I have been restoring Porsche 911's and 914's for about 12 years now and know a good project from a nightmare. This is a good project car. The 914's are becoming more valuable so if you can do a reasonable part of this project yourself you can actually come out on the plus side instead of the typical upside down projects. These Porsche are super easy to work on and assemble compared to a 911. Parts are readily available as well as lots of help from enthusiasts in places like 914world.com, 914club.com and Pelicanparts.com. I bought this stalled project car from the previous owner thinking I would get to reassembly by this winter. Pair a body shop that cannot find the time to get to it with my other 4 project cars not moving as fast as I would like and I realize that I will not get to this for quite some time.
The previous owner bought this low mileage 914 totally intact and original in 2011. He soon after discovered some rust and decided to take on the repairs himself. He disassembled everything to be sure no rust was missed. He fixed the infamous hell hole, right longitudinal, the inner left rear quarter panel and inner front left wheel well in the rear outer corner. He cut the rear left quarter off because for easier to access to the inner quarter wall and because he intended to add GT flares. The project pretty much stalled there and I picked it up about 6 months ago. As you can see in the pictures the rear quarter panel and a piece he removed from the front fender need to be put back in place as well as a piece of the floor pan. This will be a quick fix for someone that knows how to weld. The battery tray is included and will have to be welded in place as well. The car includes just about everything you need to put it back together. From what I have noticed it is missing the dash top pad and the rear window. Front windshield Is there and I believe new. The engine is complete with the original fuel injection with computer with harness. The trans is 5 speed and still mounted to the engine. The balance of the body is in remarkably good condition with no rust in the front or rear trunks. The targa top is solid. The rear taillights are pretty decent but one will need to be glued back together. The original bumpers are included as are some nice parts that the previous owner collected. Most items are shown in the pictures. At the buy it now price I will include some earlier chrome bumpers and a rear fiberglass lower valance and new set of stainless steel fuel lines. The car and parts are located in Kenilworth, New Jersey and can be seen Monday - Friday between 8:00 AM and 5:30 PM. I will assist if you want to ship this car. I can have it delivered within 50 miles of Kenilworth but car must be paid for before I load it up on a trailer. I think I have covered it but if you have any questions feel free to ask. Thanks and Happy Bidding! THIS WAS INCORRECTLY LISTED AS A 1973. IT IS A 1976. |

Chris Harris gets filthy in a WRC-ready Porsche 911 RGT
Thu, Jan 15 2015Last time we rode with Chris Harris we were shotgun in the tan leather seat of his used-yet-immaculate Ferrari FF. This time we're strapped into a black racing bucket of a filthy Porsche 911 rally car, one that led Harris to effuse, "I don't think I've driven a more exciting car this year, hypercars included." The thrills come courtesy of a 997-series Cup Car that's been reworked by Tuthill Porsche to run in the RGT-class rally series that will piggyback on five World Rally Championship and European Rally Championship races this year. It's not quite the Rothmans Dakar monster, but the RGT series gives privateers an affordable way into rallying with cars that look different and are different from one another. This one kept its 3.8-liter, 444-horsepower 997 Cup engine, but the 39-milllimeter restrictor drops that to about 350 hp. Beyond that are a new rollcage, gear ratios, suspension, fuel tank, underfloor protection and just about everything else. Said the man who built it, it cost "a lot, and it's still costing." But Harris says even though you "have to have your wits about you," it's a hoot to drive. And this is one of the few times you'll hear the phrase "What a tool!" used as a compliment. Check it out in the video above. News Source: Chris Harris on Cars via YouTube Motorsports Porsche Coupe Off-Road Vehicles Racing Vehicles Performance Videos fia rally WRC chris harris porsche 997
Porsche ready to pick itself up after Le Mans failure
Mon, 23 Jun 2014It's safe to say that things for Porsche didn't go quite as well at Le Mans this year as it might have hoped. After a sixteen-year gap, the winningest manufacturer in endurance racing history returned to the Circuit de la Sarthe this year hoping maybe not for outright victory in its first time back, but definitely a strong finish on which it could build on for next year. All the while it undoubtedly hoped its 911s would hold their own in the GT classes.
Unfortunately for Porsche, neither happened. After racing around the clock, and despite actually leading the festivities for some time, the best its 919 Hybrid could manage was an eleventh-place finish, lagging lamentably behind not only the other LMP1s (like the race-winning Audi) but also a handful of LMP2s. Meanwhile the LMGTE Pro and LMGTE Am titles went to the factory-backed teams of its arch-rivals Ferrari and Aston Martin, respectively.
Not a stellar result, in other words, but Porsche is taking it all in stride - accepting that it has a ways to go while congratulating its vanquishing rivals in the video below. It's good sportsmanship if we've ever seen it. Next year's race starts now.
Porsche says goodbye to Audi's Le Mans team in this classy video
Fri, Dec 16 2016Well, this is cute. You may remember that in 2014 Audi made a video to welcome Porsche, its corporate sibling, back to Le Mans racing. It involved an Audi race car, a farmer on an old Porsche tractor, and the street in front of Porsche HQ. With Audi leaving Le Mans after a successful 18-year run, Porsche is returning the favor with this sort of sappy video. There's not much more to it. The video starts with clips from the original, where the Porsche-diesel-tractor-driving farmer is passed by an Audi R18 that traveled from Ingolstadt to Stuttgart to make some very precise German street graffiti (in English). Then, in the present day, the farmer hears the news of Audi leaving LMP1 and he gets an idea while Joe Cocker's "Up Where We Belong" starts to play. (Yes, seriously.) We won't spoil the ending for you. It still stinks that Audi had to leave Le Mans racing in the wake of the diesel scandal to focus on Formula E racing instead. But it's good to see there are no hard feelings between the two VW Group brands, at least as far as the marketing departments are concerned. We expect the Porsche-Audi sibling rivalry and corporate squabbles to continue behind closed doors, however. Related Video: Audi Porsche Racing Vehicles Videos porsche 919 hybrid
