Ken Block's Gymkhana 8 to feature Dubai Police cars?
Tue, Feb 23 2016Yesterday we showed you the shiny Ford Fiesta that Ken Block will slide, spin, and hoon through the next Gymkhana video. In case the image above isn't clear, that video will drop at midnight EST on February 30th on the Ford Performance YouTube channel. We don't know all the entire premise of the video yet, but this Tweet from the man himself reveals that the video will be set in Dubai. Block is standing on the Fiesta we saw yesterday, and arrayed behind him are a handful of those famous Dubai Police cars you're probably familiar with. The force has a fleet of sportscars and supercars, and the purpose is outreach and goodwill among its citizenry, not necessarily the pursuit of criminals. This content is hosted by a third party. Audi has won 12 of the last 15 events, the scion of Auto Union is trying to make it 13 this year. To do so, it will have to overcome a situation faced only three other times during its dominance of La Sarthe: underdog status. Toyota has won the first two races of the year and claimed pole for this race, the rumor being that this year it's Toyota's race to lose.
And then there's Porsche. It's been 16 years since the Stuttgart brand raced on the top rung at Le Mans, three years years since it announced its return, just a year since it acquired Mark Webber in a signing that wasn't subtle and a few months since we got eyes on the 919 Hybrid.
'Latest production version' of Porsche 918 shown off on Twitter
Fri, 16 Aug 2013Porsche posted a picture of what it is calling "the latest production version" of the 2015 Porsche 918 Spyder on Twitter. It looks like the gasoline-hybrid supercar is being driven sportively on some California back roads during Monterey Speed Week.
Whatever updates were made to this version aren't visual (except for the paint), as the one Chris Harris drove last spring and another seen hot-weather testing in Nevada both had production bodies. We presume the changes are relatively minor and more than skin deep - perhaps brake calibration, suspension tuning or tweaks to the powertrain - but Porsche didn't release any more information.
The 918 Spyder is Porsche's latest supercar, which will compete with the LaFerrari and the McLaren P1 hybrid supercars. The Porsche may be the underdog of the group when considering horsepower, acceleration, top speed and price, but the 887-horsepower brute has the most advanced hybrid drivetrain of the three.
