Chrysler's internal documents question Ram quality as workers protest

Fri, 01 Mar 2013

Chrysler is reportedly having a hard time ramping up production of its 2013 Ram 1500. According to The Detroit News, only 16 of the 58 trucks built at the Warren Truck Assembly Plant during the model's first hour passed final inspection. While quality eventually improved over the course of the day, just over half of the units built on Thursday were approved for shipment. Even with workers ordered to stay late to fix their mistakes, some 1,078 units remained outside the facility with defects. The problem, according to workers at the plant, is morale.
According to the report, Chrysler recently changed the shift schedule at the plant and workers are unhappy with the new situation. The new plan has workers split into three shifts, each covering four 10-hour days. With the shifts staggered, some workers now have to work nights and on Saturdays. Some employees are so upset that they've taken to protesting, though the move isn't sanctioned by the United Auto Workers.
Meanwhile, Chrysler admits there were internal issues with the launch, but that the company was able to contain them. A spokesperson has said "plant quality indicators are getting progressively better."

Ram recreates 'Washington Crossing the Delaware' with SI Swimsuit models

Fri, Feb 13 2015

America may have been founded on the overthrow of British rule, on revolution against tyranny and the rejection of over-taxation without representation. But these days, you might argue that America is more about things like pickup trucks and swimsuit models. Fortunately you needn't choose between the founding principles and modern obsessions with this latest promo from Ram. Sports Illustrated brought together a coven of its finest (and we do mean finest) swimsuit models and set them adrift upon the frozen Delaware River atop a wooden barge with a Ram 1500 pickup towing a row boat, recreating Emanuel Leutze's famous painting, "Washington Crossing the Delaware." And just why did they go through all the trouble? Because freedom, that's why. (Be forewarned, though, that the video is not strictly safe for work, what with all the scantily clad revolutionaries and what have you.) 2020 Ram 2500 in minimal camouflage reveals lights, grille

Mon, Nov 5 2018

The folks at FCA have kept the next-generation Ram Heavy Duty trucks well-covered up to now. Now, we finally get to see an example of the truck with minimal vinyl wrap camouflage, giving us our best look yet at the 2020 Ram 2500. It has a number of design cues taken from Ram 1500, but it has a number of distinct differences. At the front, we have a pretty clear look at the 2500's fascia. The grille shares the same non-crosshair design of the 1500. It's flanked by wide headlights, and there's a chrome line that runs along the tops of the headlights and wraps around the top of the grille. Unlike the 1500, the 2500's grille is much taller, sticking way up above the headlights. It also retains the slightly trapezoidal shape. The headlights also have turn signals that protrude from below. The rest of the truck is still relatively well-covered. One key detail we can make out is the taillights, which appear to be the same as those used on the 2019 Ram 1500 Tradesman. As such, the bed will likely share cues with the 1500, such as the molded belt line low on the bedsides. Past spy photos have also revealed that the 2500 will also share the 1500's sharp interior. We're expecting to hear more about the heavy duty Ram in the next few months. Related Video: This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences.
