1993 Porsche 968 Base Convertible 2-door 3.0l on 2040-cars

I bought this 1993 968 Cabriolet about 12 months ago. It had previously been owned by a women who lives in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. It had been sitting in a lot in Ft. Lauderdale for more than a year. It's was professionally detailed and cleaned up nicely. The car has only 78,500 miles on it. It is a rare green color with a black interior. It has the 3.0L engine with a 4 speed tiptronic transmission. This Porsche is in very good mechanical shape. I recently had major engine service done to it including the timing belt, water pump, tension rollers, etc. Like many 968's that are more than 20 years old with automatic transmissions, we recently replaced the flex plate auto dampner. This is a rubber part that bolts to the flywheel. Anyone who's a 968 fan knows the expense involved in doing the engine work and transmission repair. Big bucks and big headaches you won't have to deal with. The car runs and drives great! It's fast! Service records are available since I've had the car. The service was done by a great Porsche mechanic in Miami, who only works on 928's, 944's and 968's. The oil has recently been changed. I changed out the front tires with new17 inch Kumho ECSTA tires due to dry rot. The rears are also 17 inch Kumho ECSTA tires. They are in good shape. The car is not perfect and still needs some minor work done. I'm selling the car as is. The interior is in good shape, however with most cars more than 20 years old the seats will need to be replaced. We recently put on a new convertible top in addition to doing some work with the frame. There is some rubber molding that is missing where the doors and window meet the top. The original Porsche radio needed replacing so we put in a nice Alpine radio with blue tooth. Cosmetically the car needs some work. The left door handle recently broke. We're working on getting a replacement. The doors and fenders are in relatively good shape. There is some damage to the lower left side right behind the left side door (see pictures). The hood needs a little bit of body work. Both head lights work and go up and down (one front picture of the car were taken before the car went into the shop for service). And the hood and trunk are showing areas of oxidation. It's probably best that the entire car needs painting. This car is very rare. For those of you not familiar with the Porsche 968 it was an automobile sold by Porsche AG of Germany from 1991 to 1995, and marketed as the replacement for the Porsche 944. When production ceased in the 1995 model year, it represented the end of the line started almost 20 years earlier with the introduction of the Porsche 924. There were only a limited amount of Porsce 968's built and shipped to the states. Approximately 2000 coupes and 2000 cabriolets were imported to the United States between 1991 and 995. This color combination is very rare. Combined with the tiptronic transmission...maybe 10 in total were manufactured. If you have any questions or want to see the car I can be reached at 561 414-8477. Only serious buyers please! |

Ward's Automotive Ten Best Engines of 2014 dominated by diesels, turbos
Thu, 12 Dec 2013With the Car and Driver Ten Best decided, the North American Car and Truck of the Year finalists announced and Cadillac, Ram and Subaru chalking up wins with Motor Trend, it's fair to say that the automotive awards season is in full swing. The next set of trophies to be handed out will be from Ward's Automotive, which has announced the winners of its 2014 10 Best Engines.
The latest contest was marked by the widespread emergence of diesel power and the continued success of turbocharged engines. There was even an electric motor on this year's list. In fact, only three of the ten winners were naturally aspirated and only two winners returned from last year.
"We weren't looking to throw the bums out, as they might say about an election. We were just really impressed with the flood of new powertrains," said Ward's Automotive Editor-in-Chief Drew Winter. Those new powertrains include the 83-kilowatt electric motor from the Fiat 500e, the 1.0-liter, EcoBoost three-cylinder from the Ford Fiesta and the 2.0-liter turbodiesel from the Chevrolet Cruze.
1949 Gm?nd Porsche shows the birth of an icon
Fri, 21 Mar 2014The Austrian village of Gmünd is more than just difficult to pronounce; it's also the birthplace of the Porsche brand. Before the company ever started building sports cars at its current home base near Stuttgart, the fledgling business completed several vehicles in the tiny town in Southern Austria. In this video, former Pikes Peak International Hill Climb champion Jeff Zwart takes a look at a 1949 Gmünd coupe to see how the company has evolved since its earliest days.
The thing to note about the Gmünd-built Porsches is their absolute design simplicity. The phrase "form follows function" gets bandied around a lot, but it really means something when you look at these early cars. However, the minimalism was partially out of necessity. The vehicles were meant to be sporty but certainly weren't rockets. Power came courtesy of a modified Volkswagen Beetle engine, and anything extraneous would have slowed the models down. Scroll down to watch Zwart go back in time to Porsche's beginnings.
Lots of new cars were unveiled in Munich this week. Here's what you might've missed
Thu, Sep 9 2021The 2021 Munich Auto Show is happening this week and due to ongoing corporate travel restrictions, we remained firmly planted on this continent. So, although we can't tell you exactly what it's like inside the futuristic new Mercedes EQE electric sedan or fully appreciate the funky Volkswagen ID.Life concept, there's no shortage of details and analysis to provide. Obviously, as Germany's premier auto show in 2021, the cars unveiled were primarily from the German brands. We also focused mostly on the cars that might actually make their way to the United States, or at least inspire those that will. 2023 Mercedes-Benz EQE is an electric alternative to the E-Class While the EQS paved the way for Mercedes' electrified future, much like the S-Class before it, the EQE stands to be the car that will move in far greater numbers -- much like the E-Class before it. Mercedes-Maybach EQS Concept View 4 Photos Volkswagen ID.Life concept previews the city car's high-riding EV future Well, isn't this adorable? Though perhaps a tad derivative of the Honda E, Volkswagen's blocky little crossover EV nevertheless represents a handsome new direction for VW design. We like this better than the rounded looks of the current ID.3 and ID.4. 2021 Volkswagen ID.Life concept View 20 Photos BMW i Vision Circular is a 100% recycled and recyclable hatch Behold, the next BMW 3 Series! Just kidding. Besides this, BMW displayed cars in person for the first time that it had previously only unveiled on the interwebs, including the new 2 Series and revised iX3. It also unveiled some bikes. BMW i Vision Circular Concept View 63 Photos Audi's GrandSphere concept was designed as a road-going private jet Does Audi know what a sphere is? Cause this isn't anything like one. Still, it's quite a handsome thing, and as one of three Sphere-branded concepts, previews the next direction of Audi design (which is pleasantly reminiscent of two-decade-old Mazda design). No complaints here. 2021 Audi GrandSphere concept View 26 Photos Porsche Mission R is a 1,000-horsepower electric monster Just like the Mission E previewed the Taycan, this apparently previews another future car.
