After the success of the Cloud and S series saloons, Rolls Royce wanted to introduce a new more modern up to date luxury saloon. Introduced on October 5, 1965, the Rolls Royce Silver Shadow and Bentley T-Series were unveiled at the Paris Salon Motor Show with rave reviews. The Silver Shadow was a limited production Saloon that used the familiar 6.75 litre V8 engine built by Rolls Royce. The new Silver Shadow was 3 and a half inches narrower and 7 inches shorter than the previous model but still managed to make more interior space for the passengers. The Silver Shadow II was redesigned for model year 1977 and ran until 1980 with just 8425 examples made worldwide. Many automobile journalists have said over the years that the Silver Shadow and T Series Saloons are amongst the best handling and most loveliest of the older generations of Rolls Royce and Bentley cars. 1978 Rolls Royce Silver Shadow II finished in a beautiful combination of Pearl white exterior respray with a Tan Connolly leather interior. This Silver Shadow left the Crewe production line in October of 1978 and was then invoiced to Rolls Royce North America.  This Rolls Royce has traveled a total of 70,550 miles from brand new and is on a clean and clear title.  The paint on the car is in beautiful condition showing very few flaws .The Pearl White paint looks very nice and free from any fade or sun spots. The body of the car is in excellent shape and free from any rust, dents, dings or corrosion. There are no signs of any prior accidents or damage anywhere. All of the chrome on the exterior of the car still shows beautifully and all of the light lenses and glass are all clear and free from any cracks or pitting. The interior has a lovely patina to it The lower front seats have been dyed to match. The original wool carpets are in beautiful shape and free from any stains or tears. All of the real wood veneer is still in great shape and with only a couple tiny hairline cracks on the front door rails. The wood still retains a beautiful dark red/brown color. All of the leather on the dashboard and headliner is still in beautiful condition, free from any discoloration or separating. All of the switchgear is in excellent condition . The car still retains its original radio which is still in working order. The dash lights, interior lights, headlights, taillights, reverse lights, side marker lights, turn signals, and license plate lights are all working. All of the electrical equipment is in proper working order as well, the AC is ice cold and the heat is blowing out warm. All of the power windows are in working order, the power door locks are working, the power seats are working and the power antenna is working. This Rolls Royce mechanically is in excellent condition; it starts right up and idles smoothly. It does not smoke on start up and the car shifts into gear with ease. It accelerates very smoothly and shifts through all of the gears without any hesitation. The brakes feel solid and smooth, and are free from any fade or grinding. The car has a slight vibration at 60MPH due to perhaps tires although the tread looks great. This Rolls Royce has always been serviced on time and in excellent running and driving condition. The car has all of its original owner’s manuals, warranty books, dealer books, emissions book, radio book and Rolls Royce case. This is an excellent opportunity to purchase a rare and stunning Rolls Royce Silver Shadow II

New Rolls-Royce Boat Tail shows off coachbuilding chops of the Phantom platform

Thu, May 27 2021

Rolls-Royce is flexing the coachbuilding muscles of its highly versatile new Phantom platform with this gorgeous Boat Tail commission. Rolls-Royce claims the build required the fabrication of more than 1,800 unique parts and 20 years of combined man-hours to complete.  Even by Rolls-Royce standards, this is pretty ambitious stuff. The commission was inspired by a 1932 Rolls-Royce Boat Tail, and like the original, it was inspired by, well, boats. Shocking, right? The trim elements both inside and out (Caleidolegno veneer, if you're curious) were designed to be reminiscent of the teak decking you'd see on a wooden yacht. "Today marks a seminal moment for the House of Rolls-Royce. We are proud to unveil Rolls-Royce Boat Tail to the world, and with it, the confirmation of coachbuilding as a permanent fixture within our future portfolio," said Rolls-Royce CEO Torsten Muller-Otvos in the Boat Tail announcement.  "We have formally re-established our Coachbuild department for those patrons who wish to go beyond the existing restraints, and explore the almost limitless possibilities this opens up for them," Muller-Otvos said previously. "We are able to offer our customers the opportunity to create a motor car in which every single element is hand-built to their precise individual requirements, as befits our status as a true luxury house." There are quite a few bespoke accessories as well, though apart from the full picnic service shown in some of the pics (there doesn't appear to be much of a trunk — sorry, boot), most of it was left out of the promotional materials. Most notably absent are the custom his-and-hers Bovet 1822 timepieces that were commissioned alongside the car. They can be either mounted in the dash or worn on the wrist (of course), but we see only a glimpse of one in the top-down image Rolls-Royce provided.

Rolls-Royce Spectre EV spy photos show us the interior

Tue, Aug 2 2022

Rolls-Royce has been testing its upcoming Spectre electric luxury coupe for a while now, and it's been wearing a camouflage wrap covered in marketing phrases. In both traditional spy photos and in manufacturer-provided ones, we've had a decent preview of the car. Now we finally get a look inside thanks to one of our spy photographers.  While some automakers have taken the opportunity to try bold new interior designs with their electric cars, Rolls-Royce seems to be staying the.course with the Spectre. The design is very traditional, with a tall, wide dashboard that doesn't stick out far from the windshield. The vents and controls look just like the ones in the current Phantom sedan. The steering wheel is very similar, but the upper spokes are now closer to 9 and 3. Perhaps Rolls-Royce designers felt it looked a little sportier. It does still have a column shifter, even as an electric car. The instrument cluster appears to be fully digital, though, which is one of the few less traditional aspects of the cabin. The Spectre will be built on the current Rolls-Royce architecture, which underpins all of the brand's models. It features loads of aluminum and will be the most aerodynamic Rolls-Royce yet with a coefficient of drag of 0.25. But specs such as power and range remain a secret. We should know more as we approach the car's launch date of late 2023. Related video: This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Manage Settings.

Could Rolls-Royce expand business with new models?

Mon, 12 Aug 2013

Rolls-Royce may be forced to expand its lineup beyond the über-luxury cars gobbled up by the ultra-wealthy jetset, as new competition in the form of the rumored, high-end Mercedes-Benz S-Class could take a slice of the luxury pie from the BMW-owned manufacturer.
Automotive News reports that this, along with the combination of BMW's unwillingness to move above the price-point set by the 7-Series and Bentley's expansion into the SUV realm, could force Rolls-Royce's hand. AN is arguing that, as unrealistic as it might sound, Rolls could develop a four-door crossover or shooting brake, but that any such plans are in the earliest of stages.
In the near term, the smallest Rolls-Royce, the Ghost, will get a refresh in 2014, while the sporty Wraith fastback will spawn a convertible variant by 2015. The big boy of the Rolls-Royce range, meanwhile, is due for a far more comprehensive re-do. The Phantom is expected to share a platform with the next-generation 7-Series in 2016. Advanced materials are expected to feature heavily, as Rolls-Royce seeks to trim body fat and improve fuel economy without compromising the performance or comfort expected of the brands' flagship model.
