Porsche shows off Cayman GT4 Clubsport in new video

Sat, Nov 28 2015

Amateur racers rejoiced last week when Porsche unveiled a track-ready version of the Cayman GT4 at the 2015 LA Auto Show. Now, the company is doing a bit of publicity for the new track car, featuring the race-ready Clubsport video in a stylish, 53-second video clip. There's not a lot to it, to be honest. We see the GT4 Clubsport, we hear it briefly, but that's about it. So if you were hoping that we'd finally get a look at the stripped down cabin, we're sorry to disappoint you. Still, it's good to see Porsche's newest track car in motion for the first time. For those that need a refresher, the GT4 Clubsport retains the standard car's 3.8-liter flat-six engine, but pairs it with the company's super-fast dual-clutch transmission. Combined with basic safety equipment – racing buckets, six-point harnesses, a full roll cage, and a fire suppression system – and suspension components from the company's other entry level racer, the 911 GT3 Cup, and you get a race-ready, mid-engined coupe for the reasonable sum of $165,000. Matt LeBlanc nearly runs over cameraman during Top Gear shoot

Mon, Apr 4 2016

Matt LeBlanc almost caused a bad start to the new season of Top Gear when the former Friends star narrowly avoided running over a cameraman. The new host reportedly needed to take a few hours off afterward to get his head together, according to The Mirror. An unnamed Top Gear insider tells the British tabloid that the near tragedy happened while filming in South Africa last month. During a break in the action, LeBlanc decided to take a drive in a Porsche that the show was reviewing. What he didn't realize was that a cameraman was laying on the ground shooting static footage sports car. Another cameraman saw what was happening and got LeBlanc's attention to avert the crisis. "It was one of those instances where, if the tracking man and Matt had reacted even a few seconds later, it could have been really serious. Both of them appreciated what a lucky escape it was," the source told The Mirror. While everyone was okay, the incident reportedly left LeBlanc upset. He needed to take a few hours off to regain his composure and checked to make sure the cameraman wasn't injured. Top Gear announced LeBlanc as a new cast member in February, and welcomed him with a drive in a convertible Reliant Robin, which wore a Stars and Stripes paint scheme. The show's recent trailer highlighted more of LeBlanc's trip, and the car definitely had some problems. Top Gear returns in May to televisions in the UK. There's no word yet on a US premiere date. Ford Mustang outsold Audi TT and Porsche 911 in Germany

Fri, Apr 8 2016

Despite being the antithesis of the cars Germany is known for, the new Ford Mustang was the best selling sports car in the land of schnitzel and beer last month by a whisker. The Mustang beat out the Audi TT by 780 units to 708, and it beat Germany's best known performance car, the Porsche 911, 780 to 752. That makes some sense, right? The Mustang has to be cheaper than those competitors, right? Not really. Both the EcoBoost and V8-powered Mustang have higher starting prices than the equivalent TT. The 2.3-liter, EcoBoost-powered Mustang starts at 38,000 euros (around $43,300 at today's rates), while the front-drive Audi TT starts at 35,950 euros (about $41,000). The V8-powered Mustang GT, meanwhile, starts at 43,000 euros (about $49,000), which is just 2,550 euros more than the Quattro-equipped TT. When 310 horsepower or 435 hp can be had for just a couple thousand more than 220 hp, it's easy to understand the Mustang's success. The 911, of course, is a lot more expensive than the Mustang. You can buy two Mustang GTs for the price of a single Carrera. But Ford also managed to beat out the Porsche's smaller siblings, the Boxster and Cayman twins, which sold a combined 642 vehicles. Again, the pony car is significantly cheaper, but that doesn't do much to lessen the impact of the Mustang's victory. If you're in Germany and are concerned about this American invasion, you shouldn't be (yet). The TT is Germany's best-selling sports car from January through March, with 2,299 to the Ford's 1,823. Porsche is breathing down the pony car's neck, too, with 1,811 units in 2016. It'll be interesting to see if Ford's successful March carries on into the rest of 2016. Related Video:
