Calling all U boat Captains.

My name is Edwin McCain,

If you don't get that joke then you didn't imprint on the 928 as a teenager like I did.  This was one of the baddest production cars made when I was 16 years old.  I fell in lust with it the first time I saw one.  I'm not gonna use the word love because I LOVE my wife and children.  I have owned two of these cars in my lifetime.  One that wasn't all that hot and this one that is AMAZING.

I have really enjoyed this car for the last 15 years but I have come to a crossroads.  I recently shot an episode of a show called Celebrity Bucket list for the Biography channel.  I asked them to help me bring some much needed attention to a school in Greenville S.C. called the Meyer Center.  Meyer Center dot org.  I love this little school and everything it stands for.  I am hoping that the episode will start an endowment to help with the operating costs.  The Meyer Center takes everyone who needs them regardless of their ability to pay.  I have been doing shows and raising money for the Meyer Center for over a decade and I decided that I would put in the initial gift into the endowment except I don't have much cash at the moment. (long story)  I am always singing about the true value in this life being about friendships and kindness so I decided it was time to pony up the "prize possession" and put my money where my mouth is.  100% of the sale price of this car will go to help me start the endowment for the Meyer Center.  I will also include one of my personal guitars that and I will deliver the car and play some songs for you and your friends if you would like.  Keeping in mind that I work mostly on weekends you will need to be a little flexible on the delivery day.  Some of you are wondering "who the hell is Edwin McCain?" This car has been expertly maintained by Ray Munsch in Raleigh N.C. who now works with the Ingram Collection, one of the worlds most prestigious private Porsche collections.  If you have serious interest in the car I can put you in touch with Ray directly to answer all of your questions.  I can provide service records that show that this car has new timing belt and tensioner, fuel lines, brakes, clutch an aluminum flywheel, timing belt, fuel filter, struts, clutch, a short throw shifter and new exhaust including high flow catalytic converters.  I powder coated the original rims and "murdered" the car in all black. There is a custom alpine stereo with a subwoofer put in a custom box in the back, all with Ipod connections and (ahem) passport radar connection hard wired.  It came from the factory with a 5 speed transmission (rare) and leather dash (also rare).  It has Michelin tires with plenty of tread left.  I have the original window sticker for the car and all the previous owners service records.  Anyone who knows me knows that the fact that I still have all the records is a total miracle because I am not the most organized person in the world.  It also should give you an idea about how special this car is.

BUT It has some flaws.  Brace yourself.  There is a paint chip on the hood that is being touched up as we speak.  All the gages work EXCEPT the speedometer and odometer.  Those stopped about a year ago and I never repaired it because I never thought I would be selling it plus who cares because fast is fast baby.  (and passport tells me speed).  Cruise control doesn't work.  Never tried to fix it, never used it.  Ray knows a shop that can fix the speedometer problem easily.  I honestly don't know what it would take to fix the cruise control.

The odometer reads 119k ish but I figure that to be 120-123k.  I drive this car mostly on road trips.  It has the typical slight warping on the rear cap from general age but thats typical with these cars.

I am embarrassed to say that I tossed and turned a bit when I came up with this idea initially but I know in my heart its the right thing to do.  I know whoever buys this car will enjoy it as much as I have and who knows maybe I will have another friend when its all said and done.  My life has been a beautiful adventure and I really believe the friendships I have made are the greatest reward.

Bid knowing that every dollar will go to provide loving care to children born with developmental challenges.  I have seen the miracles that happen in this place every day.

Thank you in advance for your help.

VW may move production because of Russia's cutoff of natural gas

Sun, Sep 25 2022

Volkswagen AG is exploring ways to counter a shortage in natural gas, including shifting production around its network of global facilities, signaling how the energy crisis unleashed by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine threatens to upend EuropeÂ’s industrial landscape. Volkswagen, EuropeÂ’s biggest carmaker, said Thursday that reallocating some of its production was one of the options available in the medium term if gas shortages last much beyond this winter. The company has major factories in Germany, the Czech Republic and Slovakia, which are among European countries most reliant on Russian gas, as well as facilities in southern Europe that source energy from elsewhere. “As mid-term alternatives, we are focusing on greater localization, relocation of manufacturing capacity, or technical alternatives, similar to what is already common practice in the context of challenges related to semiconductor shortages and other recent supply chain disruptions,” Geng Wu, VolkswagenÂ’s head of purchasing, said in a statement.  RussiaÂ’s decision to throttle gas supplies to Europe has raised concerns that Germany might be forced to ration its fuel. Recent news that gas storage levels hit 90% ahead of schedule has soothed fears of acute shortages this winter, but Germany faces a challenge in replenishing depleted reserves next summer without contributions from Russia. Southwestern Europe or coastal zones of northern Europe, both of which have better access to seaborne liquefied natural gas cargoes, could be the beneficiaries of any production shift, a Volkswagen spokesman said by phone. The Volkswagen group already operates car factories in Portugal, Spain and Belgium, countries that host LNG terminals. Labor hurdles To be sure, any major production shift away from EuropeÂ’s biggest economy would face significant hurdles. VW has some 295,000 employees in Germany and worker representatives account for around half the companyÂ’s 20-member supervisory board. Any shift in production would likely involve a limited number of vehicles rather than wholesale factory shutdowns. While gas supplies for VWÂ’s plants are currently secured, the company has identified potential savings at its European sites to cut gas consumption by a “mid-double-digit percentage,” said Michael Heinemann, managing director of VWÂ’s power-plant unit. Still, the carmaker said it was concerned about the effect high gas prices could have on its suppliers.

Amelia Island 2013: Porsche 911 swarms the field marking 50 years of rear-engine goodness

Wed, 13 Mar 2013

Perhaps one of the most iconic sports cars in the world, it was no surprise that the Porsche 911 showed up in numbers to the 2013 Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance. Although the original 911 launched 50 years ago, the original and current models are instantly recognizable as 911s, and since the 911 has a storied racing background, there were probably just as many racing versions of the coupe as there were street-legal versions.
As the show's 2013 honoree, one of the prime racing examples was a 1970 Porsche 911 S raced by Sam Posey. There were so many cars in attendance, we didn't know where to look, but a 1985 911 Speedster concept and a Porsche-owned, rally-ready 911 Type 953 were definitely among the more impressive standouts. As an added bonus, Jacksonville-based Brumos Porsche had many of its classic racecars on display including a beautiful 959.

Hot Wheels goes Outlaw with Magnus Walker Porsches

Tue, Apr 12 2016

Magnus Walker, of Urban Outlaw fame, insists his story is just like that of any kid. But instead of becoming a fireman or an astronaut, Walker's childhood dream was to have a specific car. A Porsche 911 Turbo just like the one he fell in love with at the 1977 Earls Court Motor Show in London, to be exact. Today, he's famous both for having an eye-catching collection of 911s, as well as a compelling story behind them. Walker collaborated with Hot Wheels so a new generation of kids can find their dream, just like he did with that Porsche. Today, Walker and Hot Wheels will unveil the line of diminutive Porsches he helped to create, starting with the company's beginnings: a Porsche 356A. "There was something about this car, the Porsche," Walker told Autoblog last week in his Downtown Los Angeles garage. "You either had the Ferrari Boxer on the wall, a Lamborghini Countach on the wall, or a Porsche Turbo. There was something that attracted me to this car. That dream never went away." Jun Imai, Design Manager at Hot Wheels, said Walker's story and ties to the Porsche name were a match for the maker of toys that are commonly found on a living room rug. "All Hot Wheels cars have a story, just like all the cars in his collection," Imai said. The partnership with Waker, Imai said, is a product of the way Hot Wheels now gauges the pulse of car culture, with inspiration coming from what's parked out on the streets, printed in magazines and being shared on the internet. There was something that attracted me to this car. That dream never went away. "Up until five years ago, we were a V8 muscle car brand," Imai said. "Now it's, 'What is the modern hot rod?' It could be a Porsche or an E30 BMW. Everyone's into something different, so we take that into consideration." Imai said that Walker's collaboration is just that, rather than slapping his name onto a new series of products. "We're not just doing replicas of his car, that's almost obvious and easy," he said. "We thought, let's have him come in, let's have him actually design graphics for the cars where he's an integral process." For Walker, though, the Hot Wheels cars reflect the growing accessibility of car culture. Despite the modern popularity of video games - Magnus made an appearance in the latest Need for Speed game - Walker says the appeal of Hot Wheels spans from the youngest budding enthusiasts to people older than the original 356.
