1984 Porsche 928S

The 1984 model had increased horsepower and changed from a 3- to a 4-speed automatic transmission, retaining a simple emissions system.
A desirable model from the early production years which cost $38,000 new and was one of the fastest production cars of 1984.
The car tracks well and drives smoothly and is a reliable GT road car with many miles left in it.
It is a safe driver with a great stance and a level, taut quiet suspension.

SoCal car culture bids farewell to an LA motoring landmark

Thu, Apr 28 2016

It had a good run, but after 84 years, LA's iconic 6th Street Bridge is being torn down and replaced with a new structure. Magnus Walker gathered members of Southern California's legendary car culture to say goodbye. The East 6th Street bridge is just one of the hundred-plus spans that cross the Los Angeles River, built during the boom era of the 1930s, but it's among the most iconic. It spans the river and the rail yards from the industrial area to the West Side that's rapidly gentrifying as LA's Arts District. Unfortunately the concrete that was laid down way back in the 1932 is far beyond repair at this point. So after years of patchwork and tentative maintenance, the local authorities are taking it down and replacing it with a new bridge in a process that's expected to take four years. The destruction of the landmark is sad news for the people who have come to embrace it as one of the city's most memorable structures – people like Magnus Walker. The so-called Urban Outlaw, known as much for his offbeat style as he is for customizing Porsches, put out word to the tuner community that it was time to say goodbye to their beloved bridge, and out they came, looking like something straight out of a Fast & Furious movie. See how it all came together in this latest video from eGarage. Related Video: This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Manage Settings. 2015 Porsche Boxster GTS [w/video]

Thu, 22 May 2014

You know the sound: the startling pop-brraaap-pop-pop shotgun fire of unspent flammables coursing through exhaust pipes that usually signals a raw, naughty powerplant beneath the hood.
But when you're nestled in the Porsche Boxster GTS' snug seats, it's not a crackling small block V8 or a high-strung Italian flat crank making the devilish racket, but rather the new king of the Boxster/Cayman lineup, a 3.4-liter flat-six that produces 330 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque.
Within the emotional vacuum of a spec sheet, the Boxster GTS' pumped-up grunt seems pretty mild, with a gain of only 15 hp and 7 lb-ft, respectively. But the reworked acoustical experience goes a long way towards suggesting the GTS has a trace of racing blood in its veins, and might even be missing its catalytic converters. In addition to the sonorous, centrally positioned tailpipes, the cabin also fills with lovely mechanical strains thanks to the "Sound Symposer" acoustical amplifier that's trickled down into the Boxster/Cayman lineup from the 911 for the first time. Boxster S, we hardly knew ya.

Porsche Cayman GT4 storms Switzerland with 385 hp [w/video]

Tue, Mar 3 2015

Much as we love the Porsche 911 in all its variants, there's definitely a case to be made for the smaller Cayman as the best-driving sports car in the company's lineup. We adore it in all forms, and most recently fell madly in love with the new Cayman GTS. But here at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show, Porsche has unveiled a truly special, range-topping variant of its mid-engine coupe: the GT4. And after seeing it in person, we're pretty much head-over-heels in love. That's because the GT4 is the most hardcore variant of the Cayman yet, using a 385-horsepower version of Porsche's 3.8-liter flat-six, derived from the 911 Carrera S. It sends power to the rear wheels solely via a six-speed manual transmission with dynamic gearbox mounts, and we're told the hot new coupe will sprint to 60 miles per hour in just 4.2 seconds – a full half-second quicker than the 340-hp Cayman GTS. Building upon that, the GT4 uses a host of chassis components from the potent 911 GT3, and offers further upgrades like ceramic brakes and carbon fiber bucket seats. This should make for one seriously track-worthy machine, and Porsche already says that the GT4 will run the Nurburgring in a scant 7:20 – the same time as the 2011 911 GT3. It's all very awesome, this GT4. To say we're stoked would be a gross understatement. Look for it to hit Porsche dealers in July, starting at $84,600. This content is hosted by a third party. A New Member of Porsche's GT Family The benchmark in its class: the Porsche Cayman GT4 Atlanta, Feb. 3, 2015 - Porsche's GT family is proud to announce the addition of an exciting new member: the Cayman GT4. This is the first Porsche GT sports car based on the Cayman and features components of the 911 GT3. Clocking a lap time of 7 minutes and 40 seconds on the North Loop of the Nurburgring, the Cayman GT4 earns the same lap time as the 2011 911 GT3 and positions itself as the new benchmark atop its market segment. The Cayman GT4 clearly demonstrates Porsche's dedication and passion to continue to promote truly industry-leading two-door sports cars in the future – sports cars that are developed at the Motorsport department in Weissach. The engine, chassis, brakes, and aerodynamic design of the Cayman GT4 are configured for maximum driving dynamics while retaining the versatility and everyday utility that are typical of the two-seater Porsche coupe.
