Ram recalls 2014-2019 1500 EcoDiesel trucks for coolant leaks
Sat, Oct 26 2019Ram will recall 108,000 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel pickup trucks in the United States for coolant leaks tied to reports of some fires and four minor injuries. Another 50,000 trucks will be recalled in Canada, and fewer than 2,000 sold in markets outside of North America. The recall covers trucks from the 2014 through 2019 model years. The automaker said it found microscopic cracks in some Exhaust Gas Recirculation coolers through dealer-service reports and "other data streams." Such cracks may allow coolant to "escape and – in rare circumstances – pose an engine fire risk." The injuries occurred when customers attempted to manually extinguish engine compartment fires. FCA said it is not aware of any crashes tied to the recall. The automaker will alert owners when they can get recall repairs. Until then customers should monitor coolant levels and contact dealers if they are consistently low. The recall does not affect the redesigned, current-generation Ram 1500, nor any gasoline-powered Ram 1500 from any model year. Customers with questions or concerns may call 1-800-853-1403.
2019 Ram 2500, 3500 Heavy Duty get the Lone Star treatment
Wed, Mar 27 2019Just like with most other pickup trucks, the 2019 Ram 2500 Heavy Duty and 3500 Heavy Duty models are getting a Texas-only special edition. It's called Lone Star, like its 1500 counterpart, and it's a midlevel trim roughly analogous to the Big Horn available in the rest of the country. What distinguishes it as a Lone Star are standard chrome door handles, bumpers and grille surround. The dead giveaway, though, will be the Lone Star badges that dot the exterior. The truck also gets some towing goodies such as a standard Class V tow hitch, electronic trailer brake controller and power trailer mirrors. Inside, buyers can choose from four color combinations including black and gray, black and brown, black and beige, and all-black with either bench or bucket front seats. There's also the option to have a door over the passenger side dash cubbie, and that door will feature the Lone Star badge. The Lone Star trim is available in just about any 2500 or 3500 configuration you desire. Regular, Crew and Mega Cabs are all available, as are both standard and long beds. The 6.4-liter gas engine is standard with the midrange Cummins diesel an option on the 2500, and the high-output Cummins diesel with its 1,000 pound-feet of torque an additional option on the 3500. Four-wheel drive and two-wheel drive are both available. The Lone Star Ram Heavy Duty models will go on sale in Texas during the second quarter of this year. The 2500 starts at $39,340 with destination, and the 3500 starts at $40,790. That's a price increase of about $4,000 over the base models.
Ram 1500 Lone Star revealed: It's what they call 'Big Horn' in Texas
Wed, Feb 14 2018How important is Texas to the full-size truck market? Well, it gets its very own trim level. The 2019 Ram 1500 Lone Star was announced today at the Dallas Auto Show, making official what had always been assumed: that the Texas-only trim level would make its return on the latest Ram truck. If you should live in one of the other 49 states or Canada, don't feel too left out. The Lone Star is effectively just the Big Horn trim level with a different name and unique "Lone Star" badge. Officially, the feature list has it as a package exclusively available on the Big Horn. Be it Lone Star or Big Horn, the trim level exists above the Tradesman and fuel economy-focused HFE. The Ram SLT is no longer available. As the first trim level not strictly intended as a work truck, these more "civilian" oriented trims have chromed exterior trim (versus black plastic), nicer interior finishings (including a leather-wrapped wheel and cloth upholstery replacing vinyl) and a vast increase in available options. Realistically, most Ram buyers start their shopping trip at the Lone Star/Big Horn aisle. Like every 2019 Ram, the Lone Star will hit dealerships from El Paso to Beaumont in the first quarter of 2018, or within the coming months. It'll be built in Sterling Heights, Mich.
