FCA plants skipping summer shutdown to keep up with demand

Thu, May 14 2015

Hopefully, some FCA US factory employees don't have big plans for the usual summer shutdown, because the automaker is keeping several plants running this year. Demand is so high that the company wants to keep models rolling off the assembly lines. Four FCA US assembly plants, all the engine factories, and some locations that build transmissions are staying open throughout the summer, according to the Detroit Free Press. Usually, these sites would see a two-week shutdown for the company to retool and perform repairs. This year, factories are staying open for FCA to support its strong sales. The lines that remaining humming through the summer show an inclination toward the automaker's popular SUV's and crossovers. They include the Jefferson North Assembly Plant in Michigan that builds the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango; Saltillo Van Assembly in Mexico that constructs the Ram ProMaster; Toledo Assembly Complex in Ohio that produces the Cherokee and Wrangler; and Toluca Assembly in Mexico that makes the Dodge Journey and Fiat 500. 2021 Ram 1500 Limited Longhorn 10th Anniversary Edition revealed with southwestern flair

Tue, Oct 6 2020

Ram has made pickups as a standalone brand for about 10 years now, and the company is celebrating this milestone with a special edition truck. It’s called the 2021 Ram 1500 Limited Longhorn 10th Anniversary Edition. Being the “Limited” trim, itÂ’s starting out as the most luxurious and well-appointed Ram that money can buy. Ram is sweetening the deal with a bunch of southwestern-themed appearance items. On the outside, the 10th Anniversary Edition distinguishes itself with a chrome-slate grille, chrome headlight header, chrome bumpers, a special tailgate badge and new 20-inch wheels that are available in multiple finishes. YouÂ’ll also get tow hooks, side steps and the adaptive LED headlights as standard equipment. On the interior, Ram ramps up the luxury even higher than normal. It comes with a new leather-wrapped dashboard, suede door inserts, leather seat inserts on the bolsters with a unique design to highlight a “southwestern style.” It comes in a Mountain Brown interior color theme and features hammered aluminum accents, a 10th Anniversary instrument cluster with graphic and badge, a glossy black shifter cap, metal pedal kit and a brushed-zinc badge on the center consoleÂ’s lid. YouÂ’ll be able to spec the truck with the 5.7-liter V8 or the 3.0-liter turbodiesel V6. ItÂ’s only available in the Crew Cab body style, but you can get it in either the 5-foot-7-inch or 6-foot-4 bed lengths. Pricing begins at $58,565, including the $1,695 destination charge. These trucks are on sale now, so check your local dealers if you want one of the special editions.

Ram considering Rumble Bee concept for production

Fri, 20 Sep 2013

Yellow truck enthusiasts, take note - Ram is considering production for its Rumble Bee Concept, a very, very extroverted pickup that debuted at the 2013 Woodward Dream Cruise. Drawing inspiration from the last Ram Rumble Bee, which in turn borrowed heavily from the Dodge Super Bee muscle cars of the 1960s, the Rumble Bee sports a few things that set it apart from the standard 1500 lineup.
The most obvious change is its retina-scorching, matte yellow paint. Teamed up with a two-inch suspension drop and monster 24-inch black wheels wrapped in low-profile tires, the Rumble Bee cuts an imposing figure. Matching that aggressive exterior is a 5.7-liter Hemi V8, complete with 395 horsepower and an exhaust system that can go from raucous and muscle-car-like to the full-on NASCAR at the push of a button.
According to Edmunds, after a positive reception at the Dream Cruise, the Auburn Hills automaker is now presenting the truck to dealers in a bid to gauge interest. "We try to listen to the dealers. They know their marketplace," Ram's Dave Sowers tells Edmunds, adding that Ram could produce the new truck.
