1999 Porsche Cabriolet Tiptronict: No Reserve High Bid Buys The Car on 2040-cars
Gainesville, Georgia, United States
Being offered for sale is a 1999 Porsche 996 cabriolet. This car is in great condition and the interior and exterior do not show any signs of the car's mileage. The interior and convertible top are in great condition as well as the body. The car has a clean carfax history.
The car has a vibration in the engine and I do not wish to repair it, and would rather sell it as is. The issue was thought to be the clutch, but after having it removed and inspected, only to find nothing wrong, the vibration was not remedied. The reason for the vibration is unknown, though it is only apparent at higher engine RPMs above 4,500 RPM and not at all at idle or at lower speeds. This would be a great car for someone to learn on, or just buy a used engine and throw into the car. I'm trying to be honest and let everyone know about the issue. It could be an easy fix but I don't have the time or resources to address it. Again, the car runs/drives just fine, but there is a slight vibration when above 4500 RPM. I drove the car today to the car wash and noticed the battery was not taking a charge. The voltage gauge indicates the alternator is working, thus I suspect the battery to be bad. The issues with the car very well might be a bad (shorted) battery. I was told this by a "shade tree" mechanic. I'm tired of dealing with it. My loss can be your gain. Magnus Walker pops up again, this time with his Irish Green 911
Sun, 06 Oct 2013He was the subject of a short film called Urban Outlaw. He has been on Jay Leno's Garage. Twice. He even graced the cover of Road & Track in June. And after all of that, he appeared in a video by Hong Kong-based Silly Thing. So it isn't really surprising that Magnus Walker is at the center of attention in the latest video from XCAR, but it's surprising - and a treat - to see his mostly original Irish Green 1966 Porsche 911.
Powered by an air-cooled 2.0-liter flat six with 130 horsepower (more like 120 hp today, Walker says), riding on 5.5-inch wide wheels and turned with a wooden steering wheel, the little green 911 does represent some of the best aspects of classic car motoring.
Head on below to watch the long-form video on Walker and his Porsche, but if your time is limited, you're not missing much if you call it quits at five minutes - especially if you've seen his aforementioned videos before.
Porsche 918 Spyder officially priced from $845K, Weissach package $84K more
Wed, 23 Jan 2013Porsche has released official pricing for its entire lineup of 2013 models, which just happens to include the upcoming 918 Spyder hybrid supercar. The 795-horsepower advanced-technology-lab-on-wheels is now officially confirmed to have a starting price of $845,000 in the US, which is the exact amount we were told earlier when we had the opportunity to ride shotgun in some 918 Spyder pre-production test vehicles.
What we didn't know at the time was the cost of the Weissach trim package, which is a high-performance upgrade to the standard vehicle that includes the deletion of some interior amenities and addition of lighter-weight carbon fiber appointments, magnesium wheels, flame-resistant upholstery, racing belts and aerodynamic aids - it's meant for track-going folk who intend to use their 918 Spyders as God, country and manufacturer intended.
All told, the Weissach package should drop the 918 Spyder's curb weight by some 80 pounds, while also lightening your wallet of an additional $84,000 - the car's MSRP with the Weissach package is $929,000. These prices don't, however, include destination charges, which, for something like the very limited edition 918 Spyder (only 918 will be made), could very well cost considerably more than your average Porsche.
eGarage video features Helmuth Bott's personal Porsche 959 prototype
Fri, 12 Apr 2013"We thought we were going to build a super-911," said Peter Schutz, former CEO of Porsche AG of the development of the Porsche 959. That was before it started getting expensive. At that point, Helmuth Bott, Porsche R&D director got frightened. Costs ballooned because of the all-wheel drive, sequential turbocharging and other technology Porsche had never even thought about when it set out to build a 911 to compete in Group B. Schutz continued, "The amount of resources we were committing got totally out of hand." Instead of pulling the plug, Bott doubled down and drew on the strength of his brilliant team to build a car whose impact is still echoing aross the industry.
"It's probably one of our most prized possessions" says Don Leatherwood, Director of the Brumos collection where Dr. Bott's personal prototype resides, and where Frazer Spowart went to see the car and create a video for eGarage. Check out the sights and sounds of the 959 before it was the 959, and get personal takes on the car from Hurley Haywood, Peter Schutz and Don Leatherwood. Keep reading to see the video.
