1999 Porsche Boxster 986 Ocean Blue Metallic / Savanna Biege - 5 Speed Manual with only 96k.Offered for sale is an extra clean California Boxster in beautiful shape with zero accidents or stories. This life long California car was only imported to Minnesota by myself six months ago and passed a complete mechanical inspection by IPB Autosport at that time. With several key service items just performed (listed below), this Boxster will give you long time enjoyment with no worries of expensive maintenance moving forward. Unexpected purchase of a third Porsche forces sale or I'd enjoy this beauty for many years to come; I looked at many Boxsters to find a nice, well maintained example. RECENT MAJOR SERVICE & REPAIRS (Just Performed):• Clutch• Air/Oil Separator (AOS)• Convertible Top Rear Window• Motor Mounts• Headlight Lenses• Four Wheel Alignment• A/C Serviced and Recharged• Drive Belt• Front Sway Bar Links• New Bosch Battery (850cca)• Fresh Mobil 1 Oil & Filter• New Leather Shift Boot • Coolant Expansion Tank @ 75k
WHAT'S INCLUDED:
• Factory hardtop complete with rolling stand and dust cover • Two sets of wheels to choose from: Original Boxster Design 17" Twists and 16" M395 Five Spoke with Pirelli Winter Sport Snow Tires. Both included with "buy now". • Two factory keys, Original Owners Manual, Window Sticker, and Service History dating back to 1999.• Three sets of floor mats: Brand new set of OEM Factory Savanna Biege mats, Brand new Lloyds all season mats, and the original set that came with the car. • CD-ROM with Supporting DocumentationFACTORY OPTIONS:• Heated Seats• On Board Computer• Sports Package• All Leather Seats (Savanna Beige)• Colored Crest Wheel Caps• Hi-Fi Sound pkg• Illuminated Vanity MirrorsOverall Condition: PAINT: Gorgeous Ocean Blue Metallic paint has a deep rich showroom new shine. It was hard to capture in photographs just how stunning the car looks. The nose has some minor stone chips from freeway driving and there are a few faint scratches found under careful scrutiny (too faint to be photographed), but overall, the paint is very nice. Hardtop has a 1" scratch on the driver's side. No rust.
INTERIOR: Very clean Savanna Biege interior. Rare factory heated seats that work well. Non-smoker. No fading on trim pieces. Driver's seat shows minor wear from use, but no rips or tears in the leather. E-brake plastic cover has a crack in it. Armrest needs new hinges (common and easy fix). Overall, the interior retains a very "like new" look.
DRIVING IMPRESSIONS: Motor is very healthy pulling strong through the entire rev range. Silky smooth both hot/cold with no unusual noises. Car tracks straight down the road and does not pull while braking. Steering is razor sharp and the car still feels "tight". Runs cool and never overheats. Nice crisp clutch engagement one of the best feeling gearboxes I've felt in an early Boxster. No warning lights illuminated on the dash and the air conditioning blows cold. Overall, the car drives just as nice as cars with half the mileage. The 2.5L flat six in these early Boxster's sounds absolutely amazing, a very mechanical sound reminiscent of the old air-cooled 911's, with a spine tingling exhaust note on full throttle.
MAINTENANCE: Included will be service history from the previous owner (2003-2013) and the factory maintenance booklet with all appropriate dealership service stamps from the original owner (1999-2003). This Boxster has been lovingly maintained and enthusiast owned for it's entire life, and it shows. The 2.5 motor has the vastly superior dual-row IMS bearing and was not plagued with catastrophic failures like the newer models from 2000 on-wards. Have clean Carfax on hand.
CONVERTIBLE TOP: The Metropol Blue convertible top nicely accents the Ocean Blue Metallic paint. It's in good condition but shows minor wear from use. Functions flawlessly with no holes or major blemishes. Rubber trim is in good condition. New rear window just sewn in before my purchase. Included is the "red clip" which activates the interior motion sensor if you wish to leave the car unattended with the top down.
ACCESSORIES/PRICE: While I highly recommend the hardtop as a must have accessory for the Boxster, I understand it's not for everyone, thus I am willing to sell the vehicle without the hardtop for a discounted price. I have two sets of wheels for the vehicle: The original Boxster Design 17" Twists, and factory 16" M395 Five Spokes mounted with Pirelli Winter Sport Snow Tires (both pictured on the vehicle). Buyer can pick which wheels come with the vehicle or I will include both sets for an agreed price. I will include everything if the "Buy Now" option is used.
ABOUT ME: As a PCA member, I have owned Porsche's for more than a decade and am a huge enthusiast of the marque. I understand how apprehensive buying a car sight unseen can be, and as a result I'm willing to work with potential buyers 100% by being available to answer questions via phone or email, take additional photographs, and to help arrange a PPI or shipping. I've tried to include photos of the vehicle in a variety of photographs with different lighting and backgrounds for the most accurate representation of how the car looks. I bought this car sight unseen from California in June of 2013 and it exceeded my expectations. Really wish I could keep it.
Vehicle is sold as-is, where-is, with no warranty expressed or implied. Buyer is responsible for shipping and vehicle will not be released until funds have 100% cleared my bank. I am happy to assist potential buyers however possible in this endeavor. $500.00 PayPal Deposite required within 24 hours of auction close. Full payment via cash, certified check, or wire transfer required within 7 days of auction close. Vehicle is offered for sale locally thus I reserve the right to end this listing early.

It looks like 2014 Porsche 911 GT3 drivers might actually get to drive their cars again soon. Reports of fires affecting the track-ready Germans first began about a month ago. Then, a few days later, the automaker confirmed two of the five alleged blazes and said owners shouldn't drive their cars until further notice. Porsche then went so far as to offer to pick up the GT3s and transport them to the nearest dealer until the problem was identified and a fix was found. Finally, there appears to be a repair.
"We know the reason and the problem-solving measures. We're testing them," said Porsche CEO Matthias Müller to Bloomberg. The technical fix will be released to owners shortly.
The recall affects all 785 GT3s that have been sold so far, but there have been no reported injuries caused by the fires. When it first announced the safety campaign, Porsche said: "Internal studies to determine the cause of the engine damage have not been completed yet."

If the ability to drive a vehicle equipped with a manual gearbox is becoming a lost art, then the skill of being able to match revs on downshifts is the stuff they would teach at the automotive equivalent of the Shaolin Temple. The usefulness of rev matching in street driving is limited most of the time – aside from sounding cool and impressing your friends. But out on a race track or the occasional fast, windy road, its benefits are abundantly clear. While in motion, the engine speed and wheel speed of a vehicle with a manual transmission are kept in sync when the clutch is engaged (i.e. when the clutch pedal is not being pressed down). However, when changing gear, that mechanical link is severed briefly, and the synchronization between the motor and wheels is broken. When upshifting during acceleration, this isn't much of an issue, as there's typically not a huge disparity between engine speed and wheel speed as a car accelerates. Rev-matching downshifts is the stuff they would teach at the automotive equivalent of the Shaolin Temple. But when slowing down and downshifting – as you might do when approaching a corner at a high rate of speed – that gap of time caused by the disengagement of the clutch from the engine causes the revs to drop. Without bringing up the revs somehow to help the engine speed match the wheel speed in the gear you're about to use, you'll typically get a sudden jolt when re-engaging the clutch as physics brings everything back into sync. That jolt can be a big problem when you're moving along swiftly, causing instability or even a loss of traction, particularly in rear-wheel-drive cars. So the point of rev matching is to blip the throttle simultaneously as you downshift gears in order to bring the engine speed to a closer match with the wheel speed before you re-engage the clutch in that lower gear, in turn providing a much smoother downshift. When braking is thrown in, you get heel-toe downshifting, which involves some dexterity to use all three pedals at the same time with just two feet – clutch in, slow the car while revving, clutch out. However, even if you're aware of heel-toe technique and the basic elements of how to perform a rev match, perfecting it to the point of making it useful can be difficult.

Along with the Ferrari Laferrari and McLaren P1, the Porsche 918 Spyder is one of the trio of hybrid supercars potentially defining the path for these rarified vehicles going forward. When thinking about high-performance machines like this, the mind usually goes to precise driving around a circuit or maybe along a beautifully undulating road... not so much in the snow. Still, this group has more than enough power to make it through a little bit of powder, and the 918 proves that at the Porsche Driving Experience winter camp in Finland. Although, the set of studded snow tires certainly helps. Even with the trick all-wheel drive system in the Porsche combining a mid-mounted V8 and electric motors, this 918 has absolutely no problem lighting up the rear end in the snow and ice. Even at relatively low speeds, just a blip of the throttle is all it takes for the back tires to step out. However, the handling still looks quite controllable. It's hard to grin as this rare supercar does the Scandinavian Flick to set up a perfect drift between the snow banks.
