This 1959 Porsche 356A/1600 Reutter Cabriolet has undergone a just completed concours level restoration with the help of the nation’s top Porsche experts and restorers, resulting in one of the most unique and desirable Porsche 356 Cabriolets in existence. Prior to its uncompromising restoration, this 1959 Porsche 356A/1600 Reutter Cabriolet had been in the care of the same family since 1974. They were excellent stewards of such a wholly unique piece of Porsche motoring history, and can be credited with caring for its absolutely solid and uncorrupted platform; without which this incredible restoration would have not had such original and immaculate beginnings. This 1959 Porsche 356A/1600 Reutter Cabriolet is finished in an incredibly rare and desirable combination of colors and interior materials, making it possibly the only one of its kind. The numbers matching engine, transmission, wheels, colors, and interior materials are all factory correct and beyond reproach. The care, expense, and time poured into this beautiful machine are unsurpassed.
To obtain the precisely correct hues, the factory Ivory and Ruby Red colors were mixed with help from John Wilhoit of Wilhoit Restorations; the same experts who worked their paint magic on Jerry Seinfeld’s Porsche 908. The upholstery was stitched to factory specifications by Tony Garcia at Autobahn Interiors of San Diego, perfectly duplicating the Red Leatherette with Corduroy Inserts; an almost unheard of combination to be specified in a Reutter Cabriolet. Porsche and motorsports just seem to go hand-in-hand. The brand has defined itself by its ability to compete on the track with the concept that racing bred better road cars. While we are used to seeing 911s speeding along circuits around the world, the rear-engine icon's success in rallying is somewhat less well known. The Porsche Museum aims to fix that by highlighting a 911 SC that competed in the 1978 East African Safari Rally. The 911 rally car definitely projects a '70s vibe. You wouldn't see too many racecars with a pink brush bar sliding through the stages these days, but it looks amazing. Its bank of spotlights and two, giant, hood-mounted horns definitely give away the car's purpose. Best of all, that fantastic Martini livery defines the looks of Porsche racers from this era. The 911 SC performed well in the East African Safari Rally, but some suspension damage meant that this particular one never raced again. It's been a part of the Porsche Museum ever since. Getting ready for its triumphant return to the premier racing class of Le Mans, Porsche has released a handful of images showing its new LMP1 racecar testing. Porsche hasn't run a car in the Prototype class at 24 Hours of Le Mans since 2009, but this racecar - still veiled in secrecy - will be expected to battle against the Audi and Toyota LMP1 Prototypes to help bring Porsche its 17th Le Mans victory. Aside from knowing that it will use a hybrid powertrain to meet LMP1 rules, there are no other details about the car... including its name or potential sponsors. In the meantime, Porsche has set up a microsite, called Mission 2014, to share its extensive history racing at Le Mans. Porsche has finally let released all of the details on the 918 Spyder, the German brand's challenger to the McLaren P1 and Ferrari LaFerrari, after months of leading our poor, performance-loving hearts on. The covers were lifted at the Volkswagen Group night, an enormous precursor to the Frankfurt Motor Show, and include a massive, 11,000-word press release that's attached at the bottom of this page. The 918 Spyder features a mid-mounted, dry-sump-lubricated, 4.6-liter V8 engine that generates 608 horsepower when left to its own devices. Combined with a trio of electric motors, which produce 286 hp, the total system horsepower for the 918 Spyder rests at 887 ponies. That's less than the McLaren P1 (903 hp) and the LaFerrari (949 hp), but the Porsche is also likely to be a bit cheaper, starting at $845,000, while the McLaren will be in the seven-figure range for certain, and it will more than likely be joined by the LaFezza. The 918 Spyder counters with a 2.8-second jog to 62, a 7.7-second run to 124 and it will hit 186 in 22 seconds.
