1986 Porsche 928s Project Restoration Upgrades on 2040-cars
Jasper, Georgia, United States
I purchased this 928S project last year with the intent to restore it, but have been focusing on other projects (928 5 speed) & it doesn't need to sit anymore.
The previous owner told me the water pump failed & it "might" need a head gasket. When the mechanic started inspecting, it was discovered the timing belt mechanism had failed & the timing belt slipped. Most likely that caused damage to the heads. There is little compression in this engine. Either the engine will need to be swapped (my original plan) or the heads rebuilt. The body is straight & true & appears to be free of any prior damage. The interior is not too bad considering the car's age. The battery was dead & removed. The exhaust is complete, including the catalytic converter, as is the suspension, brakes, etc. This car was on the road driving last in January, 2013, so it has not been sitting for years. The tires have decent tread, but have dry-rot & will need to be replaced. The paint has faded sitting in the Georgia sun, but can be brought back to a reasonable shine with a professional buff & wax. Please look at the photos which were just taken for an accurate analysis of the vehicle. The front seats shown came from an '85 parts car & I'm pretty sure they work properly, but they have not been hooked up to verify. This is a non-running project or parts car & priced accordingly. My hope someone will restore it and not use it for parts, as it is pretty good shape. Any winning bid over $3500, I will include a brand new water pump that was purchased shortly after buying the car. NO RESERVE! It will sell to the highest bidder. Good Luck! This car has a clear issue & lien free title. You are responsible for any taxes your state might charge & transportation. When using the ebay shipping calculator, keep in mind carriers charge more for non-running vehicles. I will work closely and promptly with your carrier to ensure prompt delivery. |

Investigators blame speed in fatal Paul Walker crash
Wed, 26 Mar 2014When the tragic news first came in that actor Paul Walker had been killed in a car crash, family, friends and fans were left searching for answers. They now have at least one key question answered, with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department blaming "unsafe speed" for the fatal accident.
According to a statement released by the LACSD, "Investigators determined the cause of the fatal solo-vehicle collision was unsafe speed for the roadway conditions". The investigation into the November, 2013 crash determined that Walker's 2005 Porsche Carrera GT had been driven by his business partner and racer, Roger Rodas, at speeds between 80 and 93 miles per hour - less than the 100+ mph initially suspected, but still far too fast for the road on which they were traveling, which carried a posted limit of 45 mph.
In the investigation into the death of the Fast & Furious star and his friend, some people were quick to finger the Porsche in which they were riding as the culprit. The Carrera GT does, after all, have the reputation of being a notoriously difficult car to control. But after an exhaustive investigation, law enforcement officials in California have vindicated the car and dismissed any mechanical fault as the cause of the accident.
Porsche calls in The Committee for Boxster and Cayman GTS
Thu, 20 Mar 2014Porsche is set to offer up the very first GTS variants of its more affordable Boxster convertibles and Cayman coupes. This is very good news for enthusiasts. Aside from our original post announcing the hotted up models, though, Porsche hasn't given us much to go on.
And you know what? This video isn't much of help either. It's called The Committee, and we're guessing it's meant to highlight the lengths that Porsche went to in designing what are essentially sportier trim levels for its two most affordable entries. Still, it's a stylized and entertaining video with a few entertaining driving scenes scattered throughout, and it gives just a small glimpse of Porsche's view of the vaunted GTS badge.

Roger Rodas' widow suing Porsche over Carrera GT crash
Tue, 13 May 2014
Investigations undertaken by local law enforcement may have vindicated Porsche from any wrongdoing in the crash that killed actor Paul Walker and racing driver Roger Rodas last year, but the latter's widow is apparently not convinced. According to emerging reports, Kristine Rodas has filed a lawsuit seeking unspecified damages from Porsche Cars North America.
In her suit filed with the Los Angeles Superior Court, Rodas' attorney Mark Geragos reportedly disputes the findings of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, which asserted that the vehicle was traveling at an unsafe speed of 90 miles per hour on city streets, identifying the speed as the cause of the accident. Instead the lawsuit claims that the vehicle was only going 55 mph and that the cause of the crash was improper equipment - namely a faulty right rear suspension and the lack of a crash cage and proper fuel tank.
