The Von Pair-Matched
Advantage: Regardless of brand,
identically configured shocks can generate widely varying damping
forces. All shocks are built with
manufacturing tolerances that make damping forces deviate from the design
target. Despite using good designs
and precision components, the best commercial shock manufactures accept
finished product tolerances that are typically +/-15%. That means that by luck of
the draw two new, "identical", tested-good shocks picked
from the shelf could vary in damping forces by up to 30%.
Cheap shocks can be much worse! Imagine the quirky, uneven
handling caused by left and right shocks that vary by
30%. This can cause an uneasy feeling of not being planted, a hard
to quantify sensation that the car just isn't "right" despite
seemingly having all the best parts and setup. The car doesn't
inspire driver confidence, and it doesn't go fast. Worse yet is the difficulty
of diagnosing these types of problems. Without access to a
computershock dyno, the suspension tuner is left groping in the
dark. Any serious suspension tuner
absolutely must have a computer shock dyno plot for
all shocks. This simply cannot be
over-emphasized. It doesn't matter if
your shocks are brand new, or freshly custom valved, or come from the
most reputable manufacturer, or the best-known shop - you MUST have a
computer shock dyno plots for your actual shocks (not a
sample from a similarly configured shock). Without the dyno plot,
you simply have no idea of what your shocks are doing, what
irregularities they may contain or conceal. Testing - Every
single Von shock is tested on our
computer shock dyno. The dyno plot is delivered along
with the shock. We keep the dyno plot in our database to
support you going forward. This dyno plot is used as a
baseline of comparison should we ever test your shocks to analyze
wear, damage, or help you diagnose handling quirks. The dyno plot
also let's us Pair-Match your shocks. Pair-Matched - Von shocks are
built in batches, and every single shock is tested on our
computershock dyno. Using the batch's dyno plots, we hand select
pairs that have similar performance curves. The shocks are then
delivered as matched pairs. Pair-matching
allows Von shocks to deliver performance consistency that is
unrivaled. You are assured that your shocks are tested-good and
will function as a pair to deliver matching damping
performance.

Autocar pits Porsche 911 Turbo S against Formula 4 racer
Fri, 20 Jun 2014There is a long-running argument among performance car fans: power vs. weight. In one corner you get cars generally with small engines making modest numbers but able to corner like they are telepathic, and in the other there are big thumping mills that are rocketships in a straight line but lumber in the turns. Autocar takes an interesting look this continuum in a recent video pitting a 552-hp Porsche 911 Turbo S against a 185-hp Formula 4 racecar. It hopes to find whether the Porsche's huge power advantage is enough to defeat the better grip and aero offered by the nimble racer.
There's no doubt that the Porsche is an utterly fantastic road car. The 911 Turbo looks mean with all of those intakes to suck in cool air, and it backs up the posture with huge amounts of grip available thanks to its all-wheel drive-system. However, at 3,538 pounds, it's a bit of a porker compared to the 1,135-pound Formula 4 car. The open-wheel car boasts just a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder from Ford and a six-speed sequential-manual gearbox, but it has loads of downforce to make up for it.
It shouldn't be a surprise that the formula car wins in the corners. After all, that's what it's made for. So do you think the massive horsepower superiority of the Porsche is enough to even the playing field? Scroll down to watch the video and find out, and even if you're not curious of the winner the 911 does some mean powerslides.
Porsche testing new 911 GTS
Wed, 28 May 2014Porsche may have one more vehicle in its stable with the GTS moniker, if these spy shots are any indication. They show off the presumed 911 GTS lapping the track - the model meant to slide in under the GT3 to be a bit more driver-friendly but still very fast alternative to a stock Carrera.
At first glance, it might look like any other 911, but the devil is in the details. The most obvious among the differences are two centrally mounted exhaust outlets, rather than the ones closer to the corners on most of the current models. They also aren't perfectly in the center like the GT3. The taillights are also somewhat thicker than the current ones, and the rear decklid is split into three exposed sections.
This is the third time we've seen the presumed GTS. The first was as a coupe late last year. Then it showed up again in March testing in convertible form. Although, that version also sported fender vents at the rear.
Vintage 911 sacrificed in the name of fashion
Fri, Jul 31 2015People routinely suffer in the name of looking good, whether through a pair of uncomfortable, stylish shoes or a nice shirt that doesn't breathe in the summer heat. Rarely is a vintage sports car the recipient of this sartorial pain, though. In a bizarre, short video from the fashion label Rag & Bone, an old Porsche 911 is the one taking all of the damage in the name of being chic. And it's really painful to watch. Give this video a few seconds to get going because it starts very weird (fashion!). Black smoke billows up through a hole in a harshly lit white room, and a woman keeps switching outfits. If the attempt at being artsy isn't painful enough, things get really traumatic for Porsche fans once the 911 appears on screen. Seeing a classic car get destroyed hasn't been this harrowing since the government publicly destroyed an illegally imported, classic Mini last winter. Thankfully, this 911 was reportedly just a shell, according to Jalopnik. Although even if that's the case, the body looks to be in great shape, and from the tiny glimpse through the windows, the interior even looks largely intact. This coupe might have been a pretty good restoration candidate if not for the massive hunk of concrete crashing through the roof to make a fashion video.
