Up for bid is this 1977 Porsche 924. It is a coupe, 4 seater. Drivetrain is RWD with 4cyl engine and 4spd manual transmission. Engine is 2.0 liter. Because it was built later in 1977,  it is upgraded from factory’s 95hp to 125hp. Car is garage kept and comes with a car cover.

It has the sports alloy wheels, and removable hard sunroof. Aftermarket radio and a subwoofer speaker box in trunk are the only upgrades of the car, everything else is stock.

THE CAR IS IN EXCELLENT MECHANICAL CONDITION. It has been well maintained and never abused or smoked. An older red paint that a good polish will really liven it up. Disappearing headlights  work very well. All gauges work fine. Mileage shown is around 61200. I can almost believe this to be a true reading based on the overall condition of the car. But I have no way of verifying the correct mileage.

The clutch grabs well and has good pick up. Transmission goes smoothly through all the gears. Tires only have 1000 miles on them. Exhaust is only a few years old. Suspension has no play and needs no work. The weather stripping is very good and the sun roof which is removable is water tight. The windshield and all glass is in good condition as there are no cracks or visible scratches. The AC compressor was removed by a prior owner. Heat works fine. Radio is aftermarket Sony with a remote. Spare tire and jack are in good working condition.

Recently, a new timing belt and a new water pump were installed. We also performed a full tuneup on the car.  Recent work included: oil service, front and rear brakes redone, front struts replaced.
The engine was professionally painted outside the car as can be seen in pictures. The engine compartment and undercarriage are also clean. Headlight motor just stopped working, not sure if wiring or motor is knocked out. It's available for $75.00. Also just installed new Interstate battery.

This car has no rust, other than minor bubbling which I took detailed pictures of (around antenna and Porsche emblem in the front. The floor/trunk panels are in excellent condition, absolutely no rust (see pictures). The undercarriage does not show its age. This is an extraordinary example of an unmolested sports car ready for enjoyment or a much fuller restoration  to bring it back to its glory.  Shipping fees are the buyer's full responsibility.

Car inspection is welcome and recommended but only prior to  the end of the auction or a firm offer has been accepted. .  A PayPal Account is required. Car will be released upon full payment in cash or after a  certified check has cleared the bank. Deposit is nonrefundable under any condition. Cost of shipping documents and any after-sale expenses (if any) are the winning bidder’s responsibility.. You can message me thru eBay for further inquiries or if you are really serious  you can call me at 973-960-2673. (Eastern Standard Time). If you have less than 50 bids, you must email me first to maintain your bid. If you are the lucky bidder, you must be ready to make a PayPal deposit of at least %500.00 to confirm your intent to complete the purchase. Such deposit is nonrefundable should you change your mind. Balance is due in full in 7 days or less via cash, or certified bank check. (No PayPal payment of balance)

Bid as if you will own this car.  Good luck!

P.S. I am forced to relist car due to deceitful, non paying bidder.

China bans military license plates on luxury autos

Wed, 01 May 2013

Driving a vehicle with a military license plate in China provides many privileges. Legally reserved for official vehicles only, the designation apparently allows drivers to enjoy special liberties on the roads, including breaking traffic laws, filling up with free fuel and receiving light-and-siren escorts through congested cities. So attractive are the benefits that there is a secondary market for used legal and counterfeit plates - especially among those wealthy enough to afford luxury cars. But all of that is reportedly coming to an end, as President Xi Jinping, chairman of the Central Military Commission, is on a mission to fight corruption in his country.
A new license plate system goes into effect today, and it is designed to "maintain social harmony, stability and the reputation of the military," says the PLA Daily, the armed forces' official newspaper. While the abuse has been going on for many years, the internet has put the spotlight on the bad behavior, and the negative press does not represent the morals and true colors of the armed forces, say officials.
While military-plated Porsche drivers have been singled out as offenders, Bloomberg notes that all vehicles with engine displacements above 3.0 liters and with a sticker price in excess of about $73,000, will be banned from receiving military plates. This includes vehicles from Audi, Cadillac, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Jaguar, Land Rover, Lincoln and the Volkswagen Phaeton. Even if drivers are savvy enough to circumvent the new issuing system, the military has put technology at toll gates to catch users of counterfeit plates. There has been no word on the punishment if caught.

The dream of the '90s is alive in Porsche 968 retro review

Tue, Jun 30 2015

Only a month after Porsche confirmed that the next-generation Boxster and Cayman will get four-cylinder engines, it is apt that we have a MotorWeek retro review of the 1992 Porsche 968. Porsche hoped the 968 – nee 944 – and its naturally-aspirated, 3.0-liter, four-cylinder would revive sales of its entry-level line, but that didn't happen: going on sale in 1992, 1995 was its last year on the market. This was at a time when a stock 968 coupe cost $39,850, surpassing the out-the-door price of a loaded Chevrolet Corvette. The 968 convertible cost $51,000. That didn't stop MotorWeek's unanimous support of the 968, praising its design, the delivery of its 236 horsepower and 225 pound-feet of torque, and its handling - MotorWeek called it "Pure 90s performance," in spite of some fiddly switchgear and a noisy, firm ride. You can watch the review above. We have a feeling Porsche's four-cylinder fortunes will go much better this time around.

Porsche 911 R, GT3 variant with manual trans, spotted

Thu, Oct 29 2015

The Porsche 911 GT3 is still a strong enthusiast choice in the 911 range, and the GT3 RS has gone more hardcore. But both versions are PDK-only. The upcoming Porsche 911 R, spied undergoing testing in Germany, is tipped to adopt the naturally aspirated engine from the aforementioned GT3, producing somewhere in the neighborhood of 475-500 horsepower. Only instead of an automated dual-clutch transmission, it'll feature a proper manual. Other changes are expected in the form of skinnier tires to provide less grip but a more approachable limit of adhesion. It may or may not feature a small ducktail spoiler at the back. We wouldn't be surprised to see it ditch the four-wheel steering system, either. Weissach may also give it some retro cues as well, but the question all those purists will be asking is how many Porsche will make. The last 911 R yielded only 22 examples way back in 1967. This time they'll have to make far more, but we wouldn't expect this particular version to be exactly what you might call "ubiquitous." No matter how rare, it'll definitely be the purist's choice.
