I am the third owner of this car. I bought it in December and do not want to sell it, but I am in college and need to get a beater. I bought it from a 60 year old man that had it for ten or so years and completely babied it. He bought it from a retired black hawk pilot that had three STi's for a hobby. The 60 year old I bought it from used it as his commuter and never ran it hard. He had money and just dumped money into this car whenever he wanted to do something to it. He sold it to buy a brand new BMW for his new commuter (he had two in his driveway). He washed the car every saturday rain or shine. The car has AT LEAST $10,000-$15,000 in aftermarket parts, my best guess is closer to $20,000-$25,000. I am a mechanic going to school for aviation mechanics and know about most of the aftermarket parts. Here is a list:

-Turbosmart Recirculating BOV
-TurboXS Top Mount Intercooler
-Garrett 18G Turbo
-Halman manual boost control
-Invidia up pipe
-Invidia down pipe
-DBA Headers and full exhaust (not loud, just sounds good)
-Deatschwerks Injectors
-Walbro Fuel Pump
-JIC Majic 15 way dampening coil overs (sits 1" lowered)
-Hawk HPS pads and slotted rotors (both brand new)
-Steel braided brake lines
-$100 a set lug nuts (chrome/all locking/guaranteed not to wear and or rust.)
-Okada Projects Plasma Direct Coil Packs (Ignition coils)
-PowerXFilter Cold Air Intake
-JDM 5th and 6th gears (lower gears... makes it have CRAZY acceleration in 5th and 6th. It redlines at 160 mph instead of the governor kicking on at 160)
-Stage 3 Clutchmasters Clutch with kevlar (kevlar makes it last longer)
-Lightweight Flywheel
-Cobb ECU reflash
-New headlight bulbs (really bright, HiDs)
-Pioneer Head unit and Speakers in all four doors with tweeters (2004 STi's didn't come from factory with a radio, it was a dealer installed option. They came with speakers in the two front doors and tweeters.)
-Subaru all weather mats in the two front seat floors

I have the paperwork and stickers he saved that came with most of the items above. The intercooler, BOV, brakes, coilovers, turbo, and clutch was all 500 miles old when I bought the car. I bought it with 80,000 miles. The owner before him did things to the car as well, but I'm not sure exactly what it was, my guess is engine work. Since I have had it, I took the car to IAG Performance (look them up they are one of if not the best Subaru garage in the US, take the car to them and they will remember it and know about it). They changed the front/rear differential fluid and tranny fluid, put in new spark plugs, did a compression test (passed with flying colors), and did a regular tune up and I told them to look over the whole car for anything they knew to look for and they said it is in amazing condition. I put new tires on it two months ago (still like new) they are 235s instead of 225s (stock), and with it being lowered, the fenders need rolled so they wont rub the wheel wells. IAG rolls fenders for like $200.

The car is 9.5/10 inside and out. I have taken great care of it and so has the previous owners. I know the pictures show it isn't extremely clean at the moment, but I detail cars while Im in school, and will clean it good before its sold. It runs great with absolutely no problems. I regularly change the oil with royal purple. It burns a little oil but thats ok for the STi's, Subaru says it is ok for them to burn one quart every 1,000 miles. It needs a new tune (somewhere like IAG will dyno-tune it) because of the new parts on it. When it is tuned it should be between 400-450 hp and ft. lbs. torque. Thats if there is not any forged internals, if there is, it will be set up to push a lot of boost and you will be able to make over 500 without hurting anything. The car is fast as it is, I'm very upset that I can't keep it and do this myself. This is considered the best year for STi's by any Subaru enthusiast. It is the lightest year and doesn't have as much luxury in the interior as other years (They re-designed the WRX and made the STi in 2004 and hurried it out the door as a straight rally car). THIS THING WILL EAT UP AN EVO!!

Any questions message me I will answer anything I can.

Subaru to stop building Camry for Toyota in the US

Fri, 09 May 2014

It was back in 2007 that Subaru of Indiana Automotive, under contract from Subaru minority shareholder Toyota, built the first Toyota Camry at its plant in Lafayette, Indiana. Rumblings of the end of that contract work have been around for a while, as Subaru talked of expanding capacity to build more units and add a line for the Impreza, and Toyota talked of moving Camry production to its Georgetown, KY plant. The news was official internally last November when SIA Executive Vice President Tom Easterday told the Louisville Courier-Journal that Camry production would end. Now, Automotive News reports that both automakers have admitted publicly that the end will come in 2016.
SIA currently has a 170,000-unit capacity devoted to the home-brand Legacy and Outback models, while a $400-million expansion increases that to 300,000 units to prepare the facility for Impreza production in two years. Freeing up the 100,000 units of production devoted to the Camry means a 400,000-unit capability, which is far more than Subaru needs at the moment, but the Toyota exit will allow it to expand any way it sees fit. Subaru has said it will absorb the workers on the Camry line and no jobs will be lost, the mayor of Lafayette saying the development could change the timetable for the expansion.

10 automakers shack up in Detroit hotel to talk Takata airbags

Sun, Dec 14 2014

Since Takata has decided not to take the lead concerning potential issues with its airbag inflators, the automakers have. Perhaps that's unsurprising, since it's the automakers, not Takata, that will take a beating on the dealership floor if consumers decide its models are a health hazards. The Detroit News reports that Toyota, Honda, General Motors, Ford, Chrysler, Mazda, BMW, Nissan, Mitsubishi and Subaru met in a hotel conference room near the Detroit Metropolitan Airport last week to sort out a way to understand the technical issues involved. So far, faulty airbag inflators have been ruled the cause of five deaths and 50 injuries around the world, but neither Takata nor investigators understands exactly why the inflators are malfunctioning. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recently asked Takata to issue a national recall, Takata declined, citing a minuscule failure rate and the fact that it's still investigating the issue. Toyota and Honda then made an industry-wide appeal for "a coordinated, comprehensive testing program" that would pinpoint the problem inflators and get them replaced, and that's what the Detroit meeting was about. Numerous issues, however, will make this a long row to hoe: simply getting the parts to replace the nearly 20 million inflators in cars recalled around the world so far - even working with other suppliers - will take a years, but more importantly, no one knows if the replacement inflators currently being installed will suffer the same issue. Answers will hopefully come quickly with Takata, the ten automakers and NHTSA all independently investigating the problem.

WRX Concept styling may transfer to production Impreza, next WRX

Thu, 05 Jun 2014

Remember the original concept that previewed the latest generation Subaru WRX? If not, then just look above for a gallery of photos following its debut at the 2013 New York Auto Show. We loved it, and thus, were sort of disappointed when we first saw the less-aggressive production model.
It's not that the production 2015 WRX is ugly, per se. It just doesn't have the gaping grille, four-door coupe lines or squinting headlights that give the concept so much verve. But as it turns out, Subaru might have realized that it was on the right track with the more assertive styling. Rumors coming out of Australia suggest that the shape could form the basis for the next-generation Impreza, and next WRX, along with a major platform shift.
Subaru chief designer Mamoru Ishii tells Motoring that that the next-generation car will ditch the rather utilitarian current design in favor of something more exciting. Like the WRX concept, the design will start wide at the bottom for an aggressive stance and taper up to the roof. That styling would likely get even more aggressive for the next 'Rex.
