The height of luxury once only for the privileged few now very affordable and highly collectable.  The Corniche 11 has always existed in the rarified world of the very wealthy and all have been maintained without regard to expense.  The major mechanical difference in the Corniche II, which was introduced in 1977, was rack-and-pinion steering, alloy and rubber bumpers replaced earlier chrome ones, an aluminum radiator an oil cooler and a bi-level air conditioning system. In 1981, the fixed-head coupe body style was discontinued, making the Corniche a convertible-only model. A special medallion was applied to the rear deck lid of the Corniche 11 when new.  In 1988 a new Corniche 11 was priced between $189.000 and $205,000.   Overall, Rolls-Royce built 1,234 Corniche II’s built between 1977-89, that is only about 102 cars  per year.  This is a stunning example of a 2 owner near flawless car, only 15,700 original  miles that still SMELLS NEW.  Books and records, body and interior are near perfect.  Finished in Acrylic White with Tan Magnolia hides and lambs wool overugs. #X22278.  Now on display at the home of “over the top cars” CHECKERED FLAG CLASSICS 7743 MONTEREY ST GILROY 408-847-8788, sold as-is, California buyers are responsible for sales tax and license fees.

Rolls-Royce celebrates Maharajas with special Phantom DHC

Fri, 14 Nov 2014

A century ago, the princes and maharajas of India shared a relationship with Rolls-Royce that spanned five decades and saw the nobility on the subcontinent commissioning over 840 unique vehicles from the stoic marque. It's that golden age that Rolls-Royce celebrates with the debut of this one-of-a-kind luxury cabriolet.
Based on the Phantom Drophead Coupe, this unique Maharaja edition is distinguished by such special touches as Carrara White paint embellished with a peacock motif, emerald green coachline, a deep green top (hood in UK terminology), light creme leather interior with green accents, marquetry inlays and custom seashell embroidery.
Said to be two years in the making by the Rolls-Royce Bespoke division, this one-off Phantom DHC was unveiled not in India, but in Dubai, where a fascination with the Golden Age of the Raja is evidently alive and well.

Rolls-Royce Alpine Trial Centenary Collection celebrates century-old Austrian race

Tue, 23 Apr 2013

Among the harvest of premieres at the Shanghai Motor Show was a special-edition Rolls-Royce Ghost to celebrate the 1913 Austrian Alpine Trials. Four Rolls-Royce Silver Ghosts entered the race a century ago, and in completing the 1,820-mile challenge flawlessly earned the sobriquet "The Best Car in the World." The new Ghosts commemorating the feat represent two firsts for the brand: Rolls-Royce has never created a bespoke homage to one of its own cars, and it has never released a car with a black grille.
Those two features, as well as blue paint and black wheels, are in tribute to James Radley's privateer entry in that 1913 race that drove alongside the three factory teams. Other special features include the coachline (pinstripe) that evokes the four cars from the 20th-century race, and inside, a color-matched headliner, a clock with the rally stages and times, and topographical inlays on the front fascia and rear picnic tables.
The 20-Ghost Club will be reenacting the event this year, the parade including Radley's 1913 car. It kicks off in Vienna, Austria on June 14. For the time being you can read the press release below and check out the high-res photos above.
