car now, too. Subaru had plenty of the stuff going up and down the Outback before, but the wheel arch molding was optional. It's unclear whether it's going to remain that way or be the only way it comes now. One small thing we noticed was the location of the "Outback" designation in the body cladding — it moved from being under the front door to under the rear door. Subaru appears to be offering a new black wheel option that we see on this car, as well. The Outback last received a significant update for the 2018 model year. That car was also revealed at NYIAS, but it was a relatively minor update compared to what's coming. We'll expect to see a lot of the same features as what was revealed in the new 2020 Legacy at the Chicago Auto Show earlier this year. That car went way upscale with its interior design, moved to Subaru's Global Platform, dropped the flat six for a turbo flat-four and features a massive 11.6-inch touchscreen. It's no surprise we're seeing the new Outback so soon after the Legacy update, as Subaru has traditionally updated the two vehicles this way.
