1957 Porsche Speedster 356 on 2040-cars
Las Vegas, Nevada, United States
Sub Model: SPEEDSTER
Model: 356
Year: 1957
The example offered is a fine testament to the original Classic Speedster build and quality. Lovingly maintained and sparingly used since built, this car has traveled less than 7,000 miles, and less than 500 miles since we have owned it. It is finished in beautiful black trimmed with red interior and gray carpeting with black honeycomb floor mats with grey trim. .
Porsche produced fewer than 3,000 356 Speedsters total. Originals are harder to find and their prices are soaring into six-figures.
The Classic Speedster come with a dual carb 'Super' engine tuned to about 1850cc (not documented, but as presented to me, and believable when driving). She may not be the prettiest looking motor but she is solid and dependable. The engine originated in a '73 Super Beetle. With the relative feather light curb weight (approx 1585 lbs) of this car, and additional HP, it simply flies. With the near 50/50 weight distribution (46/54 to be exact), the handling is incredible as well. The car was built on the (modified to spec) clean chassis of a 1967 Volkswagen, and is titled (clear Nevada title) as such. This keeps insurance rates incredibly reasonable!
Car was freshly painted on November 1st, 2012 in a Dupont chromabase 2 stage black, it was color sand and polished as you can see in photos. Interior was completely redone, new trunk carpet kit, new side mirror, rearview mirror, tail lights, bumpers, all coming from Vintage Speedster. Engine has been completely gone through by Meyers Volkswagen and Porsche, who has been locally servicing Porches since 1978. The only thing not working on the car is the odometer which as not worked since I purchased the car. I spoke to Hollywood Speedometers and was quoted $120.00 to fix it. Porsche was just fitted with all new Yokohama tires, size 185/60/15, new front disc brakes. All new bushings in the transmission, new clutch cable, new coil. Porsche does not have any windows or top.
Call 702-755-8180 for more information, to discuss, make an appointment to see the car in person, or make an offer on the car. I will consider any reasonable offers but please no low ballers. Car is also listed for sale locally so I reserve the right to end the auction anytime for outside sale. Likewise, if you are interested in a "Buy it Now" arrangement, I can add the element to the auction upon the agreement of the sale price. This offers both parties use of the eBay accountability system.
I encourage all potential buyers to come and inspect the car in person prior to buying. Feel free to call me with any questions. Car is sold AS IS, WHERE IS. Transportation is the responsibility of the buyer. Please only serious buyers. Finally fee free to call me at 702-755-8180 for any further questions.

What driving data is Android Auto collecting from us?
Mon, Oct 12 2015In-car solutions like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto make using your smartphone while driving increasingly easy, by replicating most of the gadget's functions on a vehicle's infotainment screen. In fact, they rank among the favorite automotive features available today by Autoblog editors. While there's certainly added convenience, Motor Trend claims Google is collecting a huge array of data during trips, as well. Although, that might not actually be the case. In a rundown of the upgrades for the newly refreshed Porsche 911, Motor Trend asserts that the iconic coupe doesn't have Android Auto because of alleged privacy concerns. Reportedly, Porsche elected to only include CarPlay because the Google tech collected info on a vehicle's speed and other data. The German company didn't want to share all of that vital info with another corporation. Google opposes the allegations, though. "We take privacy very seriously and do not collect the data the Motor Trend article claims such as throttle position, oil temp and coolant temp," the company said in a portion of a statement to TechCrunch. Android Auto does use a vehicle's GPS system for location info, and checks whether it's in Park or Drive to enable some features. Also, users must opt-in to sharing the first time that they connect their phone. There might be an explanation for this confusion, according to TechCrunch. Allegedly before Android Auto launched, Google did want more vehicle data, but the company eventually changed course. Porsche may have based its decision on this earlier version. This case just shines a light on the growing question of automotive privacy and Google's potential role. The government has been unhappy with how automakers have handled this responsibility, so far, though.
Car Club USA: Porsche Club of America Escape to Rushmore
Wed, Dec 16 2015The Porsche Club of America, whose motto is "it's not just the cars, it's the people," plans its annual Escape in a different city every year. This year's was particularly epic, as Porsche fans headed to the Black Hills of South Dakota for their gathering. The scenery and the history are part of the attraction, but the winding roads are the real headliner. "This road right here is the reason why we chose the Black Hills of South Dakota to do the 2015 Escape," said Ron Johnson of the Nord Stern Porsche Club as he navigated the mountain range. "These Porsches really love these twisty, curvy roads." That statement neatly sums up why the sports cars have resonated so deeply with their owners and enthusiasts for so long. In addition to the guided tours and drives around the winding terrain, the club hosts a car show. This year marks the club's 60th in the United States, and the Escape drew a wide range of Porsches of all vintages. Lloyd and Donna Nelson from Valley City, ND, arrived in their 1955 Porsche Speedster, which they purchased alongside a 1951 coupe in 1964 for a grand total of $750. Needless to say, it was a good investment – although they didn't know it at the time. "We had two children, one on the way, we were both working and I really didn't see the sense in two old cars," explained Donna. "I said, 'one of them has to go,'" to which Lloyd responded, "which one of the kids?" They sold the coupe long ago, but the speedster is still gorgeous and gets more than its fair share of stares and use. Will they win best of show? "This is what us as enthusiasts dream of," Johnson said. Watch the latest episode of Car Club USA to see how it turns out and for a snapshot of life at the Escape. Each Car Club USA episode features a different car club or event from across the US, where passionate owner communities gather to share automotive experiences and embark on incredible adventures. From Main Street cruises to off-road trails, catch all the latest car club activity on Autoblog.
Stunning vintage Porsche 911 collection profiled by eGarage
Sat, Aug 15 2015It's Pebble Beach time, so how appropriate that eGarage presents us a vid on one of the finest personal Porsche collections in the world. A former COO of drug maker GlaxoSmithKline, Robert Ingram amassed more then 50 Porsches that include a 1949 356 Gmund, a 1961 356B 1600 Carrera GTL Abarth Coupe, and a 1964 356C Carrera 2 Coupe. His collecting career didn't start well, Ingram saying he bought his first Porsche in 1959 sight unseen and it was a fiasco, the seller had lied about everything. Ingram said he still has the car, unrestored, and uses it to show people "what happens when you don't do your due diligence." Things have got much better. Ingram said he's committed to using his cars during his lifetime, so he called some friends for a weekend in Napa Valley to drive selections like his 1968 911L Rally Kit/Sport Kit II, a 1973 911 Carrera RS 2.7, a 1974 911 RS 3.0, and the first 1990 911 Carrera 4 Lightweight. As far as we can tell, they did not drive the Porsche tractor also in the collection. The collection is covered in a new book called Porsche Unexpected by veteran car writer Randy Leffingwell, with photography by Michael Furman, and it also examines the skill of collecting, with tips and mistakes shared by Ingram and other collectors. You can check out some of the cars and words from the party involved in the video above. News Source: eGarage via YouTube Porsche Coupe Luxury Performance Classics Videos egarage
