1984 Porsche 911 Targa Project Roller on 2040-cars
Evans, Georgia, United States

I am selling my 1984 Porsche 911 Targa Project car. I had recently intended to restore or convert this into a cabriolet but have other projects first in line. Rather than store it for several years I would rather free up the space in my garage. Would make a great speedster project or cabriolet conversion or possibly a track car. Please email me with any questions and I will be happy to take pictures of any area around the car. Inspections can be set up to view the car as well. I will do my best to describe the condition of the car. PLEASE ASK BEFORE BIDDING. General Condition of the Car: This is a rust free car from close inspection in and around the car. The previous owner had painted the car poorly and it has been sanded in certain areas around the car. Looks like there is no clear coat. The car will need to be repainted. There is also red overspray on some of the suspension pieces and other parts of the car. I do not see any body damage with exception to the engine deck lid which looks like it was pounded out and smoothed out but i dont know if it was even orginal with the car. Floors are in great condition. i have not attempted to wash or clean the car(except vacuuming) in attempt to hide anything. From what i was told the motor was shot and a previous owner in the cars history had started to part it out before the left overs were sold. The gentlemen i purchased it from was starting to source the parts to restore before he lost interest. This is not a salvage vehicle according to the Illinois title. The car is a roller with what looks to be complete front and rear suspension. Rims/Tires look to be from a porsche 944. Rims also have a light overspray which looks like it will clean up. What I know: No Engine or Transmission. There are some interior pieces but alot of them will need restoring. I do not have a full inventory of all the pieces. No front seats. No front windshield. Targa top frame is there but in rough shape. It will need restoring and new hardware. Back seats are there but leather is not great with red overspray from the sloppy paint job. Have the gauges but they are not in the best shape(bent bezel and few scratches ect). Oil tank is ASK QUESTIONS BEFORE BIDDING! This is a project car with missing parts. I have the title from the previous owner and my bill of sale. The vehicle is sold as is with no implied or expressed warranty. $500 Deposit is due within 24 hours of auction end. The balance will be due within 72 hours of auction close by money order/cashiers check or cash in person. Shipping: I will help assist the buyer in loading and un loading onto a trailer. When i purchased this car I had it shipped across country in an enclosed car hauler which can be found easily on the internet. I can even recomend the hauler I used. I would not recomend a large car carrier(semi) as they will have have trouble navigating around the streets of my subdivision. |

Jay Leno's Dodge Challenger raises $585k for USO in Scottsdale
Mon, Jan 19 2015Of all the metal moved in Scottsdale, AZ, this holiday weekend, the one you see here was hardly the most expensive. But it's noteworthy for another reason: despite being a relatively humble, second-hand 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8, raised an impressive $565,625. That's because, first of all, it belonged to Jay Leno, and secondly because the proceeds were going to the USO. Leno donated the modern muscle car from his collection to benefit our men and women in uniform, and was on hand to present the car on stage at the Gooding & Company auction, along with USO president J.D. Crouch II and former Army chief of staff General George W. Casey, Jr. After frenzied and patriotic bidding, the gavel ultimately dropped at $360,000, accompanied by over $200,000 in additional contributions, bringing the total amount donated to the USO to over half a million. Commendable though it was, of course the Challenger didn't garner the highest bids at the auction. A 1959 Ferrari 250 GT LWB California Spider sold for $7.7 million and a 1968 Ferrari 330 GTS fetched $2.4 million. A rare 1962 Ferrari 400 Superamerica Series I Coupe Aerodinamico sold for over $4,070,000 – which, according to Sports Car Market, is the most ever paid at auction for a 400 Superamerica. And a 1966 Porsche 906 Carrera 6 also sold for a record $1.98 million. 1983 Motorweek showdown pits Porsche 928S vs. Chevy Camaro Z28
Mon, Jan 12 2015Last month, Motor Trend threw the Camaro Z/28 and Porsche 911 GT3 into the bear pit and let them fight it out. Way back in 1983, MotorWeek had the same idea, comparing the Camaro Z/28 to the Porsche 928S. At the time, the Camaro was America's best selling sports coupe, the 928S was Porsche's top-of-the-line model that also had the highest top speed of any car sold here. And the price differential was even more stark then: $13,600 for the Camaro, $45,000 for the Porsche. That put the Z/28's cast-iron, 5.0-liter V8 with 190 horsepower and 240 pound-feet of torque against the all-aluminum 4.7-liter V8 with 234 hp and 263 lb-ft in the 928S. Even with that and the Camaro being 14 inches longer than the Porsche, the American was a surprising 40 pounds lighter than the German. The show took them to Summit Point Raceway in West Virginia to see how close a relative performance bargain could hang with a the German GT. Both had five-speed manual transmissions, but the high-speed corners and tight sections of Summit Point would test other handling variables, including the "bone-rattling" Camaro's solid rear axle and disc and drum brake setup vis-a-vis the four-wheel disc brakes and independent suspension on the "firm-but-smooth" Porsche. Paradoxically, the larger disparity 22 years ago resulted in a closer result. Check out the video to see how the Summit was won. Vintage-ish Porsche 911 buying guide
Tue, Jul 21 2015Harry Metcalfe is always great at showing viewers the intricate details of the vehicles in his collection as part of the Harry's Garage series. This time he's helping out future buyers by explaining what to look for when purchasing a classic and slightly more modern Porsche 911. His examples for this lesson are two absolute beauties that are about to cross the block from Silverstone Auctions in the UK: a 1972 2.4 S and a 1991 964-chassis RS Clubsport. The '72 in creamy white here epitomizes the look of early 911s. The coupe is handsome, purposeful, and fairly compact by modern standards. According to Metcalfe, when looking at one, don't worry about a wobbly gearshift. Apparently, they're all like that, even ones as well cared for as this example. As with any used car purchase, he recommends trying to get as many service records as you can. It's just good to know as much about the vehicle's life as possible before throwing down any cash. Where the '72 911 shows the more gentlemanly side of the brand, the '91 RS Clubsport is Porsche proving the company's performance credentials. Metcalfe slightly dings the switch to an aftermarket air filter here, but overall it's hard to find a major fault. These cars were essentially road-going racers in this trim. The engineers in Zuffenhausen chopped out as much weight as possible and then fitted Recaro racing buckets and a roll cage. This thing was meant clock as many laps around the 'Ring as the driver could stand.
