Extremely Clean & Nicely-optioned Tiptronic Turbo Cabriolet. Outstanding Colors on 2040-cars
Emeryville, California, United States
2008 Porsche Turbo Cabriolet Tiptronic
Introduced for the 2005 model year, the 997 generation of the Porsche 911 addressed many of the complaints about the 996 generation before it. Having almost gone out of business in the early 1990s, Porsche embarked on an aggressive program to reduce the cost of building cars by enhancing the efficiency of the manufacturing process and by designing cars that were themselves less costly to produce. The 996 emerged from this new type of thinking, and together with the Boxster, reversed the company’s decline and laid the groundwork for the success the company now enjoys. Critics complained that while the 996 drove well, the quality and aesthetics had suffered, and the 997 brought both higher quality and exceptional good looks back to the forefront of the Porsche 911 value proposition. The cars were available in a wide range of variants with the Turbo lying at the intersection of blindingly fast and also surprisingly usable. Although it produces 480hp and is capable of 0-60 in 3.4 seconds and a top speed of 193mph, the car has all wheel drive and is quiet, refined, and provides surprisingly accessible performance. Coupled with automatic transmission, the car is imminently usable as an every day car. This particular car is a two-owner California car that was sold new at Porsche of Livermore to a Software Executive who bought it for his wire. The car is heavily optioned, including many Porsche Exclusive options. The options include: silver faced gauges, Tiptronic S transmission, heated seats, 363mm leather steering wheel, painted rocker panels, steering column casing in leather, color coded sport seat backrests, embossed headrests with Porsche crests, inner sill finishers in leather, door finishers in leather, rear section of center console in leather, and leather sun visors. The car was regularly dealer serviced and is in exceptional cosmetic condition. It is clear that the car was carefully driven and stored, and its cosmetic condition is consistent with a car that has covered 15,000 or 20,000 miles. The paintwork is in very good condition, with a few minor marks from road use, but no major blemishes. The underside of the front spoiler shows some scraping, but nothing major, and the front of the car as well as the side mirrors, door edges and door handle recesses are protected by clear bra. The glass and lights are in excellent shape with only light road wear to the windscreen. The panels are straight and fit correctly. The interior is in equally impressive, if not more impressive condition. There are virtually no signs of wear or aging anywhere. The leather on the driver’s seat has very few signs of wear or use, and the extensive leather trim, which covers even the sills, dashboard, center console, door caps, and sun visors, is all in excellent shape. The only indicated wear is near the key hole and perhaps a bit of shine to the steering wheel rim. The carpets, switches, instruments, and controls are all like new. The engine compartment and trunk are equally impressive in condition, appearing essentially as new. The engine is extremely clean, with hardly any dust or dirt to speak of, while the trunk appears like new and is complete with factory tire compressor and tools. The car is effortless to drive yet tremendously fast. It is tractable and perfectly happy cruising in town but is explosively fast when desired. The chassis is composed and stiff, but the ride surprisingly comfortable while the brakes are exceptional. In all, the car is massively capable when desired, and very mild-mannered and civilized at the same time. This is an exceptional opportunity to acquire a very clean Turbo Cabriolet that is heavily optioned and finished in a beautiful color combination. A 2-owner California car, this example is in excellent shape and will represent an exhilarating driver when called upon, and a perfectly well-behaved car otherwise. It is complete with extensive manual pack, tools, and compressor. TERMS AND CONDITIONS: This car is sold AS IS without warranty. A 10% deposit is due upon the successful completion of the auction. Remainder of payment is due within one week of the end of the auction, and prior to the delivery of the vehicle. Chris Harris hits the track in the Porsche 911 GT3 RS
Sat, May 23 2015One of the wonderful things about Chris Harris on Cars is the enthusiasm that the host brings to the screen. Granted, it would be hard not to enjoy a day driving around in a supercar that you don't own. Still, Harris brings a sense that he knows how rare these opportunities are and relishes them. In his latest look at the two sides of the latest Porsche 911 GT3 RS, you can tell this guy is having a lot of fun. The GT3 RS is a 500-horsepower, track-focused weapon, but it's expected to drive to and away from the circuit after a day of laps. Therefore, Harris decides to evaluate the attributes of this Porsche in both environments. On the road, he sweeps an orange example over some beautifully, undulating German backroads but keeps things rather tidy. However, in the latter half of the video, he arrives at the Weissach test track for a go in a purple RS. There, he really lets the rear hang out.
2015 Porsche Cayman GTS
Thu, 29 May 2014The Porsche Boxster and Cayman will forever nip at the heels of their big brother, the 911 Carrera, and perpetuating this tradition are the latest GTS variants, which add yet another arrow to the quiver of the plucky mid-engined platform.
The GTS' performance enhancements boost horsepower by a mere 15 and shave a tenth from 0 to 60, but Porsche's clever product planners and engineers have stuck to their familiar formula in making the Cayman GTS more desirable than the Boxster for dyed-in-the-wool performance enthusiasts. More on that shortly.
Laps around Spain's Circuito Mallorca RennArena and the nearby Serra de Tramuntana mountain range would shed further light on how the GTS differentiates itself from lesser Caymans.
2015 Porsche Panamera S First Drive
Wed, Mar 18 2015Porsche brought the Panamera in for its garage makeover and drove it out looking almost exactly the same. Turns out it was one of those fancy German refreshes where everything happens in places you can't immediately see, as we found recently on the 2015 Volkswagen Jetta TDI. The marquee revision across the lineup is under the hood, where every engine gets, at the very least, more power. Such is the case for the naturally aspirated V6 in the entry models, fitted with an increase of 10 horsepower for a total of 310. The same goes for the naturally-aspirated 4.8-liter V8, which lives only in the Panamera GTS now, and gets 10 more hp for a total of 430. That same V8, twin-turbocharged in the Turbo model, is graced with 20 more ponies for 520 hp. The mightiest marquee revision is saved for the S models, which surrender their use of the 4.8-liter V8 and get a 3.0-liter, all-aluminum, twin-turbocharged V6 in its place. It's a brand-new engine designed in-house and related to the 3.6-liter V6 in the base models, but with new features like a magnesium timing chain cover, variable camshaft timing for the intake and the exhaust valves, and a new fuel- injection system. Putting out 420 hp and 384 pound-feet of torque, it's got 20 more hp and 15 more lb-ft than the V8 it replaces. What's more, torque used to peak from 3,500 to 5,000 rpm, but the new torque curve maintains maximum twist from 1,750 to 5,000 rpm. It is less thirsty as well, posting an estimated fuel economy of 17/27 miles per gallon city/highway, besting the 16/24 city/highway of before. An improved stop-start mechanism contributes to this, as it cuts the engine earlier, and the coasting function benefits from a new disc clutch that can decouple the seven-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission from the driveline. As we wrote in our Panamera S E-Hybrid review, you'd need to be obsessed with the Panamera to notice the sheet metal changes around that engine. It's the perfect car to ask, oh so coyly, "Notice anything different about me?" while you stand there dumbfounded, silently thinking, "No." Here is your cheat sheet: the front and back ends are "tighter," meaning faintly more squared off, the front intakes are larger, the tailgate gets wider rear glass over the same-sized opening, the rear spoiler is wider, and the rear license plate bracket has been mounted lower. But even now that you know what the changes are, odds are still 200-to-1 against you actually noticing.
