This 1964 356C hardtop coupe is certified by Porsche Cars North America as authentic. Having the benefit of a recent full restoration, the paint, interior, engine, transmission, and chassis are all in impeccable condition. The fit and finish of the red leather interior compliments the exterior factory color of champagne yellow (but not original color). The paint is bright and even, showing zero dents or dings in the body of the car. The fenders and all major panels of the car are original. There is no bondo on this car. The largest negative feature of this 356 is the horn cover on the steering wheel, which has a minor crack in it. These are no longer available, unless one finds an original piece to replace it. Engine: Air-cooled 356 b 1600S flat 4. Engine# 710991 Chassis: #215839 Model: 1964 356C Karmann Coupe Suspension/Brakes: All suspension components have been refurbished or replaced. The brakes are virtually new and feel strong. Interior: All interior lights and switches work. Including blinkers, windshield wipers, and high beams. The tach, speedometer, and odometer all work as they should. Mileage on odometer is not original, but reflects miles put on the car since its restoration. Original Blaupunkt radio is installed, though not currently hooked up. The interior leather is of the highest quality and sourced from a local porsche interior supplier. The fit and finish of the front and rear seats, door cards, and carpets are all neat and in fine order. Zero tears or stains. The interior of this car smells and looks new and fresh. Exterior: All chrome on this car is perfect. There is ZERO rust or pitting on any of the bumpers or accents. Both doors, as well as the hood and trunk lid close securely, with even panel gaps. All four wheels have no curb rash and present really well. Engine: The 1600cc 356b S engine recently had a full servicing of all fluids, new spark plugs, and the carbs and valves finely tuned. The engine is fed by twin solex carburetors. The car starts briskly, even from a cold start, idles strongly, and pulls strongly through all of its four gears. The battery is new and has always been kept on a tender. There are many details to be addressed when selling a classic vehicle. This one is represented as accurately as possible. James May's 1984 Porsche 911 is priced to sell at Goodwood
Thu, Jun 18 2015James May needs money. He's out of work, has payments to make on his Ferrari, and has resorted to doing less than stellar work to make ends meet. He and his colleague Richard Hammond sold their motorcycles to raise some extra scratch, and now Captain Slow is selling his Porsche, too. Of course, with years of paychecks form Top Gear and other TV appearances, several books, and a weekly column in The Daily Telegraph, it's unlikely that May is worried about debtor's prison. Mostly because that doesn't exist in the UK anymore, but also because he's probably loaded. The vehicle in question is a 1984 Porsche 911 Carrera, complete with air-cooled 3.2-liter flat-six. He became acquainted with the car in 2007 when he borrowed it from specialist Paul Devyea to record a Radio 4 documentary, and evidently fell in love, so he bought it. He even had it on air for a couple of specials for Top Gear and James May's Toy Stories. He loaned it to his dad for a while, but with his time on Top Gear now at an end, he's consigned it to Bonhams (the same house that handled his bike sale) to auction off at the upcoming Goodwood Festival of Speed. Its pre-sale estimate is quoted at GBP28,000-34,000 ($44-53k), which would seem a bit low – especially considering its celebrity provenance and low 55,000 miles on the odometer. Bonhams specialist Sholto Gilbertson tells Autoblog that "the estimate placed on the car has been designed to attract interest and ultimately achieve a stronger price for Mr. May."
Porsche planning Cayman GT4 racer
Fri, 10 Oct 2014To say that Porsche is big in racing is like saying that Warren Buffett dabbles in mergers and acquisitions. But while it fields the 919 Hybrid at Le Mans and in the FIA World Endurance Championship, the bulk of its racing activities are undertaken by private teams that buy customer racecars from the factory. Those in turn are largely based on the 911, but the latest intel from the motor racing world indicates that Zuffenhausen is planning a more accessible customer race car.
The new, more affordable competition car is to be based on the Cayman and built to GT4 specifications, slotting in below the 911-based GT3 Cup, GT3 R and RSR. Autosport reports that Porsche has already developed a prototype and will shortly commence testing. Details are scarce at the moment, but the Cayman GT4 would seem to compete against the likes of the Aston Martin Vantage N24, Nissan 370Z Nismo GT4 and Maserati GranTurismo MC. It will also likely help Porsche foster enthusiasm for a potential road version that's already been spotted undergoing testing. Previous GT4 racing conversions of the Cayman, like the one pictured above, were carried out by third-party racing constructors not recognized by the factory.
Porsche may not be the only one showing interest in the category, however. BMW is said to similarly be considering a GT4-spec version of its M235i Racing model to compete in the same class, taking the place of the defunct M3 GT4 as the Bavarian marque's entry-level customer racing car.
Porsche production will stay in Germany, says sales chief
Fri, May 29 2015At Porsche's recent opening of its new North American headquarters in Atlanta, we had a chance to chat with Bernhard Maier, the brand's head of sales and marketing. In our interview Maier opens up about Porsche's global growth, relationship with other Volkswagen Group products, and some of Porsche's future video. Read on for more. Autoblog: You're on a smooth trajectory of increasing sales in the US. Do you think there's an ultimate cap for Porsche in terms of volume? Bernhard Maier: If you look at the last couple of years, we have really seen a rapid growth in US, as we have seen in many other countries as well. Put that in perspective with our strategy for 2018. When we released that in early 2011, we said there are opportunities to grow for the brand in a number of ways. We are growing by entering new markets where we are not yet in, by taking part in the overall development of individual mobility, and in going in new segments where we are not yet in or that we were not yet in, such as the B SUV segment. And the Macan is, I think, a through-and-through success story. Let's take the US. Out of 1,000 inhabitants compare that with 700 cars on the marketplace. If we go to China, there are only 70 cars out of 1,000 inhabitants. So this is a huge potential, which we still have for the entire automotive industry and, again, we are in China now for 14 years. We started off in 2001, selling 226 cars. Last year, we did more than 27,000 units. With the economic recovery of the United States, we saw a tremendous comeback of the entire economy and also for the car industry. We took advantage of that as well in handling new segments like the Macan and in bringing more varieties in our already existing cars, so it gave us the opportunity to grow in America as well. AB: In terms of the portfolio, and speaking of Macan, are there other segments that Porsche will be expanding? Are any segments off limits? BM: We do have the number of ideas I can tell you, but we are not decided on what level [and] we are not talking about them. Let's look at our current model line-up. I think it's the most interesting one we've ever had in the history of the company. We do have a lot of derivatives in the 911 model lineup, we do have some derivatives in the Boxster and Cayman segment. There are some new ideas, which, as I've mentioned already, have not been decided yet. AB: Right. Is there any potential that we'd see something from the group MQB platform?
