2011 SAAB 9-5 Turbo Biopower
Premium Package with Navigation - Many Options
- $46,655 When New
Beautiful Granite Gray over Jet Black Leather Interior - One Owner (Me)
Just Over 7,500 Miles From New - Please Wait for All Photos to Load!
Offered here is my immaculate, freshly-detailed
2011 9-5 Turbo Biopower - the Biopower denotes that the 220bhp 2 Litre Turbo
engine runs just as happily (if not more) on E85 as it does on Premium Unleaded.
I purchased the car from a friend of mine last year - he is one of the last
hold-out SAAB dealers still looking for new and nearly-new inventory around
the USA; he had found this car still in the inventory of a former SAAB dealer
in the midwest just a week prior to my acquisition of it last spring. Since
I thought it might be one of the last new (45 miles on the clock on delivery)
9-5s with Premium and NAV in a pretty color, I bought it on the spot.
Over the last year, I have not used the car
as much as I thought I would, and as such it has just over 7,500 careful
miles. We took it up to the SAAB Owners Convention in upstate New York last
summer where it and a small handful of other 9-5s were a big hit. Other
than that, I've used it quite sparingly.
One of the nicest features of the 2011 9-5 is
the panoramic sunroof, a feature not found on the first 9-5s in 2010.
The brilliant rear light treatment is no less
attractive than the front...
... arguably one of the best rear ends on a
production car in recent memory!
The Granite Gray metallic hue is an interesting
one, in certain lights it appears quite blue.
The car is absolutely straight and as-new -
not so much as a door ding.
All four wheels are unmarked.
The panoramic roof doesn't just look good closed,
but the front portion opens up and out, the windscreen that pops up eliminates
all wind noise.
If you don't want the roof open but want to
enjoy the sunshine, there's plenty of it here.
Or with the touch of a button, close the shade.
The interior is very inviting and full of interesting
features - all four windows go completely up or down at the touch of a button
(one-touch).
The mirrors also fold in for tight parking spaces.
If you're already outside the car, you can hold the lock button on the fob
and it will do it that way as well.
The interior is likewise as-new - seats, dash
and other interior appointments are all in lovely condition. This car does
not have the heads-up display, for which new windshields are still not and
may never be available again.
The center of the speedometer has multiple screens
that can change with the controls on the left stalk. The steering wheel
controls are for the cruise control (left) and the audio, hands-free phone
and voice commands.
A shot of the tire pressure monitoring screen.
If E85 fuel is used, this screen will display
the percentage of E85 in the tank against the E0/E10 (pump fuel).
Navigation was a rare option on these cars.
The speedometer screen also has a Navigation quick reference when a course
is plotted. Note also the dual heated seats, dual-zone climate control et.c.
below.
The XM radio subscription is paid up for a while!
A nice thing to have.
The radio also has an on-board hard drive with
storage for lots of MP3s as seen here. There are also USB and 1/8"
Aux inputs in the center cubby.
As you would expect from a 7,500 mile car, the
seats are as-new. Both front seats have 8-way power and adjustable lumbar
support. The central armrest is adjusted forward in this photo.
Inside on the right side...
Another shot of the dash...
The glovebox is climate controlled (see switch
at top right) and on a hot day can serve as a refrigerator of a sort by
sliding the switch.
Both transponder keys have fresh batteries.
The car has remote start as you see here.
Original paperwork as seen here is comprehensive,
including the window sticker.
Note the $2,395 Navigation option!
Tidy on this side as well.
Under the center armrest, a small compartment...
As well as a deep one with the USB and 1/8"
jacks. Note also the central cupholder.
Let's take a look in the back!
The back seat offers a lot of legroom and the
same comfort as the front. The rear seats fold down 60/40 with ease and
offer an amazing amount of cargo space.
In the other side...
More of the same.
\
The overhead panel features a 3 button Homelink
garage door opener as well as switches for the sunroof and sun-shade. Both
of these offer one-touch operation like the power windows.
The trunk compartment is very spacious with
the back seats up and offers a tremendous amount of cargo room with them
down. In addition, there is also a pass-through door for skis or other long
items that go through where the armrest is without lowering the seats.
The engine compartment is as clean as the day
I took delivery. Park Ave did an synthetic oil service on the car about
3,000 miles ago. Oil Life Remaining per the instrument cluster indicates
77%.
payment/warranty/shipping
Full payment is expected within seven days of
auction close unless
cleared with me in advance. I cannot extend a loan to you as I am not
a financial institution, so if you need a loan, please contact a bank or
a loan company that specializes in automobile loans. If you need a loan,
please don't bid before you have been approved for financing. Payment options
include cash, cleared wire transfer or bank cheque in my account or a loan
cheque, again, cleared in my account in the timeframe specified.
While the warranty mentioned on the above-pictured
window sticker is not valid (all warranties for 2010-2011 Saabs were voided
with the bankruptcy), I may be able to offer you the option of a SAAB Secure
Warranty through my experienced former Saab dealer friend at an additional
charge. Unlike a generic aftermarket warranty available from anyone, these
are underwritten by Saab Parts North America and their financial partner.
These warranties are honored by former Saab dealerships and other authorized
service points as well as SPNA. I will put you in touch with him should
you win the car and have interest in one of these. They are quite reasonable
if this concerns you. I did not opt for one as I happen to think that these
cars are quite bulletproof and according to numerous colleagues and friends
who maintain many of these have not had major failures to necessitate a
warranty.
Pickup in person or shipping should occur within
fourteen days of auction close unless
cleared with me in advance. I'm more than happy to refer you to both
open and enclosed professional automotive shippers that I use regularly
in my business but will not make the arrangements for you as this has caused
confusion in the past.
I reserve the right to add a few miles to the
car during the listing as I may use it a few times, offer a test-drive,
et.c.
(While I am an automobile dealer and broker
and you may have seen my ads before, this car is my own and I am selling
it as a private person. There are no additional fees or paperwork, you will
be buying this car from me directly.)

Saab's sad saga is full of might-have-beens and missed opportunities. As the 21st century dawned, it became clear that the Saab brand could not survive without an SUV in its lineup. In 2005, the 9-2X, a badge-engineered Subaru Impreza Outback Sport, was rushed into production (GM being a part-owner of Subaru parent company Fuji Heavy Industries at the time). That same year same GM also put a new nose on the distinctly mediocre Chevrolet TrailBlazer and peddle that as the Saab 9-7X. The last of the GM-based Saab SUVs was the 9-4X, which was mechanically twinned with the second-generation Cadillac SRX and built alongside it in Mexico. By the time the model was introduced for 2011, GM had already off-loaded Saab. But the new ownership would be short-lived, and production of the 9-4X ended after only a handful of 2012 models had rolled down the line. It's believed that a total of only 803 9-4Xs were built, of which 622 were sold in the United States, which explains why you haven't seen one lately. Or, perhaps, ever. But now you can buy one, as this 2011 example is available right now on Cars & Bids. This is a top-spec Aero version, which means it gets a turbocharged 2.8-liter V6 and the Saab-developed X-drive all-wheel drive, rather than the naturally aspirated 3.0-liter V6 in the base and Premium trims. That gives you 300 horsepower and 265 lb-ft of torque, although this one sports a VTuner Stage 0 tune, so it could have more. With five days still to go, bidding stands at $8,500. For the Saab fans out there, don't let this be another missed opportunity. Related Video: Saab 9-4X concept introduced at Detroit Auto Show

"Smack." That's the sound of Spyker's process server dropping a big ol' pile of legal documents on the doorstep of The Renaissance Center, home of General Motors - or wherever GM's attorneys live during business hours. Contained therein is a Complaint, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan and demanding a jury trial, that seeks $3 billion in damages due to "the unlawful actions GM took to avoid competition with Saab Automobile in the Chinese market." Spyker accuses GM of "tortiously interfering" with Saab's business relationship with Chinese automaker Zhejiang Youngman Lotus Automobile (Youngman), actions that Spyker CEO Victor Muller (above) said "deliberately drove Saab Automobile into bankruptcy."
(From Wikipedia: "Tortious interference, also known as intentional interference with contractual relations, in the common law of torts, occurs when a person intentionally damages the plaintiff's contractual or other business relationships.")
The interference in question specifically refers to the very last potential deal, called the Framework Agreement, that Spyker worked out with Youngman. With lots of GM engineering embedded into the 9-4X and 9-5, The General had the right to approve any Saab partnership that would involve the transfer of GM intellectual property. Spyker had been rebuffed over every previous deal with a Chinese firm, including two bids by Youngman, due to GM concerns over its IP getting into Chinese hands and having to face Chinese-market competitors using its technology. The Complaint alleges that the Framework Agreement would have put a firewall around all GM IP - Youngman would only work on Saab's Phoenix platform, said to be just about free of GM tech, and would have no access to 9-3, 9-4X or 9-5 technology until after Saab ceased all ties to GM.

If you're one of the small cadre of Saab drivers, first of all, kudos to you. Because as Top Gear pointed out, Saab drivers are among the most intellectual drivers out there. Secondly, we've got good news for you, because the 9-3 has officially resumed production at the Trollhättan plant in Sweden.
For those of you who may not have followed the story, a quick refresher: Founded in 1947, Saab Automobile AB was an independent automaker until 1989 when General Motors began the decade-long process acquiring it. Unable to make it profitable, GM sold Saab to Spyker in 2010, but that Dutch automaker proved unable to make a go of it, either, and finally shut it down a year later. Much of Saab's assets were acquired by National Electric Vehicle Sweden, which in turn is partially owned by the Chinese city of Qingdao, which pledged to get production back online by the end of the year.
NEVS has apparently made good on its promise, bringing 600 workers back to the factory to resume production of the 9-3 much as it was when a workforce of 3,500 labored on it and its stablemates prior to the bankruptcy. The reborn 9-3 will be sold in Sweden and in China, with an electric version to bring some other updates sometime next year.
