2000 Porsche Boxster with Tiptronic Transmission

Up for auction is our 2000 Porsche Boxster with the Tiptronic automatic transmission and low, low miles.  This Boxster has accumulated only 34,884 miles from new and has been a southern two owner car all of its life.  We bought this roadster in 2009 in Houston and have put only ~4,000 miles on it in the five years we have owned it.  The car has been garaged during our ownership and during the rare time it found itself outdoors it was protected by the Sunbrella car cover that is included in this auction.  The paint certainly attests to the care it has received.  We love this little roadster but with our imminent retirement and an expanding fleet of vehicles to dispose of, it is now on offer.  This is a great opportunity for someone to obtain a low mileage example of a great little mid-engine roadster from Porsche that has been well looked after and maintained.

The tires on this Boxster, Sumitomo HTR Z III’s were purchased three years ago but have less than 1K miles on them.  The paint and appearance is very good to excellent with relatively few blemishes, the worst being a key scratch above the driver door lock (pictured).  The convertible top is in great condition with only some scuffing of the fabric on each side from normal use (pictured).  The top was cleaned and waterproofed with the 303 fabric top protection system just this weekend. The vinyl rear window is clear and supple with no clouding.  Likewise, the headlamp covers are clear and unclouded.  We have run only Mobil 1 full synthetic during our ownership.  The audio system has been upgraded to an Alpine CDA-9886 CD receiver with MP3/iPod compatibility.  The memory position leather seating is in great condition with no tears or cracking, having been looked after with Lexol preservation products.  All keys and owners manuals are included.

On the downside, one of the roll bar hoop wind baffles is not installed, it having lost one of the three mounting tangs and having some broken mesh.  You can not tell the mesh is broken because there is no missing plastic, but it is not installed due to the missing tang.  It is included in the sale and should be a very simple repair.  There are some very minor dings on some of the panels but none are very noticeable and don’t really show up in the following images.  There was a front license plate mount, removed because not required in Louisiana, but included in the auction that caused some minor rub marks on the front valence.  Again, take a look at the photos.

Our reserve is set well below the KBB and NADA retail values for a roadster in this condition and with these few miles.  Bid high and bid often, and more importantly, have fun.

McLaren P1 vs Porsche 918 vs Ducati 1199 Superleggera in epic standing-mile drag race

Fri, 10 Oct 2014

We live in a high-tech supercar renaissance, with the Porsche 918 Spyder, McLaren P1 and Ferrari LaFerrari all duking it out for performance supremacy. All three members of this power trio place the engine behind the driver and use some kind of hybrid assist. However, each one finds a slightly different way to make that setup work. While all of the tech is insanely cool, let's just admit that we are all really wondering which one is the quickest and which is the fastest. Autocar aims to find out in a new video pitting two of them against a surprise challenger in the standing mile.
Unfortunately, the race is missing the Ferrari, despite Autocar's best efforts. So instead, it has another limited-edition, high-performance vehicle from Italy in the form of the Ducati 1199 Superleggera. The bike has just two cylinders, but at 1.2-liters of displacement, it makes over 200 horsepower, and all that gumption is packaged into a magnesium monocoque body with carbon fiber bodywork to keep weight low. Granted, the cycle is going up against the 875-hp Porsche and 903-hp McLaren, but traction, aerodynamics and gearing all play a part in this fascinating video.
There's no sense in ruining the winner before watching, but Autocar teases that the finish is one of its closest drag races ever. Check out the video to find out just what that means.

Watch this Koenigsegg CCX hit 211 mph on a runway, outpacing McLaren's P1

Tue, 03 Jun 2014

Vmax200 in in England organizes events where those who care to show up with a supercar can run them down the two-mile runway at Bruntingthorpe Proving Ground. Evo attended the latest event, bringing an impressively green Lamborghini Aventador to test its girth and gaping vents against other precious metals like the McLaren P1 and F1, Ferrari F12 Berlinetta and Enzo, a Porsche Carrera GT and enough 911 Turbos to start a dealership. Speaking of those Porsches, nine of the top ten slots in the top speed competition are claimed by modified 911 Turbos.
A monochrome Swede ruled them all, though, a black-and-white Koenigsegg CCX setting fire to the speed trap run after run, hitting 211 miles per hour at its quickest. It was followed by, surprise, a 911 GT2 modified by 9E that did 210 mph. You can watch the EVO video below, GT Spirit has a bigger breakdown of the day, and we've included another vid showing the tandem launch of the CCX and McLaren F1.

Roger Rodas' Widow Suing Porsche Over Carrera GT Crash

Tue, May 13 2014

Investigations undertaken by local law enforcement may have vindicated Porsche from any wrongdoing in the crash that killed actor Paul Walker and racing driver Roger Rodas last year, but the latter's widow is apparently not convinced. According to emerging reports, Kristine Rodas has filed a lawsuit seeking unspecified damages from Porsche Cars North America. In her suit filed with the Los Angeles Superior Court, Rodas' attorney Mark Geragos reportedly disputes the findings of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, which asserted that the vehicle was traveling at an unsafe speed of 90 miles per hour on city streets, identifying the speed as the cause of the accident. Instead the lawsuit claims that the vehicle was only going 55 mph and that the cause of the crash was improper equipment – namely a faulty right rear suspension and the lack of a crash cage and proper fuel tank. "The Carrera GT was unsafe for its intended use by reason of defects in its manufacture, design, testing, component and constituents, so that it would not safely serve its purpose," according to the specifics of the suit obtained by the Los Angeles Times. When reached for comment, Porsche Cars North America spokesman Nick Twork told Autoblog: We are very sorry for the Rodas and Walker family's loss. The crash was the subject of a detailed investigation by the proper authorities (L.A. County Sheriff and California Highway Patrol), and their investigation disproves the allegations in the lawsuit. The investigation found that driving at a high speed in a negligent manner caused the crash and concluded that there was no mechanical defect. The Carrera GT is known as a difficult car to drive. As the LA Times report points out, Jay Leno spun one at Talladega in 2005, and the following year, Porsche paid part of a multi-million-dollar settlement after two were killed on a track when their Carrera GT struck a slower-moving Ferrari. The Rodas lawsuit could very well point to that previous suit from San Diego Superior Court. Whether the court in LA will hand down a similar ruling remains to be seen.
