NFL draft recruits to get Porsche 911s for fastest 40 times
Thu, Feb 5 2015It's fair to say the NFL Combine is a big deal for players entering a draft. Their future quite literally comes down to a series of drills. You a defensive tackle? Better rock out on the bench press. Hoping to be the next great wide receiver? Your vertical better be awesome. And what of the running backs? Well, few drills match the importance of the 40-yard dash. That particular drill will have a renewed importance not just for the RBs, but for other skill positions at this year's Combine, as the three fastest times will be gifted a shiny new Porsche 911. Adidas is offering up the three cars, which ESPN reports are valued at about $83,000 a piece. That means these new recruits won't be rolling around in a Turbo or GT3. They will, however, sport a questionable sense of design, as the German shoe company has fitted a cheetah print, which is meant to match one of the company's new trainers. You can check both the car and the shoe out above. NFL fans, meanwhile, should feel free to head into Comments and let us know who you think will take home a new 911. Related Video:
Porsche Panamera's alluring hind quarters teased
Tue, Jun 7 2016It looks like we'll be seeing the new Porsche Panamera sooner rather than later, after the German company released its first teaser video for its redesigned sedan. Sadly, that image you see above is the only clear view of the new car being offered – the video doesn't offer much. In short, the clip below is all about how Porsche has successfully done its own thing over the years. You know, building cars with the engine in the wrong end and such. It's a nice little recap of Porsche history, showing Porsche's first offerings through to the 918 Spyder. But let's talk about that teaser image. We get a good look at the taillights, the traditional Porsche lettering, and the rear window. Based on these few details, it looks like the new Panamera's tail will borrow some inspiration from the updated 911. The lights are a similar shape, and while the sedan will tie the two units together with a lighting element – kind of like a 911 Targa – it looks like there's a similar character line just above the Porsche lettering. But the really weird detail here is the vertical cutline at the Panamera's center, right above the letter "S" in "Porsche." There's absolutely no reason for it to be there, unless Porsche is going to offer something really weird like a split tailgate, which we doubt. We can't see anything like it in our spy photos, but it'd be a relatively easy thing to hide with camo. But why is it there? We can't wait to find out. This content is hosted by a third party. Porsche Cayenne, Panamera production halted by flooding
Thu, 06 Jun 2013If you recently ordered a Porsche Cayenne or a Panamera, delivery may take a little longer than originally expected. Automotive News reports that production of both models has been temporarily halted at the Porsche assembly plant in Leipzig, Germany as the result of supply shortages caused by flooding in the nearby Czech Republic. The reason for the stoppage is that the body of the Cayenne - currently Porsche's best-selling model - is produced at a Volkswagen plant in the Czech city of Bratislava and shipped by train to Leipzig.
The report does not indicate why Panamera production has been stopped - that the five-door's body is made at a separate location in Hanover, Germany. However pre-assembly will continue on these models. At full capacity, the Leipzig plant can produce about 450 vehicles per day, and it isn't clear how long this weather-related stoppage will last.
