Up for sale is my 996 2002 red interior grey exterior. Very rare combination that looks best in my opinion. Took me a while to find one. - Convertible top works perfectly. All fluids topped up. - 6 speed manual, you only want the 911 manual. Transmission is smooth. - Oil changes done at reputable NJ shops every 5k. Filters torn down every time to check for metal. - Daily driver, but always garaged. Therefore not subject to neglect issues - ims, rms etc. also, late 996 model with less issues - All lenses recently professionally cleaned, headlight bulbs changed. - All books and records from me and the last owner. I had the car inspected pre-purchase. Both keys - Paint is in good condition. Original. Minor road chipping in the front. Have to look close to see. 2 scratches caused by idiotic parking skills. All polished but haven't touched up. I tried to capture this in pictures. Original covers for bumpers are included. Have a couple of scratches. I never used them as I have a hitch plate. This is very rare and will be included with buy it now price. The plate itself is $400 if you can find one. It allows to use a class 1 hitch devices, I use a bike rack all the time. - Interior is in great shape for its age. Some scratches on the center console, dashboard has full leather option. Have the aux cable that will be included. Leather has been cleaned, the steering wheel has been replaced with an OEM one 10k ago. - Rear tires are new, fronts didn't need replacing. Wheels are in great condition - Original tools, spare tire, jack. - The car is available to show in weehawken NJ or Williamsburg NY. - Only selling as I'm moving and don't have a garage for the 911 anymore. Would love to keep it, the ultimate car. Anything from a twisty road on Sunday to hauling Home Depot supplies. Cheaper to insure than boxsters that I had before. 21 mpg combined, 25 highway. Mostly NJ highway. I have owned a number of Porsches over the years, this one is a great example. - Ask me questions. No dealers please, this car deserves a great new home. There is a lien on the title with my credit union, which is extremely easy to work with. The loan is in good standing and will be closed on purchase. |

Porsche 918 Spyder goes ice drifting in Finland
Fri, Feb 13 2015Along with the Ferrari Laferrari and McLaren P1, the Porsche 918 Spyder is one of the trio of hybrid supercars potentially defining the path for these rarified vehicles going forward. When thinking about high-performance machines like this, the mind usually goes to precise driving around a circuit or maybe along a beautifully undulating road... not so much in the snow. Still, this group has more than enough power to make it through a little bit of powder, and the 918 proves that at the Porsche Driving Experience winter camp in Finland. Although, the set of studded snow tires certainly helps. Even with the trick all-wheel drive system in the Porsche combining a mid-mounted V8 and electric motors, this 918 has absolutely no problem lighting up the rear end in the snow and ice. Even at relatively low speeds, just a blip of the throttle is all it takes for the back tires to step out. However, the handling still looks quite controllable. It's hard to grin as this rare supercar does the Scandinavian Flick to set up a perfect drift between the snow banks.
Why won't automakers slap on a turbo badge anymore?
Thu, Sep 10 2015Where have all the turbos gone? Not the actual pieces that go in the engine, mind you, those are everywhere these days as automakers downsize cylinder counts and boost efficiency and CO2 claims. But the turbo badges and fanfare are missing. Back when turbos were something to get excited about there was "turbo-driven," "turbonium," and "The Turbo Zone," among other silly lines. But now that basically every car is getting some sort of boost even on the lowliest trims, automakers are almost sliding in the turbos under the radar. Or if you look at some of the nomenclature, pretending they don't exist at all. The 911 Turbo badge shows where the car goes from being sane to lunatic. It's an important border. The latest automaker to hide that it has boosted the turbo presence is Porsche with the 2017 911 lineup. Even the standard Carrera models now get turbocharged flat-six engines, meaning the 911 Turbo models aren't quite as special as they once were. Porsche is in a sticky situation with this. The 911 Turbo, after all, signifies where the 911 family takes off from being a sports car and becomes the Ferrari fighter. The 911 Turbo badge shows where the car goes from being sane to lunatic. It's an important border, but now Porsche has crossed it and is trying to downplay the fact. There are a lot of exaggerations with displacement badges today, with claims the 2.0-liter turbo four in a Mercedes C Class equates to a naturally aspirated 3.0-liter six to make a C300. Volvo is pretty far up there, too, saying an XC90 T8 means V8 power, even though it's a 2.0-liter turbocharged and supercharged four with electric assist. I don't know why BMW can't just call the car a 330i Turbo, rather than inflating the numbers up to 340i. Saab tried all of this back in the '90s when it decided to turbocharge its entire lineup, from light pressure units all the way up to models actually called "Saab 9-3 HOT" (for high-output turbo). But then the brand deleted any external reference to the turbo under the hood and people wondered why they were buying a $42,000 four-cylinder convertible. And that didn't turn out well. Even though these turbo replacements often make more power than their naturally aspirated predecessors, they're very different engines. People knew something changed when they exchanged their leased 328i with a 3.0-liter six for a 328i with a 2.0-liter turbo four.
Audi says fixing diesel emission problem is simple
Fri, Dec 11 2015Audi reportedly has a simple repair nearly ready to fix the emissions problem on 85,000 vehicles with the 3.0-liter TDI V6 in the US. "Swift, straightforward and customer-friendly solutions are in discussion," company exec Rupert Stadler told workers in Germany, according to Reuters. In late November, Audi announced that the 3.0 TDI had three previously undisclosed auxiliary emission control devices, including one that was potentially considered a defeat device under US law. At the time, the German automaker claimed it could repair the problem with just a software update. Stadler's statement indicates that just such a simple fix might be on the way. Even before Audi's disclosure of the emission control devices, the Environmental Protection Agency issued a notice of violation against the 3.0-liter TDI for allegedly having software to defeat emissions tests, and the agency later expanded the scope to any vehicle with the engine from 2009 through 2016. The affected models include the Audi A6, A7, A8, Q5, Q7, Volkswagen Touareg, and Porsche Cayenne. New diesel versions of these vehicles have a stop-sale. Audi offered owners of affected vehicles the same $1,000 Goodwill Package that parent company VW offered to its affected diesel owners. The money is split up into a $500 gift card and $500 to spend at the Audi dealer. The package also comes with extended roadside assistance. Audi needs to find a solution quickly because it's under a 45-day deadline from the California Air Resources Board to submit a recall plan for the 15,000 vehicles with the 3.0 TDI in the state. The automaker also must include a report on any effects to fuel economy and performance from the proposed repair. Related Video:
