2019 Ram 1500 features an updated Ram's head badge

That's how we've arrived at the mile-high grilles, acres of chrome and belt buckle-esque badging you'll find on trucks like the Chevy Silverado, Ford F-150 and Nissan Titan. The new 2019 Ram 1500 made its debut this week at the 2018 Detroit Auto Show. While the sheetmetal and grille are the most obvious visual changes, the ram's head badge quietly got a modern redesign. At first glance, it appears to be the same badge that's graced Dodge and Ram vehicles for decades. Look closely and you'll see that this new one is all squared off, ditching all the curves for straight edges. It looks chiseled rather than carved and is a far cry from the detailed Ram's head that made a debut back in 1981. It also incorporates the new "RAM" lettering that replaced the crosshair in the truck's grille. View 4 Photos Little things like this do a lot to keep a vehicle fresh. Dodge seems to be the only automaker capable of changing logos anymore. Ford and Chevy are stuck with the blue oval and bowtie, so why not take advantage of a newer nameplate? Midsize Ram truck coming to U.S.
Fri, Jun 1 2018The midsize truck segment is officially back in full force. Today, at FCA's new five-year plan, company CEO Sergio Marchionne and Ram head Mike Manley announced that America will be getting Ram's new global midsize truck. The new model is designed for a global audience. It will not be based on the Mitsubishi Triton, we're told. FCA already sells that model in certain markets as the Ram 1200. Trucks for the North American market will likely be built in Mexico on the old Ram Heavy Duty production line. The upcoming Ram HD — set to debut at the 2019 Detroit Auto Show — will be built in the US. The timing of the new midsize Ram isn't pinpointed, but the above slide from FCA's presentation suggests we'll see it by 2022. A with all upcoming Ram models, look for some form of electrification, likely in the form of the 48-volt mild hybrid system that's set to debut later this year in the 2018 Ram 1500. Don't expect the truck to tailor too heavily to US tastes like the Toyota Tacoma or Chevy Colorado. Like the upcoming Ford Ranger, this is a global truck first and foremost. Marchionne said that Ram's focus in the US will remain mostly on full-size trucks. Still it will be sold in the U.S., just not in any expected large volumes. Related Video:
Chrysler recalling 280k Dodge Ram 1500 pickups over axle seizures
Fri, Dec 19 2014Following a June investigation by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles will be recalling 280,000 Dodge Ram pickups from model year 2005. The issue, NHTSA told The Detroit News, centered on a loose pinion nut, which could cause the rear axle to seize and, potentially, the driveshaft to detach. The affected vehicles were built between January of 2004 and August of 2005, while of the 280,000 trucks, only 257,000 were sold in the US market. According to The News, the recall will begin on February 13, and will see owners report to dealerships to have "a retention feature" added to the pinion nut.
