Hennessey announces Ram 1500 TRX six-wheel conversion
Tue, Sep 1 2020Between the six-wheeled Hennessey VelociRaptor 6x6 and Goliath 6x6 pickup trucks, based on Ford and GM trucks respectively, we should have known a Ram would be next. And Hennessey Performance is pulling the stops out farther than ever before by basing its latest hulk on the 2021 Ram 1500 TRX. Hennessey is calling this six-wheeled beast the Mammoth. But the reason for the name goes beyond the size. The other reason is that the Texas-based tuner is ditching the already potent stock Hellcat engine in favor of the Mopar Hellephant crate engine. The Hellephant is a supercharged 7.0-liter (426-cubic-inch) V8 that in stock tune makes 1,000 horsepower. Hennessey says they'll get 1,200 horsepower out of it. Of course the Mammoth will also feature six-wheel drive, a lengthened frame and bed to accommodate the extra wheels and tires. Off-road suspension, big tires, steel bumpers, auxiliary lights and custom interior will also be on the list of modifications. Hennessey plans to offer the Mammoth for $500,000 and only three will be built. The company will start taking orders on September 4 at noon central time. If you want to place an order, be ready with your phone at the appointed time and call 1-800-897-0426. Related Video: This content is hosted by a third party. 2014 Promaster looks like a Fiat, hauls like a Ram
Thu, 07 Feb 2013A new day is dawning, folks. The old-guard vans of our youth are being replaced with a new flock of European-inspired commercial vehicles from the likes of Ford, Nissan (Renault) and Mercedes-Benz. Here in Chicago, Ram pulled the covers off its entry into the reborn commercial van market with the 2014 Promaster, based on the well-known European Fiat Ducato.
Ram makes no bones about the Promaster's Fiat underpinnings, though the company claims it has beefed up the machine for US roads and uses with a re-engineered chassis, a more robust suspension setup, improved brakes (from Brembo), additional corrosion protection, improved climate control and additional safety systems.
Power comes from one of two powerplants options, one gas and one diesel. First up is Chrysler's well-known 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 rated at 280 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. For a bit more pulling power and durability, Ram is offering a new 3.0-liter four-cylinder diesel engine pumping out 174 hp and, more importantly, 295 lb-ft of torque at just 1,400 rpm. That engine sends its torquey goodness through a six-speed electronically controlled automated manual gearbox.
Ram debuts Rumble Bee redux at Woodward [w/video]
Sat, 17 Aug 2013Ten years ago, when the Ram truck still wore a Dodge badge, a special yellow-and-black model called the Rumble Bee launched, paying homage to the Super Bee muscle car of the 1960s. Now, we have the Charger Super Bee, wearing the same buzzworthy paint job. But for the 2013 Woodward Dream Cruise, Ram has created a modern version of that Rumble Bee pickup based on the current 2013 Ram 1500, though unlike the last go-around, this one is purely a concept. For now, anyway.
This concept truck uses the 1500's lightest configuration - a single cab, two-wheel-drive model. From there, it has been painted in Drone Yellow with a matte finish, and a Mopar ground effects kit gives the truck a more aggressive stance on the road. The large, 22-inch wheels certainly help that, as well, painted in black to match the other dark accents found around the pickup's body.
Inside, to no one's surprise, the black and yellow theme carries on, with leather upholstery and sport mesh seats. That Rumble Bee logo adorns the chairs and floor mats, but the coolest (or weirdest) touch is the actual amber-encased bee found within the rotary shift knob. Seriously.
