2004 Subaru Forester 2.5 XT Turbo with Manual Transmission

Color: Java Black Pearl

Mileage: 207,370

Car will need to get picked up by buyer from its current location in New Jersey.

About this 2004 Subaru Forester XT (Turbocharged):
I am the original and only owner of this Subaru Forester XT. The majority of the miles on this vehicle are from highway driving which explains why I got 187,000 miles from the original clutch, which was still good when it got replaced by the Subaru dealer in July 2012.  Prior to this the only other major repair was with the timing belt and two timing valves being replaced in January 2011. I religiously took this car into Jiffy Lube every 3,000 mile for oil changes and have had the transmission and transfer case oils changed several times as well.  In March 2013 the check engine light came on and I took it to Subaru to be checked. I was told it was caused by a misfire and they reset the on-board computer. I drove it several days and then the light came back on. By the time I made it to Subaru the light went out by itself, however the code was still coming up as a misfire. I commute 130 miles each day to work and felt with 207,370 miles on a car that has served me well, it was time to buy another (Yep, I enjoyed this car so much, I bought a new 2014 Subaru Forester again). So where does this leave you the potential buyer? You will be buying a car that has been taken care of and properly routinely serviced. However, it does require some attention and is being sold "as-is" with the following known facts:

In need of service:
  • The front bumper is misaligned slightly from hitting a deer while going about 25 mph. The deer got up and ran away; however, left a dimple on the front bumper, on the passenger side. The dimple poped itself out over the summer, but there is a small gap to where the bumper fits next to the passenger front panel (see photo).
  • The trip meter is functional but will not reset zero.
  • The front driver's seat has the edge of the leather worn on the drivers side and has cracked.
  • The driver's side floor mat has a hole from wear, also the carpet under the mat is worn with a hole.
  • There is one fog light in the front that needs replacing accessible from under the car (these seems to go out every couple of years).
  • The check engine light has come on about four times, it is currently off (see pictures). This will need to be serviced for inspection.
  • The front of the hood has some chips from constant highway driving.
  • The mudflap on the passenger rear tire has a rub mark wear a car rubbed against it (no body damaged occurred).
Maintenance History:
  • Oil and filter routinely change every 3,000 miles.
  • Differential and transmission fluid changed every couple of years.
  • May 19, 2012 Windshield was replaced. (these cars are rock magnets on the highway).
  • January 13, 2011 Timing belt and two timing valves were replaced because of rough idle.
  • July 23, 2012 The clutch, flywheel, pressure plate, and bearings were replace at 185,000 mile.
  • April 2013 was retired and is stored inside my garage.
Condition and Features:
  • 6 Disc factory CD Player
  • Heated front seats.
  • Rearview mirror dims and has built-in compass.
  • Fog Lights
  • Air condition works great!
  • Good tires and brakes all the way around (see photos)
  • Aluminum Alloy Rims in good condition.
  • Newly replaced windshield
  • Newly replace timing belt, and gaskets.
  • Newly replace clutch, flywheel, pressure plate and bearing.
  • Start right up and runs very good.
Conclusion:
I was the one and only owner of this car. It has been taken care of properly and had all its routine services performed. I have many receipts to show all work performed. The car has been in  minor accidents and each were reported to my insurance agent. The car had never suffered any major body or frame damage nor has it required me to have any bodywork done to it. Many of the miles driven on this car were highway miles, This car does need service to fix the intermittent check engine light.  The car vin IS: JF1SG69674G763747 (see photo) and it is currently being stored inside my garage.

Subaru recalling 32K Imprezas for potential airbag fault

Wed, Jul 15 2015

Following a preliminary evaluation by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in April 2015, Subaru is recalling 32,400 examples of the 2012 Impreza sedan and hatchback to repair the Occupant Detection System. The affected vehicles have production dates between April 21, 2011, and February 16, 2012. However, the WRX and STI are excluded from this campaign because they use a different part. The Impreza's problem concerns the front passenger seat's Occupant Detection System. In these models, the part uses capacitance to determine if someone is present and activates the airbag. According to the documents submitted to NHTSA (as a PDF), if the person sitting there uses a device plugged into the accessory outlet or touches an electrically grounded part like the metal seat adjuster, the ODS recognizes an increase in capacitance. It can then deactivate the airbag. Obviously, this could be a hazard in a crash, but there would be a warning light showing the safety device as off. To solve the problem, dealers will install a modified Occupant Control Unit. The initial investigation was prompted after 26 complaints to NHTSA about the ODS not working properly. In 2012, Subaru also issued a technical service bulletin that attempted to repair the issue. SUMMARY: Subaru of America, Inc. (Subaru) is recalling certain 2012 model year Subaru Impreza 4-Door and Station Wagon vehicles (except WRX/STI models) manufactured April 21, 2011, to February 16, 2012. In the affected vehicles, the Occupant Detection System (ODS) may deactivate if a front seat passenger operates a device that is plugged into the power outlet such as a music player or cell phone, or touches a metal part of the vehicle such as the forward/rearward seat adjuster lever. CONSEQUENCE: If the ODS deactivates, the front passenger air bag will be turned off and the front passenger air bag will not deploy in the event of a crash, increasing the risk of injury to the seat occupant. REMEDY: Subaru will notify owners, and dealers will replace the Occupant Control Unit with a modified one, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule.

2019 Subaru Forester Drivers' Notes Review | Space with a view

Fri, Dec 21 2018

The Subaru Forester, launching in the 1990s, is one of the earliest crossover models, blending SUV design and capability with car-like handling and refinement. For 2019, the Forester was completely redesigned, though it might be hard to tell. The styling is conservatively updated, and the boxy, upright design people seem to like it kept as untouched as possible. One of the bigger changes is the under-the-hood offerings. The 250-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter flat-4 has been dropped completely. Also, the standard 2.5-liter naturally aspirated flat-4 no longer offers a manual transmission option. On the upside, power has increased from 170 horsepower to 182, and torque increases from 174 pound-feet to 176. Editor-in-Chief Greg Migliore: I spent a couple of nights in the 2019 Forester and I generally liked it. The new gen feels fresher, without overt changes. The front end looks great. All of the sharp design lines, the now-standard LED headlights and the prominent grille work together to make a statement. Subaru, Ford and plenty of others, all seem to have taken a page from Audi's playbook of using piercing headlights and a simple yet sporty silhouette. It works. The back is not as good. The last Forester looked cleaner. This one looks like a Honda CR-V knock-off. It's tough to make rear styling in a crossover great, but the Forester went in the wrong direction. Overall, though, it's a good looking machine, stem to almost stern. Inside, the visibility is outstanding. The pillars are relatively thin and the seats are mounted up rather high. You can see out of this thing in all directions. The Forester has always had a good greenhouse feel, so I'm glad that continues. Inside is more of a mixed bag. The cabin pieces and shapes are a little cheap and odd. This one, done up in almost all black with some leather, is decent, but I'd prefer a simpler aesthetic. The boxer four is fine. It works hard to build speed, but it channels mid-range power and blasts by slower moving traffic. The Forester rides better than ever, thanks in part to Subaru's new global platform. Steering is a little light in a good way, the brakes have a solid grab and in general, I like driving the Forester. I'm more of an Outback guy, but Subaru has fortified the Forester in enough ways to keep it competitive. This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Subaru broke its own Isle of Man record with a 550-hp WRX STI

Tue, Jun 7 2016

Well, they did it. Subaru of America, Prodrive, and driver Mark Higgins set out to break their own record on the Isle of Man's Snaefell Mountain Course, and the attempt was a success. Higgins covered the 37-mile course in the 2016 WRX STI Time Attack car in 17 minutes, 35 seconds. That's an average speed of 128.73 mph. Average. In a car. Higgins set the previous record, 19:26 at 116.47 mph, in a more-stock STI. He and Subaru of America have been bringing cars to the site of the motorcycle race for years now, setting automotive records as all along, but this one is going to be pretty tough to top. Subaru Prodrive Isle of Man View 4 Photos It comes pretty close to the overall lap record for the course, which was set over the weekend by Michael Dunlop. The rider set a 16-minute, 58.254-second lap in the RST Superbike TT, averaging about 133 mph. The fact the Subaru comes so close to the best bike time is pretty amazing. This year's Isle of Man TT weekend was marked by the deaths of two riders. Fatalities are a regular occurrence at the historic race around the island, but it continues to be held year after year with hundreds of participants.
