I am selling my 2001 911 Turbo. I don’t drive it enough to justify keeping it. It is located in Alaska about 3.5 hours from Anchorage. The price is set low to compensate for the inconvenience and cost of shipping from our location. If you want me to drive it to Anchorage I would be happy to save you the money to ship it there if you so desire. It is roughly a grand to have a car put on the barge in Anchorage or shipped by road to Seattle. Or you could make a nice road trip out of it. It is a beautiful time of year.
The car is well optioned and runs very strong. It has the 6 speed manual. It is arctic silver on boxter red. It had its 30k service done last fall. It has one new key about a year old and one spare key. The tires have lots of tread left as you can see in the photos. It has the 6 disc CD changer and a light carbon fiber package(the steering wheel, parking brake handle and shifter knob). It also has navigation with the disk present but it does not load up-- I have never driven it out of Alaska and don’t know if it is just here or it does not work. I have had other older nav units that just did not work when they came up here but did in the lower 48 so I am not sure if it works or not. It has the xenon lights. As with any car of this age it has some wear on the interior-the driver side especially has some deep wrinkles/lines in the leather. There are some minor areas of discoloration in the leather trim that again just come with use. The parking brake and the passenger door have some pitting of the leather-see the photos. There are a few minor scratches on the red trim that is not leather-most have been touched up and are not highly noticeable. The exterior is in good condition. There are some minor light scratches and stone chips. The lower rocker molding under the doors have a fair bit of stone chips that have been touched up-- This is expected on the rocker panels-see photos. The paint on the rims has some craze lines in it on the back. The tires were just changed by the dealer not to long ago and they were fine so it is just a cosmetic issue-see the photos. The lumbar support on the driver's side works but the button needs replaced. The car runs well and even last winter at 10 below it fired right up without hesitation when I needed it in a pinch. Please see the photos and email me with any questions. I still putter around it so it will have a few more miles on it than shown in the photos.
Any questions, please call me at 907-252-0039. I encourage a pre-inspection. We are 3.5 hours from the closest Porsche dealer but I would be happy to have any local mechanic take a look at it that you select.

EVO "2012 Car of the Year: The Track Battles" is a sports car salmagundi

Sun, 25 Nov 2012

EVO has come out with another gotta-watch-it video, throwing its 2012 Car of the Year contestants around the UK's 1.5-mile Blyton Park track. It's actually a 15-minute teaser for the full-length DVD detailing the magazine's Car of the Year selection, but the tease is worth every penny free second.
Tiff Needell and sports car racer Richard Meaden handle the wheel duties, the two driving five pairs of sports cars: Lotus Exige S vs. Porsche Boxster S, Morgan Three-Wheeler vs. Toyota GT86, BMW M135i vs. Porsche 911, Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Black Series vs. Alpina B3 GT3, the marquee event pits the McLaren MP4-12C vs. the Pagani Huayra. After a head-to-head lap with commentary during drifts, Meaden takes each car out to set a representative lap time.
You'll find the verdicts, lots of tire smoke, and lines like "Anything you can do sideways I can do sideways" in the video below.

Porsche suspends 911 GT3 deliveries amidst fears of spontaneous combustion

Mon, 17 Feb 2014

Seeing pictures of Italian supercars burst into flames by the side of the road, as our compatriots at Axis of Oversteer point out, has become something of a usual sight. But a Porsche? Surely those meticulous German engineers have got that taken care of, right?
Not necessarily. Reports coming in from Europe indicate that no fewer than five 911 GT3 coupes have "spontaneously combusted" in the past few weeks, prompting Porsche to launch an investigation. In the meantime, they've reportedly ceased deliveries of the new GT3 while they try to determine what the problem is and work to rectify it.
We wouldn't be surprised to see a recall issued once the problem is resolved, but for now, we'd encourage existing owners to be extra vigilant behind the wheel - or better yet, leave their cars in the garage for the time being. You wouldn't want to drive a 475-horsepower rear-drive sports car through a Polar Vortex, anyway, right?

Porsche 911 GT3 dukes it out with MP4-12C on track and GT-R on spectacular roads

Thu, 22 Aug 2013

The Porsche 911 GT3 has always been a favorite among auto journalists and car enthusiasts alike, but with the introduction of the new 991-generation GT3, which is the first GT3 with electric power steering and no manual gearbox option, how does it stack up to the competition from McLaren and Nissan?
Evo's Jethro Bovingdon attempts to answer that question by pitting the rear-engine Porsche against the mid-engine McLaren MP4-12C on a racetrack and the front-engine, all-wheel-drive Nissan GT-R on some amazing, twisty European back roads. We won't give away the victor of either comparison, but we will say that, in Evo's test, the McLaren's 141-horsepower advantage doesn't give it as much of an edge over the Porsche on a racetrack as one might think, and the lack of a manual gearbox and the inclusion of electric power steering on the GT3 isn't detrimental to enjoying the car on a back road.
Watch the video below to find out which car Bovingdon prefers on road and track - we think you'll be happy to see him drift around turns every chance he gets.
