My sister in law asked me to find her a nice safe car for very little money.  I found this one for her.  I chose it over all the other Saab 9000s because the interior was much better than the others I looked at, it remains in this condition.  The seats are nice leather in good shape by my standards and considering the age of the car, please look at the photos.  Additionally, the person we got it from told us that everything had been fixed on it and it had signs of maintenance.  It has been about 2 years since and my sister in law fixed all the remaining known problems and recently added new tires.  Overall, this car is in good shape, please look at the photos.

Please keep in mind that this is a 17 year old car.  If you want perfect, please buy a new car.  I feel it is better than most of this vintage (please look at the pictures to make your own assessment.  When you drive this car, it feels solid and has good power.  We just checked the oil at the end of 5000 miles and the oil still looks clean!  I have heard of these engines going 400,000 when maintained.

She uses this car every day.  There are only four issues on the negative side that we know about.  The first is that there is an after market radio in it that very rarely works.  The second is that there is a tooth missing or compromised in either the starter motor or the flywheel because every other start it makes this clurrunggg noise when you start it.  But, it always starts.  It is an annoying issue that my mechanic suggests we ignore.  Third, the driver side heated seat no longer works.  Finally the check engine light is on, but our mechanic checked it out and said that it is a false reading and that they are too sensitive.  Our mechanic is famous on the west coast for Saabs and has taken care of all of our Saabs.  He told us that it was a good car and we should not sell it.  As this car is used every day and is 17 years old, another small issue may come up during this auction, but there are really no major concerns at this time.

My sister in law came into some money recently.  She wants a newer car and asked me to sell this one.

I have tried my best to describe this car as it is.  If you have any questions please ask them before the end of the auction.  If you live near Corvallis Oregon and would like to see the car please send me a way to contact you and you can come see the car either in Corvallis or Coos Bay (it goes back and forth for work a lot).

$500 due within 24 hours of the end of the auction.

Happy Bidding.

First test drive shows promise of Saab 9-3 EV

Tue, Sep 16 2014

We can't read Swedish, so when it comes to a first-drive review of a Saab 9-3 electric-vehicle prototype, we'll trust Inside EVs' translation of a write-up from Swedish automotive publication Elbilen i Sverige. And it's a decent one. The write-up, that is. The translation, too, we hope. Taken to the test track, the Saab was found to be quieter than a Tesla Model S and had the stability commensurate for a car that tipped the scales at about 4,000 pounds. The sedan accelerated from 0 to 62 miles per hour in 10 seconds, though the goal is to bring that time down to 8.5 seconds. The prototype also uses a 37-kWh prototype battery made by China-based Kai Johan Jiang Annual National Modern Energy Holdings that should be good for over 180 miles (and there's room for a bigger pack in the car, apparently). The 9-3's electric motor will be able to deliver 200 horsepower but, for testing purposes, it was limited to about 140 horsepower. The overall impression was that the car is not yet ready for prime time, but has a lot of promise. When prototype becomes production is the real question, given the financial condition of Saab parent National Electric Vehicle Sweden (NEVS). The company acquired the brand in 2012 and started making cars at Saab's Trollhattan plant in Sweden last year, but production stopped in May because of cash-flow issues. Late last month, Swedish courts denied NEVS protection from its creditors, so the company is now looking to restructure.

Junkyard Gem: 1988 Saab 900

Tue, Nov 29 2016

Saab had a cult following in North America going back to the two-stroke Saab 96, but it wasn't until the 900 made its debut for the 1978 model year that the marque started to be considered a mainstream – if still a bit odd – brand here. Based on the venerable 99 but seeming a lot more modern, the 900 sold well to those who wanted to drive something sensibly Scandinavian but didn't want the stodginess of a Volvo. These cars were especially popular in Colorado, and I found this high-mile-but-solid '88 in a Denver self-service wrecking yard. Nearly made it to 300,000 miles, but it never got the chance. The key is still in the console-mounted ignition switch, and the steel lanyard indicates that this car went to the wrecking yard via an insurance-company or dealership-trade-in auction. Since the car has no major body damage, that means that its final owner traded it in – reluctantly, we hope – on another car, and nobody was willing to bid over scrap value for the elderly Swede at auction. Most such auctions have an arrangement with a local wrecking yard to take all the unsold cars for a set price, and that's what we can assume happened to this car. Chances are that it was still in running condition when it showed up here. You could get a 1988 Saab 900 with a three-speed Borg-Warner automatic transmission, but I can't recall having ever seen one so equipped. Most Saab 900 buyers insisted on manuals. The engine in this car is a slant-four based on the same Triumph engine used in the Triumph TR7. By the 1980s, Saab had made sufficient improvements to the design that it was several orders of magnitude more reliable than its British Leyland ancestors. This one made 110 horses, which did an acceptable job of moving the car's 2,695 pounds. This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Manage Settings. Even Ferrari swept up in latest Takata recall expansion

Fri, May 27 2016

The scope of Takata's deadly airbag problems continues to widen. Eight manufacturers announced recalls Friday that affect more than 12 million vehicles, according to documents filed with federal regulators. The automakers include Honda, which is recalling 4.5 million units, Fiat Chrysler with 4.3 million, Toyota with 1.65 million, and Subaru, which is recalling almost 400,000. Some of these cars include the Saab 9-2x and Pontiac Vibe that Toyota and Subaru made for General Motors. Mazda will recall 730,000 vehicles and Nissan has 400,000 affected units. The smallest numbers were posted by Mitsubishi, with 38,000 Lancers manufactured from 2006 to 2007, and as a noteworthy high-end manufacturer, Ferrari is calling back 2,800 vehicles. These are all US-market cars. Beyond America, the Japanese Transport Ministry has announced seven million additional vehicles will be recalled, which means 19.6 million vehicles across the globe are affected by recalls announced. The defects have been traced to an insufficiently manufactured airbag inflator, which lacks a drying agent that would prevent the inflators from deteriorating over time. Thirteen deaths have been linked to the faulty airbags, which have become unstable and are prone to exploding and showering vehicle occupants with lethal amounts of metal shrapnel. A private equity firm, KKR & Co., has been named in a possible buyout of the struggling Takata.
