2005 Suburu Baja Turbo Low Mileage, Rust Free Southern Car Turbocharged, Intercooled, Fuel injected, 2.5 L Double Overhead Cam, 5 speed, All Wheel Drive We bought this car this past spring because my Wife HAD to have it! She has horses, and felt it would be perfect. Problem is, she is in her 50's, and has developed a problem with her leg that makes using the clutch "un-comfortable" so we are selling the car.... We purchased the car from a Body Shop / Rebuilder in Arkansas, who had been driving the car for several months, after he repaired it. The previous owners were retired, and towed the car behind their RV. I was told the car was being towed by the RV and somehow got swiped in a turn, and the front fender, Lower "A Arm", front door skin and rear door skin got damaged. Not bad damage I was told, and a easy fix, but the Title is now branded "Rebuilt" but should be legal in any state. The car has NEVER seen salt. Even this winter, it has been stored inside (thinking my wife may begin driving it again, we parked it in the shop) So the body is near perfect condition with ZERO rust. The car drives like new, (and is FAST) Not being sure of past maintenance, we did a "full Service" on the Car- The miles on the Odometer are 30K, but the Car Fax listed them at 60K, so we were not sure. The radiator hoses were replaced, new coolant, NEW TIMING BELT with new water pump and cam belt tensioner, new serpentine belt, and new spark plugs were done. New oil, and filter. Basically, all maintenance was done, so we "knew were we are" with the car. We have receipts for these items, but the point is, it is ready for many miles of use! The parts that came off were all in very good condition, but my wife wanted to make sure she was not stranded, so everything was done to be safe. We did NOT detail this car to take the pictures (It was Zero degrees outside) so any spots you see are likely dirt (or snow/ice). The only significant flaws in the car are the Front Passenger door panel, and to a lesser amount, the Rear Passenger Door Panel. This was caused by my dog. My dog (he is in some of the pictures) had to have his head out the window, and his claws scratched the vinyl along the top of the door inside panel. We have had Seat covers on the car, front and back, the entire time we have had the car (taken off for the pictures) We drove the car this summer and fall, and put about 6,000 trouble free miles on it. My wife hauled a few plants in the bed, and some horse feed, so it is a little dirty. It does have the "Blue Ox" tow bar connection set up on the front of the car, and a Class 2 hitch on back. I would not be afraid to let my wife drive the car cross country with no worries, if she wanted Call 815-357-3292. Car is for sale locally at Seneca IL 61360, it will remain for sale until reserve is met, and auction may be canceled. Once Reserve is met, Ebay auction WILL NOT be canceled. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Below is some information about the 2005 Subaru Baja Turbo I got off the internet. I think if you are looking at these, you know these were only built for 3 years, and you how special this car was, and this one has all the bells and whistles! The Baja is a capable performer on rough roads, and its open bed lends it a rugged, outdoorsy, active feel. Turbo is fast and fun. AWD performance is stellar, and the handling is easy and smooth. The Subaru Baja is, generally speaking, a car-based crew-cab pickup truck. Based on the 2000-2004 Subaru Outback, it shares the same 104.3-inch wheelbase, but is 6 inches longer in rear overhang. The Baja has seating accommodations for four full-size adults. But instead of a conventional trunk or the glassed-in storage box of a wagon, the Baja substitutes the cargo box of a pickup truck. Subaru figures that the Baja appeals to those wanting utility without the harsh ride and poor fuel economy that often come with a truck-based vehicle. Should you think that the Baja is just a remake of the El Camino, Subaru has added some features that make the cargo box even more useful. Most importantly, the Baja's cargo bed can be extended by using the "Switchback" feature, similar to the Midgate design found on the Avalanche. The front of the bed along with the rear seat back fold forward into the rear seating area, expanding the usable length of the bed from 41.5 to 60 inches. The Baja is relatively enjoyable to drive thanks to its responsive suspension and steering, acceleration is good with the turbocharged version of that engine, good for 210 hp. The Baja Turbo still isn't a performance car any more than it's suited for serious towing and hauling, but it is peppy in traffic. It's for those who frequent Home Depot as a hobby, picking up a new ficus and trellis instead of drywall and furniture. It's great at transporting bulky sports equipment, such as a surfboard or skis, but not necessarily great for moms picking up kids and the groceries during a rainstorm. The Subaru Baja is for for those who need about half the open-bed cargo utility of a truck as well as a vehicle that rides like a car, the Baja is a reasonable choice. Body Styles, Trim Levels, and Options The Baja starts you out with 16-inch alloy wheels; fog lights; air conditioning; a CD player; cruise control; a moon roof; power windows, locks and mirrors; and keyless entry. Step up to the Baja Turbo and you get a more powerful turbocharged engine along with an upgraded six-speaker audio system with an in-dash CD changer. This model has the optional tubular bed extender. The Baja Turbo boasts a turbocharged version that produces 210 hp and 235 lb-ft of twist. A five-speed manual transmission is standard; a four-speed automatic is optional. All Subaru vehicles sold in the United States come with standard all-wheel drive, and the Baja is no exception. This Subaru can carry a maximum payload of 1,050 pounds, and has a 2,400-pound towing capacity. This is about half of what a typical compact pickup can pull, but it's enough to easily accommodate a personal watercraft or a couple of motorcycles. Safety The Subaru Baja comes standard with four-wheel antilock disc brakes and pre-tensioners and load limiters for the front seat belts. Interior Design and Special Features The Baja's cargo box is smaller than the beds of traditional compact pickups, but this car-based pickup does offer a handsome interior that scores high marks for style, comfort and ergonomics. Utility is maximized via the Switchback feature; to use, flip up the bottom cushion of the rear seat, fold the rear seat back forward and fold the trapdoor flat into the rear seat. The optional tailgate extender increases cargo bed length to 75 inches. Driving Impressions Those looking for a little excitement would be advised to check out the Baja Turbo model, which has ample power for just about any situation. The Subaru Baja has a fully independent suspension and rides much more like a car than a truck. It has a comfortable ride around town and never feels unstable when going around corners. Heavy-duty suspension components and 8.2 inches of ground clearance allow it to tackle rutted dirt roads and sandy washes without a problem. Honda CR-V vs. Subaru Forester Cupholder Test | King of cups

Fri, May 15 2020

When I got our long-term Subaru Forester back from the shop to fix a mysterious source of moisture, I also happened to have a Honda CR-V Hybrid taking up temporary residence in my driveway. After testing out my large son's car seat in each to these two right-sized vehicles, I moved on to the examine their capacity for the second-most-precious cargo they could carry: beverages.  I counted eight cupholders in each of these cars, which amounts to two per outboard passenger. Two front cupholders on the center console, one in each front door, one in each rear door, and two in the center armrest that folds down in each rear row. That's not Subaru Ascent levels of beverage storage (19 cupholders!), but it should be plenty to keep a family hydrated on a short-to-medium drive. Though these two appear to be equal in quantity, let's take a closer look and see if they're equal in quality, too. I brought along a Klean Kanteen bottle that's about the same size as most other brand of metal water bottles folks carry around, a big Corkcicle 24-ounce insulated tumbler, a standard 12-ounce soda can, and a skinny, 7.5-ounce soda can that's the same width as a lot of canned energy drinks. As a bonus, I — the man known to Twitter as "that one dude with the Nalgene bottle" — brought my trusty 32-ounce Nalgene to see if it fits anywhere. Let's start with the spots we use the most. I like the placement of the CR-V's front cupholders for their easy reach, but beverages block the wireless charging pad (only available on the Touring trim and as Riswick discovered, it has issues). In the Forester they're further back, out of the way of the center stack, but a somewhat awkward angle for retrieval. Now let's fill 'em up, starting with the Honda. As expected, there's plenty of room for the cans, but perhaps too much room. They both wobble around quite a bit in there. The bottle and cup fit much more securely, but the water bottle rattles around a bit in there. The Corkcicle cup is going nowhere. In the Forester, the little rubber doodads inside the cupholder do a much better job of holding even the smaller can in place. A perfect fit! As for the reusables, the Corkcicle cup is snug, while the bottle has a little bit of wiggle room, though not quite as much as in the CR-V. OK, let's try the front door pockets. In the CR-V, the cans are a bit loose, but the purple Klean Kanteen fits as though the pocket were designed for it. The mighty Corkcicle is too big to fit securely.

Subaru WRX S4 gets big power bump in Japan

Mon, 25 Aug 2014

A month after originally teasing it, Subaru is finally unveiling its WRX S4 model for Japan. It's a bit more than just a plush take on the sport sedan, because Subaru is fitting a more powerful version of the 2.0-liter, turbocharged boxer four-cylinder engine than we get on these shores.
The company says that S4 stands for "'Sports performance', 'Safety performance', 'Smart driving' and 'Sophisticated feel," and it certainly looks like this Rex ticks all of those boxes. The most surprising feature is the Japanese model's 2.0-liter turbo engine boasting 296 horsepower (221 kilowatts) and 295 pound-feet (400 Newton-meters) of torque in this application. That's quite a healthy upgrade over the 268 hp and 258 lb-ft that Americans get in the standard WRX, and it's even nipping at the heels of the 305 hp and 290 lb-ft from the STI with a 2.5-liter mill that we get over here.
While extra power is always welcome, enthusiasts might not be so thrilled that Subaru's Sport Lineartronic Continuously Variable Transmission is the sedan's only available gearbox. However, it offers a simulated eight-speed shifting mode when drivers notch the car into Sport# driving mode. Of course, the S4 also packs Subie's trademark all-wheel drive with Vehicle Dynamics Control and Active Torque Vectoring as standard.

2018 Subaru WRX STI Type RA Drivers' Notes Review | Fun for the few

Mon, Sep 17 2018

The 2018 Subaru WRX STI Type RA is a limited-edition version of the Japanese automaker's iconic rally-derived sports coupe. Only 500 units are headed to America, and, with a price tag just shy of $50,000, every single one is likely to be scooped up by true Subaru enthusiasts. The RA moniker stands for record attempt. The STI lapped the Nurburgring in fewer than seven minutes. The Type RA differs from the regular model in a few ways, most notably the lightweight and adjustable carbon-fiber rear wing. The car also uses carbon fiber on the roof to lower the center-of-gravity. Other changes include a 5-horsepower bump, 19-inch BBS wheels, Bilstein dampers and a few changes to interior and exterior trim. It doesn't transform so much as refine an already hot product. Editor-in-Chief Greg Migliore: Rock-solid chassis. Hair-trigger clutch. Tight chassis. Heavy steering. Black coffee. No need for solid foods. This was my lunch on a gray Thursday as I whipped up and down Woodward Avenue in the Subaru WRX STI Type RA. It's a riot. This thing sounds like a hooligan and most of the time behaves like one, too. I spent a lot of time in second and third gears with the revs around 5,000, just because. Need to slow things down? The brakes are spot-on, with quick bite and little pedal travel. The seats are supportive and nicely bolstered. It's a little harsh at lower speeds — something I noticed as I cruised through the verdant Cranbrook campus in metro Detroit. So yeah, I like the STI. This one, done up in RA trim, is a limited-edition model with a carbon wing and roof. It's lighter and has five more horsepower. If you love the STI and the RA (for Record Attempt) has meaning to you, sure, try to get one of these unicorns. Only 500 will be made and they are not cheap — ours is 50 grand. Otherwise, just buy a regular STI. Or if it were me, a WRX. Still, I can see the allure of this rare Subaru. Parting shot: this car also reminds me how much fun sedans are. Senior Editor, Green, John Beltz Snyder: The Subaru STI is a riot to drive, and as a recently reformed WRX owner, it feels familiar every time I get in it. Such is the case with the Type RA, which I also had the pleasure of driving at the track at Thermal Club in California. It the real world, it's still fun. But overall, I'd not spend the extra money for the Type RA.
