Watch this Koenigsegg CCX hit 211 mph on a runway, outpacing McLaren's P1

Tue, 03 Jun 2014

Vmax200 in in England organizes events where those who care to show up with a supercar can run them down the two-mile runway at Bruntingthorpe Proving Ground. Evo attended the latest event, bringing an impressively green Lamborghini Aventador to test its girth and gaping vents against other precious metals like the McLaren P1 and F1, Ferrari F12 Berlinetta and Enzo, a Porsche Carrera GT and enough 911 Turbos to start a dealership. Speaking of those Porsches, nine of the top ten slots in the top speed competition are claimed by modified 911 Turbos.
A monochrome Swede ruled them all, though, a black-and-white Koenigsegg CCX setting fire to the speed trap run after run, hitting 211 miles per hour at its quickest. It was followed by, surprise, a 911 GT2 modified by 9E that did 210 mph. You can watch the EVO video below, GT Spirit has a bigger breakdown of the day, and we've included another vid showing the tandem launch of the CCX and McLaren F1.

Jay Leno's Dodge Challenger raises $585k for USO in Scottsdale

Mon, Jan 19 2015

Of all the metal moved in Scottsdale, AZ, this holiday weekend, the one you see here was hardly the most expensive. But it's noteworthy for another reason: despite being a relatively humble, second-hand 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8, raised an impressive $565,625. That's because, first of all, it belonged to Jay Leno, and secondly because the proceeds were going to the USO. Leno donated the modern muscle car from his collection to benefit our men and women in uniform, and was on hand to present the car on stage at the Gooding & Company auction, along with USO president J.D. Crouch II and former Army chief of staff General George W. Casey, Jr. After frenzied and patriotic bidding, the gavel ultimately dropped at $360,000, accompanied by over $200,000 in additional contributions, bringing the total amount donated to the USO to over half a million. Commendable though it was, of course the Challenger didn't garner the highest bids at the auction. A 1959 Ferrari 250 GT LWB California Spider sold for $7.7 million and a 1968 Ferrari 330 GTS fetched $2.4 million. A rare 1962 Ferrari 400 Superamerica Series I Coupe Aerodinamico sold for over $4,070,000 – which, according to Sports Car Market, is the most ever paid at auction for a 400 Superamerica. And a 1966 Porsche 906 Carrera 6 also sold for a record $1.98 million. Behold the glory of unobscured Porsche 911 Turbo bumpers

Tue, Aug 18 2015

Porsche apparently sees absolutely no reason to hide the changes for the 911's upcoming refresh on any of the models. After releasing official photos of the standard version ahead of the debut, here are the Germans testing the revised 911 Turbo S at the Nurburgring with no camouflage at all. The exterior tweaks are tiny enough that maybe the company thinks no one would notice. The front bumper receives tiny adjustments, including the LED lights lengthened in the lower air intakes. The headlights are also slightly tweaked, and the taillights are the wider units from the rest of the updated range. The rear bumper receives some restyled vents at each corner, as well. The standard 911 is rumored to receive a new family of smaller displacement, turbocharged flat-six engines as soon as this year's Frankfurt Motor Show, and that leaves the Turbo in a weird place. Forced induction holds a special place in the model's lineup by denoting some of the most powerful versions. With that exclusivity possibly on the way out, Porsche might now have to find a way to keep the Turbo badge special. Related Video:
