Condition:  Good except transmission problem.  The car is in "limp home mode" due to a transmission issue.  I took the car to a Saab mechanic who told me that there was an internal issue and that I should get a used/new transmission.  My second opinion was from an AAMCO mechanic who told me that there was an internal electrical issue and that they can rebuild the transmission.  I can drive the car using the shift like a manual transmission (as the Saab book said to do), start out in L, then shift into 3, then shift into 4, finally shifting into D.  The car actually runs really good over 45MPH.  I can get up to 75MPH without any problems.

The AC is currently not working.  The Saab mechanic told me that when the car goes into "Limp home mode" that non essential electrical items are shut down.  He said when the transmission is fixed and the car is out of "limp home mode" that the ac should work just fine.  I did check the freon levels and the levels are fine giving no indication of leaks.

The interior is grey, leather.  The leather is in very good condition.  The faux wood does have a faded look as well as some chipping by the gear shift.

Features: heated seats, power windows, power locks, sunroof, glove box can become an cooler, cd player (it had the multiple cd player in the rear but someone took that out), cassette player, alloy wheels, running day lights

History:  I do not know much about this vehicle's history.  I bought the car at the auto auction 2 weeks ago.  I had a body technician  check out the car and he said the front end was replaced.  He said that the title has a flag of salvage so that the owner probably junked the car given an accident to the front end (just speculation, not facts).  I found a car history report which indicated salvage as of 2009, however the car was driven and inspected as of 2012 and 2014 (evidence from receipts and inspection stickers).  My plan was to drive it however I was not banking on the transmission not working.  I do drive the vehicle but I would rather have it fixed so that I don't get stranded somewhere and since that is not in my budget right now I am just trying to sell it for what I paid for it.

Shipping and payment:  I accept Paypal for payment or a cashier's check.  Please remit $500.00 deposit via Paypal after 48 hrs of winning bid.  I am located in Hagerstown, MD so local pickup is appreciated.  If you are close by and would like me to drive the car to you please email me and we can chat about that possibility.

The car is being sold AS-IS.  If you have questions please ask me prior to bidding.  Thank you!

New owners of Saab don't get to use the name

Tue, Feb 2 2016

Saab won't be revived as a Chinese-backed electric car brand. Aerospace and defense company Saab AB has declined to let the new owners of the dormant automaker's old designs and factory use the name on new cars, Automotive News reports. It's a blow to fans of the Swedish brand, who hoped the name would be revived on new vehicles coming out of the same factory as models like the 99 Turbo. National Electric Vehicle Sweden, known as NEVS, bought major assets of the Saab operation in 2012 following former parent Spyker's decision to liquidate the company in December 2011. This not only included the Trollhattan assembly plant in Sweden, but the rights to the Saab 9-3 and the platform of its successor. NEVS built some new 9-3s using leftover parts and powered by the old 2.0-liter turbo engines, with the intent to raise money to produce new electric vehicles for Europe and China – and to use the Saab name. When General Motors bought all of Saab Automobile in 2000, it used the name under license from the Saab AB. That permission was then passed to Spyker in 2010 and later NEVS, albeit without the griffin logo. But when NEVS sought creditor protection in 2014, Saab AB revoked the naming rights. Following reorganization, NEVS in August announced a deal with Dongfeng Motor Corp. to develop a new lineup of electric vehicles, which was revealed in December to include five new models by 2018, some assembled in China by 2020 – the first of which being an EV version of the old 9-3. However, Saab AB told Automotive News that discussions have ended regarding the use of the Saab name on these vehicles. NEVS owner Kai Johan Jiang told a Swedish radio station the company will find a new name to market the cars under when they go on sale. It's similar to what happened to SAIC when it purchased vehicle technology from bankrupt British carmaker MG Rover. While it had the tooling to essentially make the Rover 75, the brand name at the time belonged to BMW and barred SAIC from using it, so the Roewe brand was created in China. It's unclear why talks broke down and also where NEVS will get a new name (there aren't nicer ways to spell Saab, and it was originally an acronym, anyway). Will Saab AB attach its name to another line of cars? Probably not. What it does mean, however, is that Saab fans have to cling tighter to their old cars now. Perhaps that's for the best. Saab to hire 200 engineers, might build gas cars with Mahindra

Thu, 14 Jun 2012

The brand formerly known as Saab is still intent on teaching The Little Engine That Could a few ticks about persistence. We say "formerly known" because it turns out that National Electric Vehicle Swedent (NEVS), the Sino-Japanese investment consortium that just bought the majority of Saab's assets, minus Saab Automobile Parts AB, may not actually own the rights to the Saab brand name. According to a report in Di.se via Saabs United, NEVS will need to negotiate with Scania and the Swedish aerospace and defense group, Saab AB, for the right to name its forthcoming electric car the Saab 9-3.
NEVS is hiring 200 engineers now to work on its electric car program, and reports are that it will hire more as it gets closer to the 2014 launch. It will be based on the current (read: ancient) 9-3, and we hope NEVS is succeeds in getting the naming rights, because the NEVS 9-3 just doesn't have the same ring. NEVS will likely target China as the model's main market.
However, it's rumors of their second negotiating ploy that we're really rooting for: to work with Mahinda & Mahindra, the Indian company once in the running for Saab's assets, develop a petrol-powered 9-3 on the next-generation Phoenix platform, based on Jason Castriota's design.

Spyker's $3B lawsuit against GM for blocking Saab sale thrown out

Tue, 11 Jun 2013

US District Judge Gershwin Drain has dismissed a $3-billion lawsuit Spyker filed against General Motors. In the suit, Spyker accused GM of attempting to bankrupt Saab after the US automaker had already sold the company to Spyker. GM in effect blocked the sale of Saab to China's Zhejiang Youngman Lotus Automobile Company by prohibiting the transfer of some of its intellectual property. But the court found that GM had a "contractual right" to approve or disapprove any change of ownership. Furthermore, Reuters reports Judge Drain said the contract between GM and Spyker "is clear, unambiguous and absolute" on the matter.
GM, meanwhile, says it is pleased with the ruling. Spyker CEO Victor Muller has not said whether or not his company will appeal the ruling. The Dutch automaker is expected to make a final decision once the court issues its written order on the case.
You can read the official Spyker press release about the court ruling below for more information.
