I bought this vehicle from Texas so it is rust free (not like most of our rigs in Minnesota after a few years). It is in nearly order perfect with a few exceptions:
1. I bought if from a dealer in Texas off the internet. It sat buttoned up from September to late March. It arrived poorly detailed. That isn't a big deal but I was disappointed. I have gone over this thing thoroughly and cleaned the carpets with a non-allergenic rug cleaner, scrubbed the interior including the headliner, purged the climate system including the evaporator area, and fixed some poorly touched-up small paint chips. The body is in great shape with the exception of minor chips and a couple small scratches. The original owner put the 3M protective covering on the hood and mirrors.
2. The vehicle arrived with the CEL showing an air pump malfunction. They told me it was in perfect working order. They couldn't have missed on this one. I suspect the original owner got an estimate on it and decided to trade it in. The air pump and valves simply pumps clean air into the exhaust at start up to make the exhaust appear cleaner. Google this (Subaru secondary air pump air valve problems) and you will see many have gone through this. At the time of this posting, I have the valves ordered (Wow! Are they expensive!) and will get this fixed properly. I can understand the former owner's hesitation if they got an estimate. If for some reason a code still appears, I will discount or rebate the new owner $200 even after the vehicle is gone. This should more than pay for a mechanic to look at it.
3. It sometimes idles a bit rough. It doesn't bother me and I'm fussy. Many postings say this is typical for this engine. Many also say it goes away when the air injections system is fixed.
4. There is a minor air leak on the driver's side when the vehicle is in a strong cross wind. I haven't tried to fix it yet.
5. The tires are on the low end of just okay. It seems to make sense for the next owner to get exactly the tires needed to match the type of driving that will be done.
Here's what is great:
1. The body is in very fine shape. There is one fifty-cent piece sized dent on the front bumper but it has gorgeous paint. I will wax it one more time before shipping or meeting to sell.
2. I put on a new hitch. I didn't put in the wiring harness yet (I think they are about $35) and take a few minutes to install.
3. Turbos require premium but it's worth it. This thing really has pep! It cost about $2-$3 a tank more to fill in our area. I have consistently been getting 26 mpg but I do drive the posted speed limits :)
4. Per the manual, I put in a new timing belt and water pump. I cleaned the injectors. It has new plugs (hard to get at). The oil will be freshly changed when I sell it.
5. The interior is in great shape (no tears). The leather shows some mild signs of wear but everything is quite remarkable given the vehicle is six years old.
I would be willing to Face Time with serious buyers. This can be set up through e-mail. With this, you can get a virtual tour and test drive. I am busy this time of the year and would need to limit this to only very those who are in the hunt with the bidding.

2015 Subaru WRX to get CVT option?
Thu, 14 Nov 2013The 2015 Subaru WRX will make its debut at the 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show next week - that much we know for sure. We'll have all of the official specs very soon, but it seems Jalopnik has stumbled upon an official-looking document that spells out some of the 'Rex's finer details, including the availability of a continuously variable transmission.
Now, before you throw your laptops and phones out the window, know this: a proper manual transmission will still be available. Do remember, the WRX has always had an automatic option, and the move to a CVT for the 2015 model isn't terribly surprising. According to the document, the new WRX will use a 2.0-liter turbocharged flat-four - a change from the 2.5-liter engine in the current car. Subaru also employs a 2.0T boxer engine in the Forester, where it's mated to a CVT. What's more, the Impreza on which the new WRX is based also uses a CVT in favor of a conventional automatic.
Jalopnik points out that the more hardcore WRX STI will use a 2.5-liter turbo-four, and will only be available with a manual transmission. Additionally, there will reportedly be a "launch edition" of the STI, painted in the car's signature WR Blue (fingers crossed for gold wheels!).
2019 Volkswagen Jetta GLI vs. sport compact sedans: How they compare on paper
Thu, Feb 28 2019Hot hatchbacks may be stealing the headlines, but they're not the only way to get cheap speed. There are actually a number of small sporty sedans on the market, too, in case you want that more formal roofline. The recently revealed 2019 Volkswagen Jetta GLI highlighted these vehicles, so we figured we'd take a look at the specifications and see how they compare to each other. Our contenders are the aforementioned VW, along with the 2019 Honda Civic Si, 2019 Subaru WRX and 2019 Hyundai Elantra Sport. All four start under $30,000 and offer more than 200 horsepower. And of course, they all have trunks. In our comparison, we'll look at each car's powertrain comparing horsepower and torque. We'll also look at practicalities such as interior space, fuel economy and pricing. You can see the raw numbers in the chart below, followed by additional analysis and links to reviews. If you'd like to compare any of these cars with a different group, be sure to check out our car comparison tool. Engines and drivetrains Performance, and particularly power, is likely a priority for a sporty sedan buyer, and there's a clear leader: the Subaru WRX. At 268 horsepower, it's 40 ponies ahead of the next most potent car, the 228-horsepower Jetta GLI. It also ties the GLI for torque at 258 pound-feet. Both cars also support the old adage that "there's no replacement for displacement," since each have 2.0-liter engines while the Hyundai has a 1.6-liter unit and the Honda engine only displaces 1.5 liters. The Hyundai and Honda are nearly tied for power and torque, too, at roughly 200 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque. Another bonus for the Subaru is its standard all-wheel-drive system, which is handy for power delivery, lateral grip and for inclement weather. While the Jetta GLI and Civic Si are front-drive only, they do feature mechanical limited-slip differentials to enhance traction under power. The Elantra Sport makes do with electronic aids and an open differential. We're pleased that all four of these cars offer manual transmissions, too. But if you do want or need an automatic transmission, the VW, Subaru and Hyundai have you covered. The VW and Hyundai rely on seven-speed dual-clutch transmissions, and the Subaru uses a CVT with eight preset ratios for manual mode shifting. The Civic Si, though, is manual only (and it's an excellent manual at that).
Subaru pulls on our heartstrings with father and daughter ad
Sun, Jun 7 2015Do you remember your first car? Was it a hand-me-down from your parents? While it wasn't actually my first car, my parents gifted me a 1990 Mercury Sable as a daily driver, considering that my own chosen car, a 1965 Karmann Ghia, wasn't exactly the most reliable steed in the world. And while I predictably disliked the new-to-me family car, looking back, it was perfect – reliable, safe and, perhaps most importantly for a 17-year-old, free. If it weren't for that car, simple things like going to school, interviewing for jobs and even going to see a movie with friends would have been a massive ordeal. I eventually traded that old Mercury in on the first new car I ever bought at a dealership, with my parents' blessing and, as you might have guessed, my dad's co-signature. While I know not everyone's automotive journey began this way, I'm certain that my story is not actually mine alone. That's why this new ad from Subaru pulls at so many heartstrings – a father cleans out his old Forester, finding keepsakes and nearly-forgotten memories along the way, as he prepares to pass it on to his 16-year-old daughter. Check out the video above, and feel free to share your own hand-me-down stories in Comments. News Source: Subaru via YouTube, Adweek Marketing/Advertising Subaru Ownership Crossover Videos first car
